1 Arizona Council Meeting Minutes September 16, 2018 Hostess chapters: Alpha Nu and Beta Zeta The meeting of the Arizona Council of Epsilon Sigma Alpha was called to order at 10:02 am. The Invocation was given by Chaplain Carol Caldwell followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Opening Ritual. Welcome by Chris Goldberg, Arizona State Council President. Chris welcomed everyone to the September Council Meeting and the 76 th year of the Arizona Council. She stated that this year we were going to work on Leaving a Legacy in ESA and our personal lives. She then asked that everyone make sure their cell phones were turned off. Thank you from Ginger Ward, Easter Seals, for the donation of $25.00 There was no additional correspondence to come before the Council Treasurer s Report By State Treasurer, Donna Hall Beginning Balance on hand was $10, Beginning Working Balance on Hand $2, Total income was $0.00 Total Disbursements were $ Ending Balance on Hand was $10, Ending Working Balance 9/14/18 was $ The Treasurer s report will be filed for audit. Registration Report, Registrar Laury Watson Council Reps 37 Non Council Reps 14 Pledges 0 Guest s 3 MAL s 1 State President 1 Desa 1 Total 57 Executive Board Reports: President, Chris Goldberg Thanked the Alpha Nu and Beta Zeta Chapters for hosting the first Council Meeting and making the beautiful place cards. Chris stated that she is trying to get the membership more involved instead of listening to just reports. She stated her report would be spread out during the meeting. Her goal this year is to start with a million pop-tabs and end with a million dollars in donations.

3 Chris also stated that part of her legacy this year would be conducting a little workshop on Legacy building and sharing a magic moment. She asked that the membership get involved with sharing their own magic or precious moments. 1 st Vice President/President Elect Karen Madrid Karen introduced her Membership Committee and thanked them for serving on the committee. Karen told us she had been painting lots of rocks this past summer and had realized that each rock is unique just as each ESA member is unique. She then showed us a crystal bowl given to her by her sponsor Elsie Vogler and with the rocks she is creating a rock garden. She is giving each pledge, re-affiliate or transfer a rock to put into a crystal bowl. She then introduced Shannon Allen, a prospective pledge from the Alpha Omicron chapter. She then announced she had placed a copy of the application for new members in the black box. Karen also stated that all members and future members of ESA are unique and that membership growth is the future of ESA. 2 nd Vice President, Shari Stapleton-Smith Shari introduced the Committee for Philanthropic and Ways and Means and said that they had met by a conference call. They discussed the upcoming year and making some changes regarding the collectibles. Some collectibles will remain and others can become chapter projects. IC President Kim Kummer has issued a challenge to all of ESA to focus on our impact and giving in children s lives. Shari asked us to bring photographs and such to Council Meetings and share them and then at year s end we would like to present Kim with a small scrapbook of these photos. She has put in the black box a copy of the Philanthropic report and a list of IC Projects. On the website you can find the report form and AZ collectibles and other Philanthropic information Recording Secretary, Carol Caldwell Make sure you give me a copy of your report Corresponding Secretary, Theresa Stewart-Martinez No Report Treasurer, Donna Hall Donna introduced her advisor, Jacqui Smith and Financial Secretary, Suzanne Godard and she has vouchers.

4 Jr. Past President/Disaster Fund Chair/ Parliamentarian, Joni Slama Joni thanked everyone for purchasing the baked goods and introduced Cheerful Charlie, the change pig. Each chapter was given a Cheerful Charlie pig to put their change in for the Disaster Fund. She introduced the By-Laws committee and said they had met before the Council Meeting to discuss updating the by-laws which would mostly be housekeeping. Deadline to submit a by-law change is December 31, 2018 to be voted on at the April Council Meeting. She also announced that the Delta Pi chapter is selling and taking orders for Pumpkin Rolls and they are $ Joni announced that the Delta Pi Chapter is doing a new fundraising project. It is gift cards to be purchased for Hope for Heroes or yourselves through the Delta Pi Chapter. A list and letter were put in the black box. Forms are to be returned to a Delta Pi Member to be delivered at the November Council Meeting. Advisory Board Reports: Barbara Appleton, State Director Barbara announced there was 17 advisory board members in attendance and introduced the advisory board members who are advisors. Workshops: Julie Carlberg, Educational Chair Julie explained why the date was changed to turn chapter educational books in for judging. Reason was to see what chapters accomplished during the year. Books due to her by May 10, Shari Stapleton-Smith, Philanthropic Chair Shari, spoke and handed out information about the Giving Circle group called 100 Plus Women Who Care. They meet four times a year, members give $ per meeting, putting in a 501C-3 Organization and a winner is drawn that evening. The Phoenix group has donated $287, in three years and the Tucson group has donated $358, in three years. Chris Goldberg, Arizona State President Chris spoke on how friends are a great legacy and told us that on the tables were index cards and to take one and write our name on it, then down the side write the numbers1-8 and pass it down to the next person. We were to write down something about the person next to us and then pass it down till it came back to you. This is to learn more about each other.

5 She asked each person to fill out their secret agent form and turn it in to her. The goal is to make new friends and or learn something new about old ones. Lunch adjourned at 12:03 Reconvened at 1:03 Appointed Board Reports Barbara Nelson, Easter Seal Chair Phoenix Barbara introduced Annette Sutfin, Volunteer Engagement Manager for Southwest Human Development, who spoke about the golf tournament in Scottsdale on September 28 th and needing volunteers to work. Barb said we have donated 200 hours to them. The Anthem outlet was having a shopping day where 15% would be given back. Jackie Fahey, Easter Seal Chair, Tucson Jackie announced that on September 20 th they were doing Cooking With the Stars in Tucson for the Blake Foundation, Tucson and on November 14-16, 2018 the El Tour de Tucson and last a golf tournament in May Deana Walters, IC Easter Seal Coordinator, sent a memo asking about a speaker coming to a Council Meeting to speak. She announced that in 2019 Easter Seals would celebrate 100 years of service and would like to see Arizona donate 100 hours. Julie Carlberg Educational Director/Roster Chair Julie reminded that the educational books are due to her by May 10, new guidelines. She will send those that qualify to IC. She did the best she could on the rosters. Patti Gale, ESA Foundation Counselor Patti handed out certificates for Plateaus of Achievements that were given out to the state counselors at the IC Foundation workshop. She asked everyone to spread the word about the Scholarships which will be on line in November. Donna Ort, Western States Donna talked about the Fling on January in Palm Springs. Deadline for Western Ways Newsletter is October 14 th. The Helping Hands walk will be held during the Fling. The helping Hands Scholarship will be given.

6 Sherry Day, 2018 IC Convention Co-Chair. Sherry thanked everyone for help and donations for the IC Convention. They would be closing the books soon. We did make a profit. April Aguinaga, Webmaster Website is in the process of being updated and she handed out stickers to put in roster on how to get on the website. Wendy Williams, Member of the Year 2018 Wendy presented Sam Buyer from Beta Kappa from last year as she was unable to attend the convention. Wendy read the letter to nominate her. Carol Caldwell, Chaplain/Ocotillo Express Liz is sending out the cards and they want to hear from people with good and bad news. Also send in any new people with their information as they will not be in the roster. Deana Walters and Ann Jaccaud, St Jude Senior and Junior They discussed the St Jude Walk/run in Phoenix on September 30 th at Chase field. Need people to sign up for teams to walk/run/donate. The Las Vegas Walk/Run was the 14 th of Sept. and they raised $160, The Las Vegas Dream Home has sold all tickets in 42 days. They asked that you call the Phoenix office to see if you could serve on one of their committees for any of the events they are planning. Deana finished with a poem about Danny Thomas. Jeff Goldberg then announced that the Gamma Tau Chapter is hosting a Walk/Run/Block Party in Benson, AZ. It is Nov.10 th with games, food, raffles and you can sign up as an individual or team. Sheila McClure, Hope for Heroes Sheila has a theme this year Boot& Basic Training Camp. She reminded everyone to bring gift cards to the Nov. Council Meeting for the Military Families. She is looking into programs for the homeless vets. She will be highlighting different veterans in the Bulletin. She wants pictures of ESA members and/or family who have served or are serving in the Military. Jeff Goldberg, Co Convention Chair He is putting together an installment program to pay for State Convention. Money would be refundable if cannot make convention if notified before the convention deadline. They are trying to keep costs down.

7 Chris Goldberg, Magic Moments Chris named Kay Hicks and Sheila McClure for the first Magic Moments and she told a little about why they received it for touching her life. She wants all to note their Magic Moments. Unfinished Business There was no unfinished business New Business Joni Slama reported that it was the recommendation of the Executive Board to accept the recommendation of the Delta Pi Chapter to donate the proceeds of $ from the 2018 State Convention as follows: $ to the ESA Foundation for the Arizona Council Scholarship and $51.04 split between Southwest Human Development and Blake Foundation. Shari Stapleton-Smith seconded. No discussion. Motion carried. Joni Slama reported that on behalf of the Executive Board I recommend that we accept the Arizona Council Budget as printed on page 3 of the September Bulletin. Madam President, Donna McAvoy, Beta Gamma Chapter #1056, I move to accept the recommendation of the Executive Board to accept the Arizona Council Budget as printed on page 3 of the September Bulletin. Kay Hicks seconded. Motion Carried. Chris announced she had been asked to have the minutes of the Council Meetings read which she said no. After discussion with the Executive Board it was decided they would be printed on the website. Chris said there was a piece of paper on the tables with three logos saying To Go with the ESA logo on the Ronald McDonald Website; we were to vote for one. There was no further business to come before the board. Closing Remarks Chris thanked everyone for making a positive impact on each other and hoped that each one was closer to finding their gift or passion. Announcements
