13 Pumps The ELEPUMP KF pump series is well known for its performance and easy maintenance, but is mostly selected for its outstanding durability. The KF-40 plunger pump model is best suited for clean water while the KF-50M piston pump model will perform best when there is mud, sediment, bentonite or cement in the water. 14 Water Treatment System Environmentally safe practices Are you struggling to find ways to reduce your water consumption? Water shortages, emphasis on environmentally safe practices, government restrictions and regulations all combine to increase pressure on drilling and mining companies to reduce and recycle the water. Until recently, water treatment systems were very large and expensive with limited efficiency and functionality. 15 Solutions for Mineral and Geotechnical Exploration Stuck in the Hole More Than One Way to Get Stuck Nothing is as discouraging as becoming stuck in the hole, yet it is not uncommon in drilling. Certain ground conditions can jam your equipment. Clay can swell enormously when water is introduced and this swelling can squeeze the rod and drill bit. Coming across sand can also be harmful as the sand can collapse around the equipment. On the other hand, the rod string can also break, either from too much pressure or by being dropped. As well, a bit that has overheated and fused to the rock will stop operations quickly. Whatever the case, it is preferable to try and retrieve what equipment you can rather than starting over drilling a new hole. Tools Can Help If you have dropped your rod or it broke in the hole, you can use recovery tools such as fishing tools, or casing cutters to retrieve the rod. If unsuccessful, wedges can be used to deviate from your original borehole. Some guidance in hole maintenance, and in optimizing water use and improving conditions can also be helpful. Our technical support team can visit a drill site and offer corrective solutions quickly so you are up and running as soon as possible. 15

16 Hole Deviation Dealing With a Deviated Hole Drill holes can be very unpredictable in the path that they take, so drillers often have to deal with hole deviation. Multiple factors can cause hole deviation, such as a change in rock formation, the type of bit used, the weight on the bit, the type of rods and tooling, the set-up of the drill rig and its location, among others. Prevent It or Correct It Fortunately, equipment and accessories such as wedges, specialized core barrels, reaming shell configurations are available to help prevent or correct hole deviation. 16 FORDIA.COM

17 Extending Bit Life A Great Way to Increase Productivity Getting the longest life possible for a drill bit is key if you want a productive and profitable drilling operation since changing a bit is counter productive, especially if it is farther down the hole. By learning how to choose the right matrix and the best waterway configuration, you can easily extend the life of your bit considerably.
