5 TIPLA CONFERENCE FACULTY Jonathan Berschadsky s practice focuses on patent prosecution and litigation, freedom to operate analysis, U.S. and international strategic patent portfolio planning and management, as well as counseling clients on strategic partnerships and technology acquisitions. Technology areas he works in include telecommunications, electronics, imaging, machine learning, audio signal processing and media content transmission and delivery systems. Jonathan received his JD from Rutgers University School of Law and both his MS and BS in Electrical Engineering from Boston University. Colin Cahoon focuses his patent law practice in the energy, telecommunications, aviation, manufacturing, food processing, and chemical technology industries. He counsels clients in licensing, technology-related transactional work, corporate mergers, and intellectual property evaluations and negotiations and has extensive experience in providing intellectual property legal support to in-house corporate counsel in a variety of manufacturing fields. Colin received his JD cum laude from Southern Methodist University School of Law and his BS in Chemical Engineering from New Mexico State University. Aaron Chaloner, Ph.D. focuses his practice on intellectual property law, including all stages of intellectual property litigation, as well as counseling clients on copyright, trademark, patent and trade secret concerns. His specific focus includes patent prosecution for life science and biotechnology. Aaron received his JD from Oklahoma City University School of Law, his Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and his BS in Biology and Neuroscience from Baylor University. Kevin Christopher is the principal of Ridgeline Venture Law, founded as Tennessee s first B Corp law firm and a 2018 Best for the World Honoree. Prior to founding Ridgeline, Kevin spent 10 years in the San Francisco Bay Area working within startups, and in the commercialization of biotech and energy technologies from UC Berkeley and Lawrence Berkeley and Lawrence Livermore National Labs. Kevin is an entrepreneur, county commissioner for Putnam County, and board member to various environmental and social impact nonprofits. Matt Cox is a registered patent attorney who represents clients in many areas of IP law, including patent preparation and prosecution, trademark prosecution, patent and trademark litigation, patent diligence for corporate transactions, patent opinion work, and licensing. Matt s patent practice focuses on mechanical and electro-mechanical systems including medical devices, sporting goods, automotive equipment, manufacturing, microfluidic devices, materials science, and aerospace applications. He received his JD from the University of Tennessee College of Law and both his MS and BE in Mechanical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. Jean-Charles Grégoire is a partner at Marks & Clerk in Canada. JC specializes in securing patent and industrial design protection for various technologies, including high tech, mechanical, and consumer products. He has been active in preparing for upcoming legislative amendments, participating in technical reviews of draft Patent Rules and Industrial Design Regulations with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, and speaking before members of the Law Society of Ontario and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC). He serves on IPIC s Joint Liaison Patent Practice Committee and Industrial Design Committee and on AIPPI s Canadian Standing Committee on Patents and Committee on Copyright/Industrial Design. Marshall Honeyman focuses on advising high-technology clients in the area of patent prosecution. Prior to joining Erise, his experience as an intellectual property attorney includes serving as a firm partner as well as working in the USPTO as a patent examiner and then as an Associate Solicitor. Marshall s background also includes serving as an Assistant District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District in Wichita, Kansas, where he litigated a wide range of felony criminal cases. In private practice, his experience has included licensing and technology transfer patents. He received his JD from Washburn University and his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University. Tom Kulik is a Partner in Scheef & Stone, LLP and is a member of the firm s Intellectual Property and Cybersecurity Practice Groups out of its headquarters in Dallas, Texas, he is recognized by his peers as among the Best Lawyers practicing intellectual property in Dallas by D Magazine. His practice spans the drafting and negotiation of IP/IT transactions, social media/branding, cybersecurity, data privacy and IP/technology litigation. His practice also includes an extensive trademark preparation and prosecution practice, including both domestic and foreign trademark protection. Tom is a weekly IP columnist for AboveTheLaw.com, where he writes on trending topics in IP law. Mr. Kulik received his J.D. from Pace University School of Law School and his B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College. Ryan Levy focuses on intellectual property litigation with an emphasis on patent litigation. He has represented international and domestic companies as both plaintiff and defendant in matters involving chemical formulations and related properties; large-scale industrial equipment; processes for roadway design; automotive equipment; and various software ranging from web-based protocols to automated detection systems. Ryan has litigated patent disputes in various U.S. district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He received his JD from Duke University School of Law and a BS in both Biochemistry and Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University. Gary Montle has been with Patterson Intellectual Property Law since His practice focuses on the procurement and enforcement of intellectual property rights. He regularly advises clients in both corporate and individual capacities throughout each stage of patent, trademark and copyright issues, including strategic portfolio development, scope of protection, licensing and enforcement. Gary has an Electrical Engineering degree and served as an intern with the WIPO in Switzerland before graduating from Vanderbilt University Law School. Loren E. Mulraine focuses his practice on entertainment law, intellectual property, and business and corporate law. His clients have included Grammy, Dove, and Stellar award winners, gold, platinum and multi-platinum selling artists, producers and songwriters, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, and management companies. He is also a professor and Director of Music and Entertainment Law Studies at Belmont University College of Law, where he teaches courses in Copyright Law, Entertainment Law, Media Law, Intellectual Property Law, and Sports Law. Loren received his JD from Howard University School of Law and his BA in Radio, Television and Film from the University of Maryland. Jacob Neu is a patent attorney in Bradley Arant s Nashville office. He has wide experience in patent and trademark prosecution, technology transactions, and patent litigation. He received his BA in Mechanical Engineering at Rice University and JD at Vanderbilt University Law School. Seth Ogden, Ph.D. joined Patterson Intellectual Property Law in After earning a Biology degree at the University of Virginia, he earned his Ph.D. in Cancer Biology at Vanderbilt then his JD at American University Washington College of Law. Seth has experience in patent infringement litigation and patent prosecution in the fields of biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, industrial chemicals, software and electronic devices. Seth has also provided non-infringement and invalidity opinions and strategic positioning reports in the areas of biotechnology (diagnostics and biologics), pharmaceuticals, industrial chemicals and material science. Seth s practice also includes advising clients on protecting their know-how through both state and federal trade secret regimes Kathy Scourby is the Principal of KNS Consulting, LLC and is a certified Business Continuity Professional. She works with professional service firms to achieve their goals in the areas of business continuity, disaster preparedness, risk management and compliance. Kathy trains management professionals and all levels of staff at private service firms and facilitates table-top exercises in these focus areas. She has a Master s degree in Business. Her Business Continuity certification is from the Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI). Raymond Stephens is a patent attorney with the law firm of Pitts & Lake, PC, and currently practices primarily in the areas of intellectual property litigation and patent and trademark procurement. Ray earned a BS in Animal Science from the University of Tennessee, his JD from the University of Tennessee College of Law and his Masters of Church Music Degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Phillip Walker focuses his practice on intellectual property counseling, including the procurement and enforcement of patents, trademarks, and copyrights. He counsels his clients on the economic benefits and implications of intellectual property protection and litigation. Phil advises his clients in the evaluation and protection of complex technologies, including inventions in the mechanical, medical, telecommunications, optical, materials, chemical, computer software and Internet business arts. He received his JD from University of Kentucky College of Law, his Graduate Diploma from Victoria University of Technology (Melbourne, Australia) and his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky.
