1 743. SALSBURY, page SALSBURY 1. William 1 Salsbury resided first in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, then in Milton, Suffolk (now Norfolk) County. He removed probably in 1675 to Swansea, New Plymouth Colony (now Bristol County, Massachusetts), where he was slain on 24 June 1675, in the first engagement of King Philip s War. [1] He is recorded as buried there the same day. [2] His wife, Susanna, was scalped during the same attack, but survived. She returned first to Dorchester and then to Milton; on 18 September 1681 she was dismissed from the church of the former town to that of the latter. She is said to have died about 11 November 1684, but this claim is not well attested. [3] Children of William 1 and Susanna ( ) Salsbury are: i. (prob.) JOHN 2 SALSBURY, d. Swansea 24 June [4] ii. (prob.) ABIGAIL SALSBURY, m. Milton 9 June 1686 JOHN WILLISTON. [5] 2. iii. WILLIAM SALSBURY, b. 14 Aug. 1659, d. 3 April 1723, m. (1) HANNAH COLE, m. (2) MARY ORMSBEE. iv. SUSANNA SALSBURY, b. Dorchester 27 April 1662, [6] no further information. v. HANNAH SALSBURY, b. Milton 18 May 1665, [7] d. there 29 June [8] vi. SAMUEL SALSBURY, b. Milton 17 May 1666, [9] d. L. Peter Rounds, Abstracts of Bristol County, Massachusetts Probate Records, [Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1987], 65). Samuel was born 15 Aug. 1698, only six days before his mother s death (Arnold, Vital Record of Rehoboth, 738). Although no birth record of Mary Salisbury is known to exist, the timing of her mother s death, as well as her placement in John s will, suggests that Mary was the elder child of Mary (Brooks) Salsbury. This is probably the Mary Salisbury of Swansea who m. 25 Dec Ezra Ormsbee of Rehoboth (Rounds, Vital Records of Swansea, 175). (see 369. Ormsbee, 2, x.)

William 2 Salsbury (William 1 ) was born 14 August 1659 in Dorchester, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, [24] and died 3 April 1726 in Swansea, Bristol County, Massachusetts. [25] He married first, in Swansea on 30 July 1684, Hannah Cole. [26] She was born 14 October 1664 in Swansea, daughter of Hugh and Mary (Foxwell) Cole, [27] and died there on 23 June [28] He married secondly, 27 June 1705 at Swansea, Mary Ormsbee of Rehoboth, same county. [29] She was born 30 March 1671 in Taunton, New Plymouth Colony (now Bristol County, Massachusetts), daughter of Thomas and Mary (Fitch) Ormsbee [30] (see 369. Ormsbee, 2, ii.). She was living as late as 10 May 1732, when she and her stepson Richard Salsbury entered an account of William s estate.
