2 2018 Guanghua New York Forum About the Forum 2018 Theme In 2014, Guanghua was presented a challenge: to create an international platform that would encourage the re-imagination of China s business and economic landscape. This gave rise to the Guanghua New York Forum. In its fifth year, renowned speakers, interactive themes and collective experiences provide a platform for over 200 Chinese and international industry leaders, academics and government officials to discuss, debate and exchange ideas. 7 120 th Anniversary of About the Organizer Celebrating its 120th anniversary, has been at the forefront of new ideas and innovations contributing to China s development. The school s alumni have actively shaped the nation s social and economic landscape. 8 2018 Guanghua New York Forum WANG Bo currently serves as Vice President of and is a Professor of Philosophy. He oversees the development of the University s undergraduate curriculum, research in liberal arts fields, alumni relations, the University Foundation, other academic and administrative areas. Professor Wang has published numerous books and journals including The Philosophy of Chuang Tzu, Lao Tzu Philoposhy and Historiography, among others. WANG Bo He was a Visiting Scholar at the Harvard-Yenching Institute from In 2014, he was named a Yangtze River Scholar by the Ministry of Education. He was previously the director of Religious Studies, served as the head of s social sciences division, and helped establish s Yenching Academy as its Associate Dean. Session 1: Global Economy: China, US & the World Jeffrey Sachs currently serves as a University Professor at Columbia University as well as Director of the Center for Sustainable Development. He was called by the New York Times, probably the most important economist in the world, and by Time Magazine the world s best known economist. A recent survey by The Economist Magazine ranked Professor Sachs as among the world s three most influential living economists of the past decade. He is a bestselling author and syndicated columnist whose monthly newspaper columns appear in more than 100 countries. Professor Sachs work on ending poverty, promoting economic growth, fighting hunger and disease, and promoting sustainable environmental practices, has taken him to more than 125 countries with more than 90 percent of the world s population. He is Special Advisor to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Sustainable Development Goals, and previously advised both UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. 9 9 ZHANG Tao current serves as the Deputy Managing Director at the IMF, a role to which he was appointed in August He brings extensive international economic expertise and experience in policymaking, including with international financial institutions, from his previous appointments as the Deputy Governor of the People s Bank of China and IMF s Executive Director for China from 2011 to ZHANG Tao International Monetary Fund Prior to his position as the Deputy Governor, Professor Zhang held a number of high-level positions in the People s Bank of China: Director-General of the Legal Affairs Department; Director-General of the International Department; and, Director- General of Financial Survey and Statistics Department. Professor Zhang also worked at the World Bank from 1995 to 1997 and at the Asian Development Bank from 1997 to LIU Qiao currently serves as Professor of Finance and Dean of s Guanghua School of Management. He previously worked at McKinsey & Company s Asia-Pacific Corporate Finance and Strategy Practice, where he advised various MNCs and leading Asian companies on issues related to corporate finance and strategies. Professor Liu has published dozens of articles at leading academic journals including Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Journal of Accounting Research, and Management Science, among others. He has also been interviewed by CCTV, CNBC, BBC on issues related to Chinese economy and banking. 10 2018 Guanghua New York Forum Session 2: Technology, Business, and Society Max Tegmark currently serves as a Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a Co-Founder of the Future of Life Institute. He is author of New York Times bestseller Life 3.0, which explores the impact artificial intelligence may have on social development. Max Tegmark Massachusetts Institute of Technology Tegmark is an author on more than two hundred technical papers, and has featured in dozens of science documentaries. He has received numerous awards for his research, including a Packard Fellowship ( ), Cottrell Scholar Award ( ), and an NSF Career grant ( ), and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society. Professor Tegmark has previously served as a Hubble Fellow and member of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University and spent two years at the Max-Planck-Institut für Physik in Munich. CAI Hongbin is currently a Professor of Economics at Guanghua School of Management,. He is a National Chang Jiang Scholar (awarded by China s Ministry of Education) and a National Outstanding Young Researcher (awarded by the National Science Foundation of China). Professor Cai has published many academic papers on topics such as wide range of areas including game theory, Chinese economy, industrial organization and corporate finance. He is a Fellow and a Council member of the Econometric Society. Professor Cai is a member of the National People s Congress, and a member of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League and Vice Chairman of its Committee of Economic Affairs. He was the founding president of The Chinese Finance Association and has also served on the boards of Sinopec Group, China Unicom, Everbright Bank, and other private corporations. 11 11 Anindya Ghose currently serves as the Heinz Riehl Chair Professor of Business and Director of the Masters of Science in Business Analytics program at New York University's Stern School of Business. He is the author of TAP: Unlocking the Mobile Economy which is a double winner in the 2018 Axiom Business Book Awards and has been translated into multiple languages. Anindya Ghose New York University Professor Ghose was named by Poets & Quants as one of the top 40 outstanding business school professors under 40 in the world in In 2017, the world s most influential Thinkers50 list ranked him as one of the top 30 management thinkers who is most likely to influence future organization management and leadership. He has consulted for leading global enterprises, and his interviews and research have been published broadly by key media outlets. ZHANG Ying is currently a Professor of Marketing and Management and serves as the Associate Dean of Guanghua School of Management,. Professor Zhang is a prolific researcher in the field of marketing and has served on the editorial board of leading marketing and management journals. Professor Zhang is an expert in China s new retail, business innovation and consumer insights.
