1 roadccess HDSL Doubler - Installation Instructions r o a d c c e s s Installation Instructions HDSL Doubler Description The HDSL doubler is used to extend the distance of HDSL links between the CU and RU. The doubler operates in conjunction with HDSL series cards in roadccess Ver 40, roadccess Ver 30, DCS-20E and DCS-20 systems, and with HDS series cards in Lightccess systems. The HDSL Doubler consists of the HDSL-ENC2 weatherproof enclosure containing one L-DL2 doubler card. Two cables for connecting the doubler to the HDSL links protrude from the enclosure base, as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1. HDSL Doubler Enclosure The HDSL-DL2 card incorporates HDSL transceivers to establish full-duplex data links between the CU and RU. The card receives HDSL data streams from each side and regenerates the data stream simultaneously on both sides, also adding the overhead bits to the stream going towards the CU HDSL card to report its status. dditional data concerning the status of the HDSL lines and the HDSL-DL2 is provided to the management software supplied with your system. See Table 1 for more information. P/N Rev January 2004 Page a.doc 27/01/ :33

6 Cable Connections Installation Procedure Caution: Modules can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD). efore handling any modules connect your wrist to an equipment ground using an approved anti-static wrist strap. Ensure that all uninstalled modules are stored in anti-static packing material. When working with modules, always place the module on an electrically grounded approved anti-static mat. 1. Ensure card is inserted in the forward slot and secured to card mounting bracket. 2. Ensure that the ground cable in the enclosure is securely connected to the card mounting bracket on one end, and the ground bar on the other end. 3. Connect the ground bar protruding from the base of the housing to ground, in accordance with local safety regulations. Note: For installation instructions of the HDSL series cards please refer to the installation instructions supplied with the Service Manual. Cable Connections Warning: High voltages are present on cables with feeding voltages. Warning: Ensure the doubler is grounded. Two open end cables lead from the doubler enclosure base: one for input and the other for output.
