For more than 0,30 carat weight, they are provided with the certificate issued by a worldwide recognized laboratory which make authority all over the the world: The HRD and IGI of Antwerp and the GIA of New York. Creation and setting are made only by artists jewelers in Antwerp whose expertise goes back several generations. (The productions from Asian countries are totally excluded contrary to what some jewelers offer.) The customer can choose a diamond that will be set on a selected frame by him. He can also provide a photograph or a drawing of a jewel he wishes to achieve. The Club will provide him with a specific quote and, after agreement, will manufacturer the customized jewel by their artisans - jewelers on site in Antwerp.

5 Custom made manufacturing Each diamond jewel is first drafted with a pencil or designed with a computer using a 3D design software. The design is sent to a model maker who carves the setting into a block of wax. Today It is possible to carve the setting in wax thanks to a computer software. A rubber mould is made by pressing the wax model between two rubber plates. A groove is digged into the rubber with a special tool. The groove will enable to pour the wax into the closed mould in order to make other wax settings. Opposite is the wax model for our Sunflower ring. This technical is sufficiently accurate to create an imprint for the locations where the diamonds will be set for your future diamond alliance. The wax models are then stuck on to the wax tree. Very fine special plaster is poured over the wax tree, which is placed in a heat-resistant container. The whole is placed in a heat-resistant mould in order to melt the wax, which is runing out. This is why this technique is called the lost-wax technical. The plaster then contains the hollow The alloy is prepared by melting the gold and the other different metals in correct proportions. The molten metal is poured into the plaster mould and, after it has been cooled, the result is a metal tree holding the rings, settings and other parts of all the pieces on order. Now each stem of the metal tree holding a setting has just to be removed. The stem will be cut at the base of the setting and each part will then be polished before moving on to the next stage.. The settings that have been cut off the metal tree arrive in the mounting workshop. 6 Checking that the size of the ring matches the order Abrading any flaws caused during the casting Rubbing down the setting Positioning the setting Welding the setting onto the ring Filing down the welding defects In order to work safely and accurately, the setting is placed in a mandrel which is clamped into a vice. The diamond is placed in the setting. The claws are bent onto the diamond using an awl. The claws are polished until the surface is completely smooth. The diamond is set using binoculars. The setting is put in a vice and the diamond is placed into it. The ring is then polished using a felt disc with a coating that has varying degrees of abrasiveness. The ring is passed under a jet of water steam to remove any trace of grease before rhodium plating.

7 The 8 Quality Criteria We emphasize that the 4 criteria «4 C s» are not sufficient to characterize a diamond and it is of major importance to specify the gradations of the 4 other quality criteria which are, alas, too often ignored. While the beauty of an visual attraction to a precisely cut stone can vary from one person to another, the actual value is based on well defined international standards. Choosing a diamond jewel is always a magical moment Here s what you need to know so that it is not messed up. 1 CARAT (THE WEIGHT) - 1 CARAT EQUALS 0,2 GRAM The price per carat is the not the same regardless of the weight of the stone: i.e. that a 2 carat stone price is much higher than 2 stones of 1 carat each, 7 other criteria being the same. In other words, the higher the weight of a stone, the higher the price per carat is. 2 CLARITY Purity, or clarity, depends on the amount (or lack) of inclusions visible with the naked eye or with a magnifying glass. Clarity is a measure of internal defects of a diamond called inclusions. Inclusions may be crystals of a foreign material or another diamond crystal, or structural imperfections such as tiny cracks that can appear whitish or cloudy. The clarity is characterized as follows : IF = LC : Clear as examined under 10x magnification Loupe Clean (LC) No trace of inclusions VVS1 et VVS2 : Tiny inclusions, hardly visible with x 10 VS1 et VS2 : Very small inclusions, almost invisible SI1 et SI2 : Small inclusions, eventualy visible under 10x magnification P1, P2 et P3 included : Big inclusions/ numerous inclusions.

8 3 Color The most frequently found color of diamonds is white, actually free from color. The colorless diamond is the most popular. The diamonds reflect the light and break it into a rainbow of colors. This small reflection of color, or flash, has no effect on the technical evaluation of the color. Rare diamonds without a trace of color are graded D. This grade can vary from D to Z depending on the intensity of color, starting from absolutely free of color to light yellow, brown or grey. The color of a diamond is affected by chemical impurities and/or structural defects in the atomic structure of the carbon crystal. D - exceptionally white + E - exceptionally white F - extra white + G - extra white H - white I - J - white with slight trace of color K - L - slight hue M à Z - hue The grading of the diamond s color can only be executed on a single, unmounted stone. To determine the exact hue present in uncolored diamonds, a certified comparison diamond is used, which is presented by the GIA. The stones are examined in special white lighting. The stones used for comparison are chosen with the help of numerous criteria. In addition to these color shades, there is another color-related criterion: fluorescence (see point 8). 4 The shape The round brilliant cut diamond is by far the most popular and most researched diamond shape available today. For almost 100 years, diamond cutters have been using advanced theories of light behavior and precise mathematical calculations to optimize the fire and the brilliance in a round diamond. In addition to being the most popular and researched shape, a round diamond gives you more flexibility in terms of balancing cut, colour and clarity grades while round brilliant cut still getting the fire and brilliance you want. To maximize the brilliance of a traditional round diamond, select one in the two highest cut grades, like the symmetry which graduation has to be from Good to Excellent and the proportions and polish which graduations

9 5 Proportions Each diamond shape must meet specific characteristics of proportions between its different facets to reflect and diffract light optimally. 6 Symmetry Symmetry measures how well the facets match the other facets. A diamond cut with very good or excellent symmetry means that if you were to look at all the facets and compare to one another, they would look very uniform with very little variance.. This dosn t mean however the diamond is not cut too deep or too shallow. 7 Polish Polish is a measure of the surface finish. If a diamond is only «Fair» or «Average it does not allow maximum transmission of light though the facets, due to it s «rough» surface texture. Very Good or Excellent Polish by most lab standards is usually the top cut grade which is mostly preferred. Polish graded above Good is not detectible to the naked eye. 8 Degree of Fluorescence The majority of uncolored diamonds will glow when exposed by ultraviolet light: this phenomenon is called fluorescence which is not directly linked to the color of a diamond but shows the amount of absorption of UV light. Conclusion The higher is the rank of the stone in all of these categories, the greater is its value. Official certificates (issued by HRD, GIA or IGI), which must accompany each diamond, refer to these eight quality criteria. The certification of the diamonds is the best way to guarantee the purchaser the authenticity and quality of the diamond. Private Diamond Club of Antwrep only sells diamonds (loose or set on a jewel) with Color between D to H and in no case lower color gradations stones such as I - J - K... with clarity between IF or LC to SI2 and in case lower clarity gradations like P1,P2,or P3 whose proportions are «Excellent» or «Very good». whose symmetry is «Excellent» or «Very good» whose finish is «Excellent» or «Very good». whose Fluorescence is «Nil» or «Faint» If one of these criteria is average or bad the diamond is downgraded thus depreciated from 10 to 20%. If two criteria are average or bad the devaluation is twice as much as 20 to 40%.

10 Authenticity certificate The numbered authenticity certificate is the diamond s official identity card. Every gemstone is unique (not two pieces are alike) and responds to an unique combination of quality criteria (for diamonds, an unique combination of eight quality criteria). Whatever the origin of the diamond, the international quality standards are equal. The «identity card» belonging to a specific stone, cannot be interchanged with another. The certificate enables you to compare stones; For example to compare two diamonds of the same weight, but of different qualities. In the beginning only the large diamonds of superior quality were given a certificate. Because of increasing demand and the need of objective evaluation for the client, numbered certificates were handed out more and more starting from It is presented as a printed form, on which all the characteristics, based on the eight criteria of examination of the diamond are specified : form, colour, clarity, symmetry, proportions, finish or polish and the degree of fluorescence. The diamonds are presented in a sealed envelope on which the number of the identity certificate is mentioned. The certificates addressing to the quality of the stone are the result of thorough examination. The value of the diamond is based on the 8 criteria of quality, that give the possibility to judge the diamonds characteristics. A certificate does not automatically give value to the stone. A diamond evaluated by the same company selling it, makes the evaluation less objective. We advice you to avoid the «inhouse certificats». The certificate is only of value when the laboratory that has published it, is recognized worldwide by official organizations in the diamond industry. All precious stones over 0.30 carat offered by the Private Diamond Club are certified by one of the three best independent laboratories, recognized worldwide. The delay varies from a few days to several weeks. A laser inscription of the certificate number on the rondi or table of the gemstone is possible as well as some words, such as «I love you» or «my love for life». The cost of this registration is several hundred euros. This inscription is not visible to the naked eye but only to the binocular loupe magnifying 10 times.

12 Investment diamonds Rare diamonds of exceptional quality are a safe investment but certainly not a commodity for speculation. The term «investment diamond» does not explain a method that provides fast enrichment or loss of funds, which one would expect in the case of speculation on the financial market. The diamond is not a speculative product but a natural resource which might increase in value on a long term basis according to offer and demand volumes. When the stability of the economy is in danger, when we are facing a turbulent economic climate, the investors want to protect their investments from devaluation: Right now we are all experiencing this very confusing situation. Those who possess stocks, shares and bonds can loose all or a large portion of it. The people who have taken precautions by buying real estate, gold or diamonds are in a safer position. They also can take their diamonds easily to a different place and carry a part of their inheritance with them at all times. The Important characteristics of investment diamonds as a safe investment Two percent of the diamonds offered, because of their excellent quality, have a value that is insured and that keeps increasing in the long term. As much as 80% of the extracted diamonds (100 million carats = 20 tons) are useable in the industry and the other 20% (25 million carats = 5 tons ) are used for jewellery and investments. Only 5% of cut diamonds have a weight that is more than 1 carat. it is a secure investment since formed in millions of years, diamonds are inalterable.
