The idea is to create a stylish look that appear effortless; yet it also functions well for the fluctuating temperatures we experience during the cooler winter months. 2 pieces: top & bottom. Use this 4-step process to start layering like a pro... 1. Start with the basics. A basic dress, skirt, classic pants, or jeans and a good-fitting basic t-shirt or blouse. Put this first layer on.

Use these layering ideas below: Add a sweater over the blouse Add a sweater over a basic sheath dress Add a buttoned-up cardigan over the tee-shirt Add a sparkly tank over the plain one Add a funky vest over the long-sleeved tee 3. As you think about what second garment you want to layer OVER your first layer, keep these 2 rules in mind to make your layered look a successful one: The longer the garment, the nearer your body it should be (in most cases). The thicker the garment, the closer it should be to the top of the layering. If you would like, you can now add another (third) layer (especially if it s cold outside)! Consider adding a jacket over the sweater over the blouse, a chunky cardigan over the buttoned-up cardigan over the tee-shirt, a vest over the sparkly tank over the plain one.

4 4. Last but not least, layer on your accessories! Accessories are essentially another layer you add to complete your outfit. They are the completer pieces that add yet another layer, but more importantly, they add interest to your outfits! Think: Belts, scarves, leg-wear, and assorted jewelry as another layer to add.

6 5 tips to help you get it your layered look right: 1. Start simple. Add one more layer to what you would normally wear. 2. Avoid looking bulky by layering thin pieces and then adding a thicker layer only as the top piece. 3. Mix Fabrics. A fuzzy wool vest over a sleek silk blouse, a chunky cashmere cardigan over a thin cotton tee. 4. Vests (sweater or suiting vests) are great pieces for layering over any blouse or tee and under a jacket too. 5. Always have ONE piece that adds a pop of color to your layered outfit! (Notice below the yellow handbag or the red vest is the pop of color piece) Below are outfit ideas to get you started with your stylish layering: Start with a white blouse and jeans...then layer on a flyaway cardigan and a striped scarf. Now, add a handbag in a color taken from the scarf! Viola!

15 Why layer? The point of layering clothing (other than keeping warm) is to display contrasting items-stylishly. That s why layering with different colors and styles works so well. Layering in a single color often creates a blob-ish look. Showing the sharp contrast between your thin, white shirt and the bold, blue vest over it, really brings interest to your outfit. Usually, lighter colors look better when worn under dark colors. A black shirt with a short, white sweater can appear a little chunky. BUT a white shirt with a short, black sweater appears softer and more in balance. It's also difficult to pair a light color over a dark one without having the dark color show through. Grab these out of your closet and start layering. The best types of clothing to use for layering are scarves, vests, leggings, sweaters, unbuttoned blouses, short dresses, short tops and long tops. A tank top, slinky dress, open sweater and matching leggings are also fabulous pieces to use as layers. Layering can also help to balance out certain figure flaws...so play around with layering based on your body type. It s your turn!
