2 Pat Carleton The journey that led Pat Carleton to sweet success is a fascinating one. It s a journey that began very early in life with her love of all things arch - itectural, interesting locations and the people who were attracted to them. It was only fitting that she pursued her Master s degree in Urban Plan - ning and, in the 1970 s, served as Chief Environmental Officer for the National Capital Planning Commis - sion (NCPC) under President Gerald Ford s administration. All this while obtaining her real estate license and attending law school in the evenings at Georgetown. After Pat s job at the Planning Com - mission ended, she went to work for a small real estate law firm. Initially I started out doing develop ment documents for developers who were converting condos in Washing ton, D.C. during the urban revolution.

So she convinced her husband who was also her law partner to convert their existing apartments into coop s. In the years that followed, they converted thousands of apartments, many that she still owns today. I look back with great pride on that accomplishment because I m still involved with it and I can see just how much real estate has changed. In 1994, after a 20-year career in D.C., Pat packed it all up and drove her horse trailer out west with plans to retire in Arizona. That lasted three weeks. It didn t take with me at all, Pat recalls with a chuckle. So she joined the team at Russ Lyon and has been there ever since. She spent 11 years at the Carefree office before

4 moving to the Scottsdale location, where she works today. Not only do Pat s many years of ex - perience and extensive know ledge put her in a league of her own, but her enthusiasm and genuine love of real estate is truly what sets her apart. I would do this even if I weren t paid, insists Pat. It s a life long love of this industry that per meates everything I do. People can sense that and they feel comfortable trusting me with a very important decision. It is without a doubt that clients are confident in the advice they receive when working with Pat and knowing that she will devote her full attention to their transaction is what they remember most. I prefer to con - centrate on one family or one person at a time to get as close as possible to helping them achieve their dream, says Pat. Her persistence is key to accomplishing that. Because I m a lawyer, I m very stubborn. I never give up! Pat recalls one particular couple she worked with years ago.

5 We looked at 94 houses in eight days and the 94th house was the one. We never gave up. Away from the office, Pat devotes her time to raising money and awareness for the United States Hunter Jumper Association, an organization that promotes the sport and well-being of its participants. It s my parallel universe. I work to conserve the lives of our champion horses. I find new homes for them just like I find new homes for people! In her spare time, she enjoys reading, jogging the trails at the Scottsdale Princess Resort and cheering on the University of Kentucky basketball team. I m crazy about it! When looking back at her lifelong career, there are many things Pat can be proud of, from her prestigious position with the NCPC to having her home featured in Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine. Although, accor - ding to Pat, I m mostly proud of just putting people and places together.
