3 Chamber Updates A Message From Your President Thank you to all of you who were able to attend the annual Valley City Chamber of Commerce and Valley City Barnes County Development Corporation Banquet on Thursday, April 28. We had a grand evening on the VCSU campus celebrating our collective accomplishments and recognizing a host of individuals and businesses that have contributed much to our community. The work of the Development Corporation and the Chamber of Commerce relies heavily on volunteers, those who make commitments of time and energy to move Valley City forward. I want to thank two chamber board members who have recently resigned their positions Mariah Richardson of Wells Fargo and Reed Anderson of the Valley City Times-Record. Thank you, Mariah and Reed, for your service to the chamber and the community. The departure of Mariah and Reed from the chamber board leaves us with two vacancies, and we re seeking new candidates to appoint to fill the remainder of their terms. We re looking for people who are engaged (or would like to be more engaged) with Valley City community life and are willing (and eager!) to attend our monthly meetings, take part in our committee work, support our Business After Hours and other events, and participate in our larger community events such as Rally in the Valley, Crazy Days, Christmas in the Valley, and the annual Pinochle Tournament. If you re interested (or know someone who might be interested), please let us know. This is an outstanding opportunity for civic engagement it s a means to learn more about Valley City, a chance to network with community business leaders, a way to make Valley City and Barnes County a more vibrant and robust place to live and work. A Message From Your EVP Congratulations to all the 2016 Chamber Award winners (see their pictures on the front page)! Each year, we take great delight in recognizing these individuals and businesses for their outstanding efforts and investment in our community. It is their contagious attitude and that of so many Chamber Members that leads to the success and charm of this wonderful area we call home. Once again, it was difficult to narrow down the many contenders for these awards! I would like to draw your attention to the Candidate Form flyer in this newsletter. The forum will be held Thursday, May 19 th in the VCHS HAC at 7:00 pm. This is an opportunity to hear from the City Commission Candidates before voting. Although the June 14 th Election serves as a Primary Election for County and State positions, this is the one and only election for the City Candidates. The Candidate Forum will also be broadcast live on KOVC, live streamed on newsdakota.com, and archived on the newsdakota.com site. CSI Cable will playback the Forum on channels 10 & 68, times to be announced. Questions for the Candidates can be submitted to vcchamberforum@gmail.com or by calling the Chamber office at A special thank you goes out to our Members who have renewed their Membership this month, listed on page 2! I hope you enjoy this beautiful spring in Valley City! Kay Vinje Please consider who might make a good addition to our board of directors and share their names with us; we need your help in identifying key players for our board. Thank you. Greg Vanney 3
4 Annual Banquet Highlights The Chamber would like to send a sincere thank you to all who attended this year s Annual Banquet as well as speaker, Doug Burgum and all of our Chamber Award Winners. We would also like to thank VCSU, Sodexo, & City Lights for providing us with a wonderful banquet experience! Thank you as well to those who donated centerpieces for the evening: Sheyenne Care Center, Central Avenue Health Mart Pharmacy, CHI Mercy Health, KLJ, Dacotah Bank, NDWS, KSJB 600AM and Bank Forward. 4
5 Volunteers needed! The Chamber is looking for some volunteers to help with the inflatable games for Rally in the Valley on June 18, If you would like to sign up please go to or contact the Chamber. Rally in the Valley Parade Entry Applications can be found online at or stop at the Chamber to grab a form! 5
6 Customer Service Award This month s Customer Service Award goes to South Central Adult Services Bus Drivers Pictured L to R: Stan Cass, Wally Bjornson, Jenn Miklas, Duane Burchill All drivers are great to work with. They are all very professional and treat our residents with the dignity and respect that they deserve. They go the extra mile to make sure our residents get to where they need to go and that they are comfortable along the way. I have seen several of them help our residents get to the elevator if they are unable to do so themselves. Every driver that comes here has a positive attitude and they always find ways to make our residents and us smile. -Satisfied customer Have you received wonderful customer service within the last year? Please let us know so they can be recognized! You can find the Customer Service Award nomination for under the Forms & Information tab at 6
