They graduated from Marion High School, Wayne in 1982 and Kim in The Seybolds started skating on roller skates in Marion in the early 1970s. They gradually transitioned to figure skating and eventually moved to Delaware to train under Ron Ludington. Wayne credits Ludington and other coaches with not only helping him to become a world-class athlete, but also instilling leadership skills. Wayne and Kim are both very special individuals who exemplified true amateur sportsmanship and dedication as they represented not only the state of Indiana, but the United States of America at the 1988 Winter Olympics in the pairs figure skating competition. Wayne and Kim won a pair of silver medals at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and came in 10th at the 1988 Winter Olympics. After the 1988 Olympics, the Seybolds performed professionally for several years and were featured performers in numerous shows such as Ice Capades, Champions On Ice, and The Nutcracker On Ice. Wayne became involved in the production side of ice shows, settling at that time in Los Angeles. After moving back to Marion to raise his family with his wife, Jennifer, he decided to run for City Council and took office in In 2003 he decided to run for mayor, and decided to rollerblade every street in Marion, an endeavor that added up to more than 250 miles. He skated past every person s house in Marion and would skate right up to an individual s house and ask them what their issues were. Wayne was elected mayor in 2003 and won reelection in Mayor Seybold has been president of the Metropolitan Mayor s Association and the Indiana Mayor s Association; Legislative Committee member and Executive Committee member of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns; Community and Economic Development Committee member, National League of Cities; First Tier Suburbs Committee member, National League of Cities; and on the Board of the Indiana

Elizabeth Hahn, director, stated: We wanted Kim to be a torchbearer because she s so inspirational not just because she competed in the Olympics, but because Kim came back from such a serious medical challenge to skate again, then serve as a role model by coaching young kids.
