2 Preface The Indian economy is considered as one of the fastest growing economies in the world, sixth largest measured by GDP and 3rd largest measured by PPP. This growth is facilitated due to its growing young population, low dependency rate, healthy savings, investment rates, etc. The Indian economy is currently the bright spot for investment in the global landscape. The BFSI sector in India is considered as the strongest and currently valued at INR. 81 trillion and is likely to become fifth largest in the world by year 2020 and third largest by year Despite of the bright side the sector also faces a plethora of challenges. One of the biggest challenge is of demand, supply and services which are not reaching to the certain fraction of the population in the rural, who do not have access to banking which in turn is hindering the growth of BFSI sector majorly. The sector is currently manoeuvring its strategy and is trying to reach masses with the help of technology so that consumer are benefited. However, ATM s, use of mobile banking is seen as transparency and faster delivery modules to the customers. Recently with the Banking Laws amendment bill which was passed in parliament is likely to change the overall BFSI sector and since RBI is issuing new license to newcomers in banking zone, more banks will be opening shortly and hopefully each bank will open 5000 vacancies. With this, the Indian economy is likely to get a steady growth trajectory with reforms coming in future. The Future of the BFSI Sector The Indian Government intends to make cash handling more expensive and digital transaction extremely cheap. This move is to decrease the consumer s dependency on cash and promote use of digital transactions makes it imperative for the BFSI Industry to leverage technology to its best. Recently, Kakuturivaripalem, a small village In Andhra Pradesh has set an example for the entire country. This village has gone completely cashless and has proved that India can achieve its dream of a cashless economy if the people, government and the banks work together. The Economic Times The Indian BFSI sector has witnessed a drastic change the last few months, Demonetization and the vision of a digital economy made it imperative for the BFSI sector to go the extra mile. The BFSI sector needs to evolve at a rapid pace and hence it is important for the industry to share success strategies, learn from one another and work together to make the India a leader in BFSI.
