3 A professionally designed brochure (Fig 1&2) was used for advertising the event among the related community of our university which attracted many faculties from various institutions to participate in the event. Along with the brochure the program schedule was also circulated throughout various engineering colleges and the event was successfully conducted as per the schedule. Brief Profile of the Resource Persons Mr. PRASAD RAO O Deputy Controller of Patents and Designs at Patent office, Chennai, Government of India Mr Prasad Rao completed his Diploma in mechanical engineering, Mechanical Engineering at GMR polytechnic, in the year at srisailam. Later he completed Bachelor of Technology - BTech, Mechanical Engineering in the year at Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science, Yerragattu Hillocks, Bheemaram, Hasanparthy, Warangal. Further he pursued M Tech, Mechanical Engineering in JNTU Hyderabad in the year , He Joined Patent Office in the year 2002 as a Examiner of Patnets and Designs till 2008 later he was promoted as Assit Controller of Patents and Designs from 2009 to 2017 now he is serving as Deputy Controller of Patents and Desgins from 2017 M.G.Kodandaram, IRS, Assistant Director (Retd) ADVOCATE & Master Trainer of GST for CBIC, GOI Sri M. G. Kodandaram, IRS, Assistant Director (Retd), Master Trainer of GST for CBIC, GOI, has contributed immensely to the field of training and capacity building. He has trained thousands of officers in the various departments, trade bodies, Students, organizations on indirect taxation and related laws and procedures. He is a recipient of the SANMAN award for his outstanding service. As recognition to his great effort, he received felicitation as an outstanding Faculty of National Academy of Customs, Indirect taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), at the hands of the Union finance minister Sri. Arun Jaitly on 1 st October He is in the Expert Group for Orientation Course on GST for PSUs formed by Fiscal Policy Institute, GOK. He is a Member of the State GST Committee in the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FKCCI), Bengaluru. Sri
4 Kodandaram, at present now serving as an Advocate and Consultant, started his Public service as an Executive in CBEC in 1981 and retired on superannuation on 31st May With his immense knowledge and experience he has been participating in multiple Seminars and conferences. He has presented many works on taxation, IPR law, Cyber law, FEMA etc., He has also been a keynote speaker in various prestigious conferences. He is conversant with the latest changes in indirect taxation law and regularly keeps publishing his articles in various web sites such as taxongo.com, tiolcorplaws.com, taxindiaonline and KLJ Journals and publications. He is a guest faculty in over 60 training institutes and management colleges. He has recently authored the book titled A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO GST PRACTITIONERS' EXAMINATION. Shubham Istrewal Assistant Profile CIPAM, New Delhi Shubham Istrewal is a legal professional and works as an Assistant Manager with the CIPAM s Enforcement team. He possesses a Master s degree in Intellectual Property Rights and Business Law from NLIU, Bhopal and also holds a Diploma in Information Technology and Social Media Law from WBNUJS, Kolkata. At CIPAM, Shubham s role is to strengthen the enforcement and adjudicatory mechanism for combatting IPR infringements in India. In addition to conducting capacity building programs for judiciary, customs and police, his responsibilities are to develop proactive strategies for addressing counterfeits and piracy issues to assist in International negotiations, reviewing bilateral/ multilateral agreements and the policy matters. Shubham s previous work experience was with the Copyright Office of India, where he gained significant knowledge about the copyright law, and to feed his insatiable interest in this subject, he enjoys exploring this field and reading the related literatures. Brinda K. Varma Advocate and Patent Attorney IISC Brinda K. Varma is an Advocate and Patent Attorney with over a decade of experience in dealing with IPRs including Patents and trademarks. She is associated with research wings
5 of several institutes to frame their IPR strategies and appears in various courts in Bangalore for her clients. She is the managing partner of Aekam Legal Abode, a law firm based out of Bangalore, which handles and assists businesses including start-up s in various legal matters from inception of a company to protecting their IP.Her primary focus areas are patent drafting and prosecution, IP litigation, training researchers of various educational institutes and startups on various aspects of patent, trademark and copyright related areas. She is also associated with Intellectual Property Cell of IISc as an IP Executive. Handled technology transfer deals for IISc inventions, drafting and negotiating research and license agreements, preparing, filing and prosecuting patent, design and copyright applications and has managed outside counsels. She is instrumental in transforming the IP cell of IISc from a service facilitator to a service provider. She has involved in handling several research based collaborations with industries. She worked towards pursuing a systematic, mutuallybeneficial engagement with research-based national and international companies in order to encourage them to partner with IISc. Ms. Brinda holds an M.Sc degree in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Bangalore University. She has an LLB degree from Bangalore University. and a Post-graduation degree in Business Administration from Symbiosis, Pune. She is a registered Indian Patent Agent and qualified to practice before the Indian Patent office. She is the recipient of Association of Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) for Patent Experts. Ms. Brinda is also active in IPR and commercial law litigation and in the field of contract law. She is a regular speaker at various forums and has delivered talks at various research organisations across the country in the field of IPR and is also involved in corporate training in the fields of commercial laws, contracts and consumer related laws. She has authored a chapter namely, Intellectual Property Rights and the Technology Transfer Process for a book titled Treatise on process metallurgy. Also, she is associated with Visvesvaraya Trade Promotion Centre, Govt. of Karnataka, as an IPR consultant. Mr. Rakesh Babu COO & Director, Innomantra Consulting Private Limited Bengaluru Office: Level 9, Raheja Towers, M.G. Road, Bengaluru K.L. Rakesh Babu is Director at Innomantra. He is a master innovation trainer who has designed and delivered highly acclaimed innovation engagement and training programs with several Global Fortune 500 firms. He specializes in training senior executives in the areas of innovation tools, collaborative innovation and innovation leadership. He is a co-developer of the Functional Innovation Methodology, a systematic approach for
6 product, process and business model innovation. Since 2011, more than 1000 innovators from 50+ leading global firms have been trained on this approach. Recently he has worked with leading firms like ABB, NetApp, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Alcatel Lucent, BEL and Larsen and Toubro in developing and designing result-driven innovation engagements. Rakesh heads the training division of Innomantra Consulting Private Limited. Rakesh has more than 20 years of experience in innovation management, entrepreneurship and marketing. Prior to Innomantra, he managed a consumer packaged goods business and served as the director of Marquess Financial Services. He has a degree in Computer Science, Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing and has been part of Design thinking programs by IDEO-U and Darden University. He is also a member of Confederation of Indian Industry s Information Technology panel. He has been in the F&T panel twice and is currently in the IT panel for 3 consecutive terms. He has chaired many events and has been invited as a speaker in several platforms & institutions. Mr. Mohan S G Consultant, Patent Information Center, Karnataka State Council for Information and Technology, Bangalore Coordinates IPR Awareness programmes at the Engineering Colleges and other professional Institutions and also assists in furnishing information on Patent filing and assistance on IPR for industries in Karnataka. Mr. B. Vivek Anand Sagar, Consultant and IPR Attorney, Patent Information Centre, Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, IISc Campus, Bangalore He completed his Masters in Law (LL.M) in Business Law, Kuvempu University, Jnana Sahyadri, Shimoga (2012), Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management (PGDHRM), Kuvempu University (2012), M.A in Sociology, Kuvempu University. (2014), PG. D in Human Rights Law (PGD. HRL), from National Law School of India University, (2017) and is pursuing his Ph. Karnataka enjoys large scientific human resources in India with state of the art research and technology centres and scientific establishments in the country. Bangalore, the capital of the state of Karnataka is an acclaimed information technology centre of the world repute. About KSCST-SU IPR CELL KSCST-SU IPR Cell will be inaugurated & established on 20 th February 2019 for providing support & guidance to the students, research scholar, faculty members and industry personals in & around our region in protecting inventions and creations. Work as bridge between Patent Information Centre(PIC) & research centre s of our university Advice & Guide students, research scholars and faculty members on the importance of IPR, especially on patents, with the help of PIC. Arrange periodic meetings of groups of students, research scholars and faculty members with officers of PIC. Objectives of Patent Cell To create awareness about IPRs, especially patents, and also in neighboring regions of this centre. To enable patent searches for industry and R&D institutions in the region. To guide inventors in respect of patenting their inventions.
10 Srinivas University Engineering Campus organized a two days workshop on Intellectual properties and Rights (Patent) for its faculties in association with the Karnataka state council for Science and technology (KSCST) and Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM) Govt of India, New Delhi. Prof K Balaveera Reddy Chairperson Board of Governors of NITK was the chief guest. He inaugurated the workshop and spoke about the importance of research, publications and patents in India. He advised all the faculty members to involve in research activities along with teaching. It will increase the knowledge of the faculties and it is also a great contribution to the country. At the same time, he also inaugurated the IPR cell. Dr P S Aithal, Vice Chancellor of the Srinivas University gave a lot of inputs on research activities in our university. Dr Anil Kumar, Registrar also stressed the importance of research. Mr Kodandaram, retired IRS officer from CIPAM, Mr Prasad Rao, from Chennai Patent Office and Mr Vivek Anand Sagar from KSCST explained the role of KSCST and CIPAM in these type of workshops. Dr Praveen B M, Director Research and innovation Council welcomed gathering and Prof. Amruth C H gave an introduction about the chief Guest. Prof Ramakrishna Hegde Vice Principal proposed the vote of Thanks. Dr Shreeprakash B, Dean of Engineering college was present during the program. During this program, various resource persons from KSCST, CIPAM will engage lectures and hands on training on Patents to Srinivas University faculties and research scholars. Totally eight resource persons will deliver the lecturers. In future, the cell will help all the Srinivas university faculties and students to file patents and related activities. 12 After inauguration, on day 1, the morning session is been started by Mr.Vivek Anand Sagar, IP Attorney, IPR Cell, KSCST. He delivered an informative keynote and a thought provoking lecture on the topic An holistic view of Intellectual Property Rights. Mr. Prasad Rao, Deputy controller of Patents and Design, Representative from CIPRA, Government of India discussed on Understanding Patentability Criteria in India and also Non Patentable subject matter, Procedure of Filing Patent in National Phase, International Phase and First Examination Report. In the Afternoon session, Mr. Kodandaram, IRS(Retired) Expert Speaker, Business Administration and Intellectual Property Rights, Former Assistant Director, NACIN, Bangalore spoke on Why are Trademarks relevant for MSME? This includes with Creating or selecting a Trademark, Conducting Trademark searches, Registration procedure. On day 2, the first session is begun with Mr.Mohan IP Attorney, IPR Cell, KSCST explained and guided on Procedure of Filing Patent. In the next session, Mr. Shubham Istrewal, Assistant Manager, Representative from CIPRA, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Government of India, New Delhi delivered a lecture on Understanding Copyrights: A powerful IP tool. And also its implications in Research(Concepts of Plagiarism, Citations, Research Ethics, Exceptions, Fair Use, Computer Software related inventions and the law pertaining to the same, etc.). Immediately after a tea break, In the third session, Mr. Rakesh Babu, COO and Founding Director, Innomantra Consulting Private Ltd, Bangalore spoke & guided participants on Scope for patenting Engineering Innovations, Innovation interface- Technology Innovation referring to Engineering creations- Design Thinking, IP Management, Commercialization and IP auditing.
