1 VIGO COUNTY SCHOOL CORPORATION BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES MEETING ADMINISTRATION BUILDING, 686 WABASH AVENUE MONDAY, AUGUST 27, 2012 M I N U T E S A meeting of the Board of School Trustees of the Vigo County School Corporation was held at the Vigo County School Corporation Administration Building, 686 Wabash Avenue, Terre Haute, Indiana on Monday, August 27, The following Board Members were in attendance: Ms. Alpa Patel, Mr. Mel Burks, Mr. Tom Thomas, Mrs. Jackie Lower, Mrs. Tammy Pearson, Mr. Patrick Sheehan, and Mr. Paul Lockhart 1. Driver Education Program Jeff Clutter Spotlights Three area automobile dealerships were recognized for donating cars for use by our students in the Driver Education Program. The following gentlemen were recognized: Mr. Bill Lutes of Terre Haute Chevrolet, Mr. Robert Thompson of Thompson s Honda, and Mr. Michael Tom of Vigo Dodge. 2. Parent Recognition -- Christi Fenton and Stacy Mason As part of Parents as Partners for Education Week, parent representatives from each of our twenty-eight schools were recognized for the additional support they provide. No comments were received. First Call for Citizen Comments Consent Agenda Mr. Burks moved for approval of the Consent Agenda. Ms. Patel seconded the motion. The motion passed. The following Consent Agenda items were approved: a. Minutes Regular Meeting - August 13, 2012 b. Stipend Authorizations c. Financial Report for the Month Ending July 31, 2012

2 d. Encumbrance Report for Period Ending July 31, 2012 e. Accounts Payable Docket for August f. Permission to Purchase Equipment from Extra Curricular Account g. Professional Leave Requests h. In-Service Committee Activities i. Gift Vigo County School Corporation High Schools from Indiana State University s Department of Chemistry and Physics Six Horizontal Gel Electrophoresis Apparatus Units and Supplies. New Business Personnel Report Mr. Newport presented the Personnel Report for approval. Ms. Patel moved for approval. Mr. Sheehan seconded the motion. The motion passed. RISE Evaluation and Development System Mr. Newport reviewed the RISE Evaluation and Development System and responded to questions. This Program was previously presented to the Board at the August 13, 2012 Board meeting. Mr. Burks moved approval of the RISE Evaluation and Development System. Mrs. Lower seconded the motion. The motion passed. Memorandum of Understanding Unlocking the Spectrum, LLC Mr. Jeff Blake of Covered Bridge Special Education District explained that Unlocking the Spectrum (UTS) is a firm that specializes in helping children with autism reach their maximum potential, with a mission of making applied behavior analysis therapy accessible to children throughout Indiana. The services include therapy, consultation, family training and other specialized services. Students receive these services in their home settings as well as in school settings with one-to-one therapist. Mrs. Pearson moved for approval. Mr. Thomas seconded the motion. The motion passed.

3 Comments/Correspondence/Information Information The FUSION Program is part of the Community School of Arts, and will be offered this fall on an afterschool basis and free of charge to West Vigo Middle School students. Second Call for Citizen Comments Comments were received from Amanda Childress, Kay Ponsot, George Richardson, and Charlene Robinson. Mr. Lockhart thanked the citizens for their remarks and interest. Committee Reports/Information and Proposals from Board Members and Superintendent Tanoos Mrs. Lower said her grandson started Woodrow Wilson Middle Schoolnd noted there is a lot of opportunity for students and parents to get involved. Mrs. Pearson commended administration on doing a great job with the transition of students from Chauncey Rose to Otter Creek and Woodrow Wilson. Mr. Lockhart commended Mr. Tanoos and the Principals of Otter Creek and Woodrow Wilson for making the transition a success. Mr. Tanoos thanked the Board for their support, and said everyone is ready for another successful school year. Approved: Adjournment: 6:47 P.M. President Vice Pres. Secretary Dep. Secy.
