2 Style Studs and Lace UNLOCK THE POTENTIAL HANGING INSIDE YOUR CLOSET Hi! Are you feeling deflated and uninspired by your closet? Do you have a closet full of clothes yet seem to have nothing to wear? Do you dream of that elusive, versatile capsule collection? Well you re not alone! The reality is that few of us invest the time needed into sorting through our closets, and we rarely take the time to truly understand how to dress to flatter our shape, build outfits and develop our style identity. The result of this is that we have an uninspiring closet full of clothes that only yields a tiny selection of outfits. We reach for the same few pieces, day after day, and we wear them in the same way. If you want to turn your collection into a versatile, hard working capsule collection, there are a few main areas to address and this work book is going to help you work through one of them identifying the unworn items in your wardrobe and creating outfits wit them. As you work through this booklet you ll identify the unworn items in your closet, assess each piece, hunt down clothes you already have that compliment them, and build these into a variety of outfits. I've done hundreds of Closet Consultations during my time as a Personal Stylist and this is one of my favorite stages of the process! So put aside some time for yourself, make a strong cuppa (or grab a glass of wine) and keep an open mind. Now, lets unlock some of that potential hanging inside your closet! W W W. 3 Before you start THE HEART TO HEART LETS GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING ABOUT YOU AND YOUR STYLE Before you start it's a good idea to have a little heart to heart with yourself - ask yourself why you want to sort out your closet, and have a think about your style I know it's not easy to address some of these issues but I urge you not to miss this out. I spend a while talking this through with my clients before we've even opened the closet doors and find it immensely useful. Here are a couple of questions to get you started: Describe your current look is there anything about it you would like to change? What are the items you find yourself wearing again and again, and what is it about these pieces that you like? UNLOCK THE POTENTIAL HANGING IN YOUR CLOSET 1

4 Checklist TOOLS OF THE TRADE SOME OF THE ESSENTIALS YOU'LL NEED AS YOU WORK THROUGH THIS These are some of the most important tools I carry with me in my toolkit, I recommend you have some or all of them to hand before you start 1 FULL LENGTH MIRROR 2 HANGING RAIL - It's easier to see what you have if it's hanging. 3 NOTEBOOK + PEN - There is space at the back of this workbook for you to make notes, but grab a note book in case you need more space. 4 DRESS MAKER PINS + TAPE MEASURE - To help identify possible alterations. 5 SELECTION OF ACCESSORIES - Jewellery, scarves and footwear, so you can create complete outfits. 5 Stage one YOUR COLLECTION IDENTIFY, REMOVE + ASSESS THE ITEMS YOU'RE NOT WEARING The goal at this stage is to make sure that the only items left hanging in your closet are those you are wearing. You're going to remove everything else (and I mean everything else if you re umming and ahing about an item I want you to remove it) and assess why you're not wearing. Go through the pieces you've removed and divide them into 4 categories, such as: 1 GET RID ALTER OR REPAIR FITS BUT DOESN'T FLATTER I WANT TO WEAR - this is the pile we're going to deal with today. I will cover the others in future workbooks so stay tuned! As you go thorough each of the items, ask yourself if they fit or if they can be altered to fit you better. Look at the color, does it make you look tired or does it brighten you? Pay attention to the shape, does it highlight an area you feel self conscious about, or enhance your figure and make you feel great? We're looking for the latter! 6 Stage Two ASSESS THE 'I WANT TO WEAR IT' PILE MATCH THEM TO PIECES IN YOUR CLOSET Now that you've uncovered the pieces you should be wearing you can start to think about building outfits around them. To do this you're going to need to identify the clothes in your closet (the ones that you left in there - that you are wearing) that best compliment them - these are the pieces you will use to build the outfits with. There are many points to consider when building new outfits such as color, print, fabric and shape. This workbook focuses on color. Go through each item in the 'I Want To Wear it' pile and consider the following: 1 What color is it? Is it a bright bold color or a neutral? 2 Whats the hue? Does it have a yellow undertone or a blue undertone? 3 If it's a print, make sure to note all the colors in it. Now head to your wardrobe and pull out any items that compliment each piece based on your assessment above. Don't worry about trying to match the color, be creative and have fun with your color combinations! If you're struggling to find anything that goes with it, either trash it, or make a note in the space at the back of this workbook to purchase something that does. 7 Stage Three BUILD OUTFITS MIX AND MATCH THE COMPLIMENTARY PIECES Now comes the fun part! Creating new outfits with those un-worn clothes! To do this, you're going to mix and match the pieces from the 'I Want to Wear it' pile with the clothes you identified in Stage Two. It's important not to rule out combinations, if this is to be successful you're going to need to mix and match these items to the maximum and try as many different combinations as possible. There are so many ways to mix and match. If you're feeling a little uninspired try out some of my favorite pairings, below: Layer blouses and shirts under dresses, jumpsuits and knitwear. Put sweaters over dresses Layer trousers under dresses Tuck in tops that you normally leave un-tucked Pair opposites together dressy and casual, feminine and edgy, fussy and plain... Make sure to make a note of the outfits you liked and when you re finished, hang everything back up in the closet so you don t forget you have it! And you're done! You should now have a closet that contains a whole host of new outfits!
