2 ACTIVITIES TO DO ON YOUR OWN (OR WITH A FRIEND!) VAMPtv Episode 96 This song by Bärra Westwind band is called Wurrumba. That is the Yol\u Word for Great White Shark. The band has recently been involved in the launch of a brand new film called Westwind: Djalu s Legacy. Bärra (bah- rra) is the name of a songline belonging to the Galpu Clan, telling the story of the West Wind. It is from this songline that the band takes its name, its inspiration, and its power. 3 ACTIVITIES TO DO AS A CLASS OR WITH GROUPS AND YOUR TEACHER The BEAT DANCE Students had to spend a long time rehearsing to perform at the BEAT. Most of the work happens before the big night. It requires teamwork, dedication, persistence and courage to put in the long hours of rehearsal, and then to get up in front of the audience and perform. We saw the students of Maningrida, Ramingining and Ludmilla as they prepared with their teachers. The dancers had to make up a dance that interprets the song Dreamtime Shadow. Dance is another way of telling the story, but through movement, no words or pictures, just the dancer s moves and bodies. The process of creating dance is called choreography. The task is to choreograph a set of movements (dance) to show a story, but before we do, there s some VOCABULARY that we need to make sure we understand. Use your favourite dictionary, or online dictionary to check what these words mean, then write the word into a sentence. Dedication: Persistence: interpret: A Cappella RL 3.1 Communication

9 ACTIVITIES TO DO YOUR OWN (OR WITH A FRIEND) OR WITH YOUR TEACHER VAMPtv News No VAMPtv news (but no news is good news right?) We need YOUR news! What is the news from your community or school? If you send us your news report to us and we ll send you a mini sports camera* for your class to use! FOR REAL!!! *something like this maybe not exactly! Have a go at making your own VAMPtv news, it could be a joke one like Woolaning students did in episode 71, or about something real at your school or in your community. You can either; 1 Write the story, tell us the details, and include photographs, and send it to us to film with the VAMPtv hosts. Or; 2 Video your own news presentation. When you prepare your news there are a few things we need to know, so we can understand the story. What happened? Where was it? Who was involved? What was the Outcome? You can also include When? and Why? and How? When you know these things, you can write it up into a SCRIPT. The script is the words that the news presenter will say.
10 ACTIVITIES TO DO ON YOUR OWN (OR WITH A FRIEND) If you want to send in your report and have us film for you, you will need to write it as a story. If you write it as a story, you will need an introduction, a middle, and a conclusion. introduction sets the scene let s us know the main points like where and who and what middle (or body) has more information about the what and possibly some why and how too! conclusion or end of the story will have the OUTCOME, or what the end result was take Remember to make sure you send in PHOTOGRAPHS too. Make it someone s job to or collect the photos that go with the story. If you are hungry for more info and advice on writing a news story check out the Teachers Notes for Episode 59! vamptv.mail@ntschools.net Can you find any thing in the environment around you that looks like an o? Take a photo, and it in just like the kids from Harts Range did! They ve got their VAMPtv Shirt, time for you to get yours! TOO EASY!! 12 ACTIVITIES TO DO WITH YOUR TEACHER ON YOUR OWN (OR WITH A FRIEND) This song featured in the 2017 BEAT Festival and is a classic from the Wirrinyga band that come from Milingimbi. Dreamtime Shadow Standing out on the lonely wilderness Stood a figure of the serpent man Dark black clouds Are covering the timeless land Orche red Spreads across unknown skies Light reflects of dawn Shows the spirit of the serpent man Chorus Way! Way Way! Ma go ga \un\arran ro\anmara \un Go! Go! Go! Bala\arraki\al wa\alil Dreaming times all begun Ever since the white man knew Yol\u are all the people That knew about the dreaming time It doesn t matter today we are living in the civilized world Take me back to the dreamtime Far away to Yol\u land Chorus ACAMUM089 Music Develop technique and skills
13 ACTIVITIES TO DO WITH YOUR TEACHER ON YOUR OWN (OR WITH A FRIEND) Dreamtime Shadow Single Notes on a String When you play single notes the guitar sounds more like melody then when chords are played. Sometimes music notation is used to represent melody, but on guitar, TABS are often used. Like this diagram here; The lines across the page represent the STRINGS of the Guitar. The bottom line is the LOWEST Note string (but the top strings as you hold it) The numbers show which FRET to play. O means open string So, the picture shows us to play three notes, the first is the open A or 5 th string, then 2 nd fret on the same string, then third fret on the same string. That takes us from A to B to C - Play the chord on the C Frets E A D G B e AC -Music ACAMUM084 Aural Skills ACAMUM085 Practise singing and playing ACAMUM089 Music Develop technique and skills
