One year a er moving to Boston she received the Boston Founda on s Change Maker award and in 2013 she received the Bostonian Of The Year Award. This award is given to Bostonians who impact their community in a remarkable way. An avid runner, Natalie s philosophy for success is. You Run Towards. This philosophy was never more apparent than on April 15th She had just run 26 miles and was about to finish the Boston marathon when the bombs detonated at the finish line. He has combined his educa on and experiences into a prac cal and common sense series of presenta ons rela ng to the successful management of the Social Aspects of Business. For over twenty five years as a professional speaker, his appearances at conferences and business engagements have earned him a reputa on for useful and relevant material combined with humor that makes learning enjoyable. Dr. Susan Herbst Dr. Herbst is the 15 th President of the University of Connec cut. Since taking the office in 2010, she has led mul ple ini a ves to strengthen teaching, research, and service at the University. Chief among them is her four year plan to hire 300 new tenured or tenure track faculty members at UConn above and beyond filling vacancies to significantly enhance course offerings and the University s research capability. President Herbst has also led the implementa on of two recent major state investments in UConn: Next Genera on Connec cut, a more than $1.5 billion endeavor that will expand educa onal opportuni es, research, and innova on in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines at UConn over the next decade, as well as add new faculty in the humani es; and Bioscience Connec cut, an $864 million ini a ve that is revitalizing the UConn Health enterprise, expanding enrollment in the medical and dental classes, building new business incubators, crea ng centers of excellence with neighboring ins tu ons, and more. Dr. Herbst is a scholar of public opinion, media, and American poli cs, and is author of four books and many ar cles in these areas. Dr. Natalie Stavas Dr. Stavas is a physician at Boston Children s Hospital and an instructor in pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. Described as a healer, educator and Boston community leader she received the 2012 Change Maker award from The Boston Founda on. On April 15, 2013, she approached the finish line of her fi h Boston marathon. Just blocks away, she heard explosions and ran towards them. Arriving at the scene she went to work administering CPR, applying tourniquets and triaging the wounded. Improper Bostonian magazine named her one of Boston s Best" and The Boston Globe awarded her with 2013 Bostonian of the Year an honor bestowed upon those that shape the biggest story of the year in a remarkable way. A er the bombings she increased her efforts in preven ng childhood violence and improving the health of urban communi es. She is a mentor for Sole Train a non profit organiza on guiding inner city youth on a path towards their full poten al through running. She is also the medical advisor for the Appalachian Mountain Club, helping improve the health of children by ge ng them outside. Mayor Erin E. Stewart Erin E. Stewart is the 40 th Mayor of the City of New Britain. She was first elected at the age of 26 in November 2013 and was overwhelmingly reelected to a second term on November 3, She is the youngest mayor in the city s history and only the second woman to hold the office of Mayor in New Britain. She has garnered na onal a en on for her leadership, results driven style of governing, and the many posi ve financial changes she has brought to New Britain, which is undergoing a drama c economic turnaround. During her three years in office, she has closed a deficit of over $30 million, brought about $16 million in budget reduc ons, ushered in a four notch upgrade from Standard and Poor s ra ng agency to bring the city s bond ra ng to A+, and ended the 2015 fiscal year with a $14.9 million surplus. For the first me in many years, the city s grand list is experiencing growth. Mayor Stewart was recently named number one on Newsmax s list of the Top 30 Most Influen al Republicans 30 and Under. Kara Sundlun Kara is a two me Emmy Award winning news anchor and talk show host at WFSB TV, the CBS sta on in the state of Connec cut. She hosts the popular day me talk show Be er Connec cut. Kara has covered some of the biggest stories of our me, from the War in Iraq, to repor ng LIVE from the terror a acks on 9 11, to breaking the horrific news of the school shoo ng at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Kara is also the author of her inspira onal memoir called, Finding Dad: From Love Child to Daughter, where she shares the story of mee ng her biological father Bruce Sundlun when she was a teenager and he was the Governor of Rhode Island. Amidst a na onal media frenzy, Kara learned she had to make the important decision to forgive her father for not acknowledging her growing up, and in her memoir talks about the Before and A er Dad Effect. Suzanne Walker Suzanne engages in a comprehensive compensa on and benefits prac ce at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, Washington, D.C. For over 18 years, Suzanne has been providing regulatory guidance and counsel to financial ins tu ons in the areas of short and long term incen ve compensa on, employment agreements and severance arrangements, as well as the nego a on of the employee benefit aspects of business transac ons. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Suzanne worked in the banking industry as a foreign exchange trader on the retail desk of European American Bank, New York, NY. Suzanne is a frequent speaker on various topics impac ng the banking industry, including incen ve compensa on regulatory guidelines, human resource issues and bank culture. In addi on to her many professional achievements, Suzanne is a dedicated community volunteer, serving on the Board of Directors of Friendship Place, a homeless services organiza on in Washington, D.C.
