1 Alston & Bird Opens Silicon Valley Office Welcomes Twelve IP Litigators We are pleased to announce the opening of Alston & Bird s Silicon Valley office, an expansion that not only solidifies Alston & Bird s position as a national intellectual property practice, but also demonstrates the firm s commitment to the continued growth of this valued area of our legal services. The members of our new Silicon Valley office, including three partners (Yitai Hu, Sean DeBruine and Steve Hemminger) have extensive experience in IP litigation. Formerly with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP in Palo Alto, our Silicon Valley team primarily represents international clients involved in a variety of technology-related businesses, including information technology, computer software, Internet infrastructure and electronics. They have successfully handled complex patent and technology litigation and licensing transactions involving U.S. companies, as well as those in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. With these new members, the Intellectual Property Practice at Alston & Bird now numbers over 160 professionals, with over 120 attorneys registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Alston & Bird will continue to offer the full-service, coast-to-coast intellectual property expertise that best serves our clients in the marketplace. Partners Intellectual Property Advisory August 19, 2008 Sean P. DeBruine is a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. He has represented clients in patent, copyright and trade secret disputes involving a variety of technologies, including microprocessor, memory and communications semiconductor devices, computer software, Internet infrastructure and business methods, personal computer system design, and disk drive electronic and mechanical designs. He has also handled a number of general commercial and contract disputes. Mr. DeBruine has appeared at trials in a number of U.S. District Courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission and the Court of International Trade, and in appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. DeBruine received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the California bar, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 9th and Federal Circuits. 2 Steven Hemminger is a partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. His practice emphasis is on litigating intellectual property disputes involving high technology both nationally and internationally. He has extensive experience in the litigation of patent, trademark and trade secret cases, as well as managing small and large patent and trademark portfolios in various technology sectors. Mr. Hemminger also has extensive experience related to infringement and validity analysis for prospective litigation. Mr. Hemminger received his degree in mechanical engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated magna cum laude from the Southwestern University School of Law. He a member of the California bar, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Hemminger has taught seminars at Princeton University and volunteered time as an arbitrator. Yitai Hu is a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. Mr. Hu focuses his practice on international intellectual property litigation and client counseling. He has represented clients in litigation involving a wide range of intellectual property issues and technical disciplines, and has served as lead counsel on cases concerning patent, trade secret and licensing disputes. Internationally Yitai has been involved in cases involving intellectual property theft and misappropriation matters, particularly in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China. In addition to his litigation practice Mr. Hu is experienced in negotiating complex international patent and technology license agreements, as well as mergers and acquisitions involving technology companies in his counseling practice. Mr. Hu is a graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in physics, and a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law. He is registered to practice in California, the District of Columbia, Maryland, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Hu is also a registered foreign attorney in Taiwan. In 2008, Mr. Hu was named one of the Top 50 Under 45 IP practitioners by IP Law & Business. Counsel S.H. Michael Kim is counsel in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. His practice focuses primarily on patent litigation before U.S. District Courts and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) in Section 337 proceedings. He has extensive experience in preparation of Markman hearings, patent matters dealing with sophisticated technologies, and preparing and prosecuting numerous patent applications. Mr. Kim has also counseled clients regarding domestic and foreign patent portfolios and provided opinions on patentability, validity, and non-infringement. Mr. Kim is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and a graduate of American University, Washington College of Law. He is registered to practice in California, the District of Columbia, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. 2

3 Elizabeth Rader serves as counsel in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Her practice emphasis is on intellectual property litigation in the multiple U.S. district courts and courts of appeal. Ms. Rader has experience representing prominent technology companies in patent litigation in diverse technical areas, and counseling clients on intellectual property and Internet law issues. In addition to her litigation practice, Ms. Rader is knowledgeable about open source licensing. Ms. Rader is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College and the University of Minnesota Law School. She is admitted to practice in California, New York, and the District of Columbia. Ms. Rader has also served as a fellow in the Center for Internet & Society at Stanford Law School, where she worked on landmark copyright and First Amendment cases. Associates Richard Chae is an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. His practice concentrates on intellectual property and litigation matters. His experience includes patent litigation, patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling. Mr. Chae is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in electrical science and engineering and a graduate of the Boston University School of Law. He is registered to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Hsin-Yi C. Cindy Feng is an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Her experience includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications relating to a variety of technical areas including medical devices, chemical, mechanical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology. Ms. Feng received her degree in molecular biology and genetics from the University of California at Berkeley and graduated from the university s School of Law (Boalt Hall). She is registered to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Lenny Huang s practice focuses on intellectual property matters. His experience includes litigation, mediations, motions practice, depositions and written discovery, as well as patent disputes involving a variety of technologies. Mr. Huang is a graduate of New York University and a graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of Law. In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Huang has counseled clients in the negotiation of patent and technology license agreements, and on the protection and enforcement of trademark rights against pirated trademarked products. 3

4 Larry Johnson is an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. His practice focuses primarily on intellectual property and litigation matters, specifically in the area of patents. He has had experience handling complex patent prosecution involving a variety of technologies as well as patent prosecution, intellectual property counseling, litigation support, and pre and post trial support. Mr. Johnson received his B.S. in electrical engineering from San Diego State University and is a graduate of the California Western School of Law. He is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Johnson has over six years of professional engineering experience. Hsin-Hsin Ginger Liu is an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Her practice focuses on patent litigation, patent prosecution and intellectual property counseling, and she has experience in intellectual property matters involving a variety of technologies, including those in the electrical and mechanical arts. Ms. Liu received her B.S. in electrical engineering from the National Chiao-Tung University and is a graduate of the Franklin Pierce Law Center. She is admitted to practice in California, New York, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Veronica Weinstein is an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Ms. Weinstein has experience with patent portfolios involving a variety of technologies, and focuses on U.S. and international patent prosecution. Ms. Weinstein received her B.Sc. in applied mathematics in 1992 from the Moscow State Academy of Oil and Gas, and her J.D. in 2002 from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
