1 Rotary Leadership Institute, District 5060 North District Leadership Team Catherine Comben, RLI Trainer Catherine received her RLI Faculty Training in early 2010 and immediately joined the RLI Training Team She joined the Rotary Club of Kelowna in She has served as a club director since 2004 and has provided leadership as the club president in She is currently the president of the Pleasantvale Homes Society, a project of the Rotary Club of Kelowna since Catherine is very active as an advocate, volunteer and leader in many community organizations and beyond her community. She has been awarded numerous awards for her civic and voluntary services and leadership. She has attained a level of PHF+4 and is also a member of the Bequest Society of the Rotary Foundation. Following her early retirement from BCTel, (Telus) after more than 26 years, she has now pursued a new career in financial services, achieving her Mutual Funds license in 1999 and her Level 2 Life Insurance license in She is now a Branch Manager for Investia, part of the Industrial Alliance Group of Companies, and is also the President of CVC Financial Services Ltd. Sherry Gilroy, RLI Trainer Sherry received her RLI training in March, 2011 and her training as a RLI Trainer in the spring of She has been a member of Shuswap Rotary in Salmon Arm since 2009 and a member of the Tri-club Public Relations Committee. She assumed the role of President for her club for the Rotary year. Sherry is fairly new to the Shuswap Area arriving in 2008 after retiring from Education in In her former life, she spent her spare time working with Guiding and Scouting, both as a leader and a trainer. While working in the School System, and following her retirement, Sherry was a business partner and trainer in a First Aid and Supply company. She received many high honors and awards from Scouting and Guiding but really enjoyed her Wilderness First Aid Training courses where she loved bringing her outdoor experiences into the first aid aspect.

2 Bruce Falkins, RLI Trainer Bruce was one of the originally trained RLI facilitators in District 5060 back in Since then, he has facilitated in many of the RLI sessions held north of the border. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise since 1998 where he has provided leadership as a director on the executive for many years, and as the club s Centennial President in Bruce assumed the position of Assistant District Governor in January 2010 for Area 4 in District 5060, a position he held until June, He also serves as a Visioning Facilitator within the district. Bruce will be the District Governor for Bruce is a Paul Harris Fellow +9, and a member of the Paul Harris Society and the Bequest Society. Bruce received the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise Rotarian of the Year Award in , the Dale Frandsen Award in , and the Rotary Foundation District Service Award in Since 1997, Bruce has owned and operated his own Promotional Advertising business in Kelowna. Tony French, RLI Co-Coordinator and Trainer Tony has been part of the RLI faculty since 2008 when RLI was started in the District. He has served as registrar, venue and operation manager, and trainer. He has helped to expand the RLI course to most clubs in the north part of the District, and has arranged four faculty training courses. Currently, he is the RLI Co-Coordinator focusing on Areas 3, 4, 5. Tony has had broad experience as a Rotarian since 1995; he is presently a member of the Rotary Club of Kelowna. His Rotary experience includes club director in all avenues of service, club Secretary, President of the Rotary Club of Kelowna ( ), and project leader for Matching Grant projects in Belize and Ethiopia. Beyond his club, Tony led a successful polio fundraising campaign with the clubs in the Central Okanagan serving as the Coordinator of the Polio Fundraising Campaign from He also served as the Area 4 Rotary Foundation Coordinator ( ) and Assistant Governor for Area 4 ( ). He was a PETS trainer in 2013 and Tony has been awarded the Four Avenues of Service Citation (2000), the Rotary Foundation District Service Award (2005 and 2013), and the RI Significant Achievement Award (2011). Tony is a Rotary Foundation supporter as a PHF+4 donor, Benefactor and BEQ+2. Tony is a retired Chemical Engineer and was a senior executive in the Canadian forest industry.

3 Dennis Jacobsen, RLI Trainer Dennis finished his RLI training in the fall of 2009 and RLI Faculty training in early He was Registrar for the RLI program when it was offered in Penticton and presently serves webmaster to ensure the current registrar can register members, print name tags, etc. He joined the Penticton-Okanagan Rotary Club in 2005, primarily because he was asked by a business associate. He immediately became involved on the executive and provided publicity and website development for the club. He was also the president of the club during the 2009/2010 year. At the district level, Dennis serves on the District 5060 Website Committee, and has helped to organize the Polio 5060 Campaign in October Dennis is currently the Assistant Governor for Area 5 in D5060, starting in 2012/2013 as assistant to Doug Everett and is now in the second year, 2013/2014 as assistant to Darrell Blue. Dennis is also very involved with the Youth Exchange Committee as the Outbound Coordinator for Placements. He is also a member of the Paul Harris Society. His other day job is CEO of Windward Software Inc. which creates and sells software to over 35 countries from Penticton, with offices in the US, Philippines and Australia. Marie Kolenosky, RLI Trainer Marie shares that she made one of the best decisions in her life in 2004 when she became a Rotarian. I simply do not know a better way to positively impact my community and the world community, added Marie. Over the years as a member of the Rotary Club of Salmon Arm Daybreak, she has chaired the Community Service and Membership committees, and the RYLA and Lobster Fest committees. She is currently a member on the Club Service Committee. In , she had the pleasure of being her club s President. She is a PHF+1 donor (2012); and is pretty proud of this. As a March 2012 graduate of the RLI Trainer s program, she always looks forward to helping new and experienced Rotarians learn about our great organization. Through RLI, we will build ourselves and others as leaders; and we can positively affect first our own lives and then the lives of others, noted Marie. Marie is a Registered Nurse and Certified Nutritionist by profession. She points out that she is rather addicted to golf, watching hockey and curling and enjoying fast cars.

4 Derek Hall, RLI Trainer Derek Hall was born, raised and educated in British Columbia. His father was an RCMP officer, so the family endured frequent transfers to numerous towns and cities around the province. Following his graduation and a brief stint in the army, he began what would become a 30 year career in finance and banking that saw him posted to numerous locations around BC as well as a five year posting to South East Asia (Singapore, Malaysia & Hong Kong). While in Malaysia, he was General Manager of a joint venture finance company with branch offices in eleven Malaysian States and two offices in the Sultanate of Brunei. The last 10 years of Derek's banking career were as Manager of the Vernon BC Main Branch. After taking early retirement from the Bank, Derek joined the local Hospital Foundation as Executive Director where he served for nine years until retiring again, at age 58 in Derek has served as a City Councilor and has held directorships on numerous community organizations. In his retirement, he is Chair of the Employment Insurance Board of Referees, a member of the local Property Assessment Review Panel and a lay member of the College of Chiropractors of BC. Derek has been a Rotarian since 1990 (Vernon Club). He is a Paul Harris Fellow, two times Past President and was District Secretary in In 2011, he lead the GSE Team to Bangladesh and was appointed Assistant Governor for Area 3 in the Spring of He has a keen interest in philanthropy and international service. Derek accepted responsibilities as an RLI trainer following a trainer s workshop during the spring of Derek is married to Donna and has one Daughter Jessica who has just completed her Masters Degree in War Studies through the Royal Military College. Derek and Donna enjoy travel, gardening, history and community service. Sue Harvey, RLI Trainer Sue graduated from the RLI program in February of 2009 and then followed up with additional training in 2010 to enable her to qualify as a RLI trainer. Sue enjoyed a lengthy and rewarding career as an educator prior to becoming a Rotarian and member of the Penticton-Okanagan Rotary Club in Since joining the club, Sue has served the club as youth exchange counselor, Foundation director, president and secretary. Sue is also the Group Study Exchange coordinator for Area 5. She recently held a membership with the Planning Committee for the 2012 District 5060 Conference.

5 Marjolein Lloyd, RLI Trainer and Marketing Manager Marjolein participated in the district s RLI program offered in November of 2008, and then graduated from the RLI Training program in February of Beginning in 2012, Marjolein assumed the new position of Marketing Manager with the D5060 North RLI Training Team. Marjolein has been a member of the Rotary Club of Westbank since Over the past thirteen years, she has been the Rotary Youth Exchange Chair, Director of the Club Service Committee ( ), Director of Club Service Projects ( ), Club President ( ), and Club Administration Chair ( ). Marjolein was a key leader in the planning and funding of a major Rotary Spray Park for West Kelowna at a cost of over $260,000 which was completed in September Marjolein is currently the Regional Ambassador for ShelterBox Canada and serves as District Membership Committee Chair. Marjolein is the mother of 2 boys aged 10 and 13, is a piano teacher, and also works for a local magazine publisher. Vern Nielson, RLI Trainer Vern joined the District 5060 RLI Training Team in March of He has been very involved at his club level as a director since 2006, the founder of Rotary Ski to Tee, and the Rotary Air Show. He was president of the Rotary club of Kelowna in and assumed the role of Assistant Governor on July 01, Additionally, Vern has been serving as the Chair of the District 5060 Friendship Committee. During his year as President, the Rotary club of Kelowna won seven district awards for large clubs and a Significant Achievement Award from Rotary International. Outside of Rotary, he has won numerous awards for his involvement in both business and not for profit organizations including the Okanagan Science and Technology Community Leadership Award 2009, and the Fred Macklin Memorial award Kelowna s Man of the Year Vern has been a senior executive and entrepreneur in packaged goods, real estate, high tech and other industries. His experience spans roles at General Foods to being CEO of multiple successful ventures.

6 Carole Paradis, RLI Program Team Leader and Venue Facility Manager Carole has served as a Rotarian since 1992, when she became a member of the Rotary Club of Kelowna Morningside. While with the club, she served on all positions of the club s Executive, except as treasurer. This included assuming the role of club president in Carole s passion for Rotary has extended into the district where she has provided leadership as the District Chair ( ) and District Co-chair ( ) for the Rotary Youth Exchange Program, Events Coordinator for RYE ( ), District Secretary ( ), and member of the District 2005 Conference Planning Committee (Kelowna). She has hosted 17 youth exchange students from 15 different countries and has been the district s Youth Exchange Representative at two Rotary International Conventions, Salt Lake City in 2005 and New Orleans in Carole is married to Paul and is a PHF+1 donor. Carole graduated from the Rotary Leadership Institute program in April of 2011 and assumed responsibility as RLI Program Team Leader for Areas 4 and 5 of D5060, along with RLI Venue Facility Manager for Area 4 of the District. Jacqueline Whitecross, RLI Trainer Jacqueline has been a member of the Rotary Club of Merritt since December Since joining the club she has served as Social Director ( ) and as the club President ( ). Prior to joining the Merritt Club, Jacqueline was charter member of the Rotary Club of Delta, but shortly after became a member of the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunset. While with the Richmond Sunset club from , she held several directorships and was president in She chaired several successful fundraisers over her years with the Richmond club and was involved with the GSE teams. Jacqueline has two strong beliefs; there is no I in we and to give back to your community both locally and internationally is the only way to go. Jacqueline attained a RLI Facilitator Training Certificate in March of She is an avid supporter of the Foundation and is a PHF+2 donor. Jacqueline s chosen profession was interior design which she did for well over 20 years. She also taught interior design through continuing education in the lower mainland for three years. She is now looking to get back into the workforce in a different field.

7 Ron Hooper, RLI Trainer and Venue Facility Manager Ron participated in the RLI program in October 2011 and attained his RLI Trainer s Certificate in March of He has become a strong advocate for the RLI program and its importance in building the capacity of Rotarians. Ron continues to serve as Venue Facility Manager for RLI programs held in Salmon Arm. Ron is a member of the Rotary Club of Salmon Arm Daybreak, having joined in He is currently Club President.. Ron is a past President of the Rotary Club of Jasper. Ron has enjoyed a fulfilling career with Parks Canada, having served as Superintendent of Jasper, Pacific Rim and Gwaii Haanas National Parks. He is currently involved in planning alpine ski areas. Al Strachan, RLI FacultyTrainer Al s interest in facilitating learning for Rotarians was extended when he took an interest in serving as a trainer with the Rotary Leadership Institute. He attained his RLI Training Certificate in 2008 and provided instruction at all of the Institutes offered by the District 5060 North RLI Trainers. Al has been a Rotarian since 1989, first with the Rotary Club of Nelson in District 5080 where he served as club president in While in District 5080, Al was the co-chair of the 2002 District Conference and he provided instruction at the 2004 Pacific NWPETS training session in Seattle. Upon joining the Rotary Club of Kelowna in 2005, Al continued providing club leadership by serving as a director for four years ( ) and by chairing the Fundraising Committee ( ) and the Membership Committee ( ). Al has been involved in Area 4 leadership as the Area 4 and 5 Public Relations Representative on the District 5060 Public Relations Committee. He also continued to serve as a facilitator at Pacific NWPETS in Seattle in 2011 and Al s leadership and commitment was recognized in 2009 when he was awarded the club s Hass Houssain Memorial Service Award for outstanding service, commitment and dedication to Rotary.

8 Barb Penner, RLI Trainer Barb attained her certificate as a RLI Faculty member during a RLI trainer s program in February of She has been a Rotarian since 2004 when she was inducted into the membership of the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise. She has served as a director of the club for four years ( , and ), and as chair of the World Community Service Chair for 5 years. She assumed the position of President of the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise for the Rotary Year. Barb has visited Rotary projects in Ethiopia and has a keen interest in bringing Micro Credit to the area of Debra Birhan and Aliyu Amba. Barb has attained a level of PHF+7 and is a member of the Paul Harris Society. Prior to her retirement in early 2013, Barb worked for Community Living BC, where she focused on program and policy development. Her most recent work had been related to increasing employment opportunities for people with a developmental disability. Isabel Reinertson, RLI Trainer Isabel joined the District 5060 RLI Facilitating Team in March of 2012 after completing the facilitation training. She has been a member of the Rotary Club of Salmon Arm since 2000, serving as club director for two years and as the president for two terms. At the district level, she serves as the Assistant Governor for Area She is a District 5060 facilitator for Club Visioning and is a PHF+1 donor. Isabel has served as a volunteer on several national equestrian organizations, most recently as Chair of Para-Equestrian Canada, from which she received a special recognition award. She is a Dressage judge and competitor, but most of Isabel's community volunteerism has been accomplished through her Rotary club. She is a retired teacher following a 33-year career spanning grades 2 to 12, plus special training in counseling and librarianship in three British Columbia school districts.

9 Barry Reid, RLI Registrar Barry completed the Rotary Leadership Institute course in Penticton in 2011 and joined the RLI team in 2012 as the D5060 RLI Registrar. He is an active member of the Rotary Club of Penticton Okanagan, joining in 2007 after his daughter was selected to participate in the Rotary International Student Exchange. Barry has held several club positions including club President ( ). Barry enjoyed a thirty-four year career in the parks, recreation, and tourism industry with the cities of Maple Ridge and Penticton. Since retiring in 2009, he has provided consulting services as a Senior Associate with PERC (Professional Environmental Recreation Consultants) and as an independent contractor. Arjun Singh, RLI Trainer and Program Team Leader Arjun joined the Rotary Club of Kamloops in He is a third generation Rotarian and has served his club as club Secretary and Public Relations Director. Arjun graduated from the Rotary Leadership Institute program during the fall of 2011 and then followed up with participation in a RLI Training Workshop which enabled him to then assume the role of a RLI Trainer in District Arjun also volunteered to serve as the Program Team Leader for Areas 1-3 of the district. Arjun works as a property manager and currently serves on Kamloops City Council. He has a MA in Professional Communication and a Certificate in Dialogue, Deliberation, and Public Engagement Monty Hughes, RLI Trainer (Bio unavailable at this time)

10 Kent Wong, RLI Trainer and Venue Facility Manager Kent graduated from the Rotary Leadership Institute program during the fall of 2011 and then received RLI Training in 2012 to enable him to become part of the Training Team. Kent also accepted the role of Venue Facility Manager for the RLI programs being held in Kamloops. He joined the Rotary Club of Kamloops Daybreak in 1997 with the classification of Photographer and immediately became and still is the Club's Historian. Serving on the Club's Board as International Director for a few years and the Rotary Foundation Committee in 2005, he became Daybreak's 25th president in He was also the Club's Sergeant-at-Arms for a few years. He is a Paul Harris Fellow +3 donor. Kent is active in the community as a long-time member of the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce (since 1985 serving as its Goodwill Ambassador) and member of the Canadian Home Builders Association-Central Interior Branch (2007). He was chair of the Kamloops Heritage Commission for nine years and sat on the Board of Directors for two years on the provincial BC Heritage Trust. He is a past president of the Professional Photographers of Canada, BC Region, and currently sits on that Board as the Salon Liaison Portfolio Chair. He is also the 2013 Professional Photographers of Canada's National Exhibition Committee Chair. Kent owns and operates Kent Wong Photography in Kamloops, a successful commercial/portrait studio. He travels across Canada instructing other professional photographers on sales and marketing and can be found teaching all aspects of photography in BC to amateurs and fellow pros alike. He also teaches ballroom dancing and promotes a healthier way to cook and eat through the use of Saladmaster cookware. Kent has his B.Sc. in Vertebrate Physiology and Neuropsychology from UVic. and his Master of Photographic Arts in the Professional Photographers of Canada. He is a Fellow of the Professional Photographers of Canada, BC Region. In 2012 he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. He enjoys cooking, music, reading fiction, tennis, badminton, kayaking, ballroom dancing and being involved with people. Ian Esson, RLI Trainer (Bio unavailable at this time)

11 Peter Schwirtz, RLI Trainer Peter completed his RLI faculty training in the spring of He joined the Rotary Club of Kamloops in 2000 and served in all capacities on the club executive. He was president for the club during the 2009/2010 year. Peter has been very active in the Kamloops community by volunteering his time and expertise for several community organizations. His career focus for over 35 years has been in the areas of accounting and tax, insurance and wealth management. He is a Certified Financial Planner, Peter Schultz, RLI Trainer Peter completed the RLI course in 2012, and joined the RLI Training Team in He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Kelowna since 2009, serving immediately on the executive and as Club President in In the 1990 s, Peter was also a member of the Ogopogo Rotary Club of Kelowna for 3 years. He is a multiple Paul Harris fellow, and member of both the Paul Harris Society and the Bequest Society of Rotary International. Peter s career included many years as a Professor of Physics at the University of Western Ontario, specializing in Solid State and Nuclear Physics. Subsequent to those years Peter & his wife Susan developed and ran a restaurant and later a pub business in Kelowna.

12 Ed Kolybaba, RLI Co-Coordinator and Trainer Ed has been involved with Rotary since 1995, first with the RC/Weyburn in District 5550 as a director and vice-president, then with the RC/Westbank in District 5060 from , and now with the RC of Kelowna Sunrise. While with the Westbank club, Ed served as a director for 7 years ( ) and ( ) chairing all of the service committees of the club at one time or the other, and as the Centennial Club President ( ). He also edited and published the District Award winning club newsletter, the Westbank Rotary Times ( ) and served as the club s webmaster ( ). Ed assumed responsibility as the planner and primary contact with the club s humanitarian projects in India and Ethiopia. Although his tenure with the RC/Kelowna Sunrise has been short, Ed has taken on the responsibility of club webmaster and as a member of the Foundation and International Service Committees. At the Area 4 level, Ed has served on the Ambassadorial Scholarship, Rotary Centennial and the Group Study Exchange Committees and has assisted with Area Rotary Foundation events and firesides. Ed has taken on more responsibility at the district level and beyond by serving as a coordinator and trainer with the RLI program since 2008, as member of the District Grants Sub-Committee, first as a member ( ) and then as the chair ( ), and as a District Humanitarian Competitive Grant Planning Team Member (Ethiopia). Ed served as an instructor for the Pacific NWPETS training in Seattle in 2011 and again in In 2012, Ed provided leadership as the GSE Team Leader to District 4600 in Brazil. Ed has received the Rotary Club of Westbank s Rotarian of the Year Award in , , and , The Rotary Foundation District Service Award ( ) and an Honorary Merit Award from the RC of Volta Redonda, District 4600 in Brazil (2012). He has attained a PHF+3, is a TRF benefactor and a member of the Bequest Society. Ed retired in 1999 from senior education administration in the role of Director of Education in Saskatchewan, and a second time in 2010 from part time work as a Faculty Advisor with the Faculty of Education of the University of British Columbia Okanagan.
