1 EXHIBIT D TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FIRE STATION DOOR REPLACEMENT PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 SCOPE OF WORK The work under this portion of the Request for Bid includes all labor, materials and appliances required to replace two door systems for the Stockton Metropolitan Airport Fire Station. The work includes removing and disposing of the existing door system, widening the door opening, replacing structural support for the building at the door openings, and furnishing and installing two heavy-duty insulated Thermacore door systems in the Fire/Crash/Rescue Building at the Stockton Metropolitan Airport. Each door opening shall be 14 wide by 15-3 high SUBMITTALS AND SUBSTITUTIONS A. Within ten (10) days after award of the contract, the Contractor shall submit a complete list of all materials he intends to use on the job. Where materials are specified by description and no manufacturers' names are mentioned in the specification, these materials need not be listed. Where one or more manufacturers' names are mentioned in the specification for any material, he shall list the material or device along with the name of the manufacturer he intends to use and a note to the effect that the material will be as specified. B. Should the Contractor desire to substitute for specified materials or equipment, he shall submit to the Engineer a complete list of the requested substitutions within five (5) days after the award of the contract. The request for substitution shall contain complete descriptive information as prepared by the manufacturer of the material or equipment being presented. Samples for evaluation shall also be submitted upon the Engineer's request. If, in the Engineer's opinion, the material or equipment as presented in this first submittal is in variance with the specified material or equipment, or if the information submitted is not sufficiently complete to allow proper evaluation, the substitution will be voided from consideration and the specified equipment and material shall be furnished SHOP DRAWINGS Within ten (10) days after the award of the contract, the Contractor shall submit to the Engineer, for written review, shop drawings of all related equipment. The Contractor shall check, correct and indicate approval of these shop drawings prior to submission to the Engineer. The Contractor is responsible to provide all items covered by shop drawings in compliance with all requirements of the contract documents and thus ordering of this equipment is at his option. The intent of early submittal of shop drawings is to attempt to minimize possibilities of misunderstanding or misinterpretation. Unless otherwise specifically directed in the following specifications, the submittal of shop drawings by the Contractor to the Engineer shall be as follows. A. The Contractor shall submit to the Engineer eight (8) copies of each shop drawing, only after he has made his check of the drawing. All shop drawings received without the Contractor's note of approval will be subject to return without review. The drawings shall be numbered consecutively. Page 1 of 8

2 C. The Contractor shall, at his own expense, furnish all shop drawings, material samples and lists of materials and equipment he proposes to use, as required in these specifications and/or as called for by the Engineer. These shop drawings, samples and lists shall be reviewed and returned to the Contractor within seven (7) working days after receipt by the Engineer. D. In the event that certain shop drawings are rejected by the Engineer, they will be so noted and returned to the Contractor for resubmittals. Resubmittals are to be made within a reasonable time. E. If the shop drawings show variations from the contract requirements because of standard shop practice or other reasons, the Contractor shall make specific mention of such variations in order that (if acceptable) suitable action may be taken for proper adjustment of the Contract. The Contractor will not be relieved of the responsibility for executing the work in accordance with the Contract, even though the shop drawings have been reviewed. F. The Engineer's review of shop drawings will be for general design and arrangement only, and shall not relieve the Contractor from responsibility for errors of any sort in shop drawings or schedules. The Contractor shall verify and be fully responsible for all dimensions and job site conditions affecting the work, and shall be responsible for furnishing and installing the proper materials required by the Contract, whether or not indicated on the shop drawings when reviewed PROTECTION OF WORK A. The Contractor shall protect all work, materials and equipment from damage from any cause whatever, and shall provide adequate and proper storage facilities during the progress of the work. He shall provide for the safety and good condition of all work until final acceptance of the work by the Owner, and replace all damaged or defective work, materials, and equipment before requesting final acceptance. B. The Contractor shall be held responsible for the protection and correction of the work of all trades from smears, splashes, stains or damages that might occur in the process of the work RECORD DRAWINGS A. At the beginning of the project, one copy of each applicable drawing, will be issued by the Engineer's office for use in preparing record drawings. B. Record drawings shall be recorded on the drawings as the project progresses. Upon completion of the work, the Contractor shall submit red-lined drawings to the Engineer for preparation of Record Drawings SITE INSPECTIONS The Contractor shall carefully examine the site and existing buildings, shall compare the drawings with the existing installations, and shall thoroughly familiarize himself with all existing conditions within the scope of this work. By the act of submitting a bid, the Contractor will be deemed to have made such examination and to have accepted such conditions, and to have made allowance therefore in preparing his figure. 3 1.07 GUARANTEE All materials and equipment provided and installed under this section of the Request for Bids shall be guaranteed by the Contractor for a period of two years from the date of acceptance of the work by the Owner. Should any trouble develop during this period due to defective materials or faulty workmanship, the Contractor shall furnish all necessary labor and materials to correct the trouble without any cost to the Owner SAFETY A. Contractor shall be solely and completely responsible for condition of the premises on which the work is performed and for safety of all persons and property on the site during performance of the contract. This requirement shall not be limited to normal working hours, but shall apply continuously. B. Contractor shall conform with all governing safety regulations CONTROL OF ALL WORKING TIME AND CONDITIONS BY OWNER The work takes place within the active area of the airport and every action must be totally coordinated with and remain under control of the control tower personnel and other of the Owner's representatives. All directions issued by the control tower must be conformed to immediately since life and safety is intimately involved. All active area and taxiway movement and crossings are to be radio controlled from the tower MATERIALS IN GENERAL All materials, equipment, parts, etc., provided under this Specification shall be new, unless specifically noted to be reused or relocated. PART 2 - DEMOLITION Demolition will consist of removing one foot of the doorframe from each side of the existing doors, which will include the removal of the existing pilasters that are supporting this structure. Prior to removal of these sections, temporary support shall be provided to the structure as shown on the structural plans. After the temporary support is in place, then the removal of the wall and pilaster shall be performed by sawing full depth along the designated edge of the new door opening and removing the pilaster and foundation as shown on the drawings. A new segment of foundation shall be constructed as shown on the drawings. The saw cutting of the wall shall be such as to provide a full-depth straight cut that does not damage the portion of the wall that is designated to remain. After the pilaster has been removed, then the surface of the remaining wall at the line of the saw cut shall be ground to expose the face of the concrete masonry unit (CMU) and to provide a smooth, uniform surface. Any defects or spalls shall be corrected by suitable grout or plaster and finished smooth. The surface shall be painted to match the existing walls. Page 3 of 8

4 PART 3 STRUCTURAL SUPPORT New steel structural sections shall be installed as shown on the plans to provide permanent support to the structure. The specification requirements for this support are included on the plans. PART 4 DOOR TRACK A 3-inch Low Headroom Door Track shall be installed. The door track shall be as manufactured by Overhead Door, th Avenue, Sacramento, California 95822, or approved equal, and shall be as detailed below: 3 (76 mm) TRACK LOW HEADROOM TRACK Springs to Front Door Height Centerline of Shaft Minimum Headroom 3" (76 mm) Track [15" (381 mm) Radius] Thru 12'-0" (3658 mm) D.H. + 9" (229 mm) 13" (330 mm) Thru 18'-0" (5486 mm) D.H. + 9" (229 mm) 13 3/4" (349 mm) Minimum Required Sideroom Track Type 3" Track (76 mm) Standard Lift 6 1/2" (165 mm) Low Headroom 10" (254 mm) Lift Clearance 5 1/2" (140 mm) Full Vertical 5 1/2" (140 mm) PART 5 DOOR 5.01 GENERAL A. The doors shall be heavy-duty Thermacore Series 591 doors as manufactured by Overhead Door, th Avenue, Sacramento, California 95822, or approved equal. B. Related Work Opening preparation, miscellaneous or structural metal work, access panels, finish or field painting, field electrical wiring, wire, conduit, fuses, and disconnect switches are included in this contract. C. Quality Assurance In accordance with accepted quality assurance guidelines for motor-operated doors, both the Thermacore door and electric operator shall be manufactured by a single-source producer of door systems and shall be Page 4 of 8

5 unconditionally guaranteed for two years PRODUCT A. Sections Section profile will be ribbed, textured surface. Sections will be rollformed, hot-dipped, galvanized steel exterior no less than (0.41 mm). Sections will be manufactured by a continuous foamed-in-place polyurethane lamination process resulting in a metal/foam/metal sandwich of homogenous polyurethane insulation. Sections (panels) will have a thickness of 1 5/8 (41 mm) and will incorporate a dual PVC thermal break and joint seal to prevent heat or cold conductivity. Panels shall be full width of door opening and 21 to 24 high. Panels shall be steel full height except the third and fourth panel from the bottom shall be glass. Glass shall be full height and width of the panel except for frame. Glass segments shall be rectangular in shape. Glass shall be ½-inch insulated glass. B. Insulation Insulation will be a rigid, foamed-in-place polyurethane core free of CFCs and will be fully encapsulated in nonpermeable materials to prevent loss of thermal efficiency over time. The insulation will have an R-value of (2.63 W/Msq), U-value of (0.380 Msq/W) calculated values based on certified test data. C. Air Infiltration All doors will be constructed with an air infiltration rating of 0.08 cfm per square foot of door at 15 mph (2.26 Lpm at 24 kmph) and 0.08 cfm per square foot of door at 25 mph (2.26 Lpm at 40 kmph). (ASTM E ) D. Windload ANSI/DASMA standards and as required by code. Consult factory for specific requirements. E. End Stiles End stiles will be 16-gauge steel. F. Springs Standard springs will be 10,000 cycles. (25,000, 50,000, 75,000, 100,000 cycle springs are optional.) G. Hardware Hinges and fixtures will be galvanized steel. Full-floating, ballbearing rollers will have hardened steel races. Roller sizes will be adequate for design requirements and limitations. H. Track Track is 3 (76 mm) and angle mounted. I. Weatherstrip Weatherstrip between sections will be a dual PVC thermal break and joint seal. Bottom weatherstrip will be EPDM rubber bulb-type strip. J. Finish Finish will be two-coat baked-on polyester with a gray interior and gray exterior guaranteed against delamination for 10 years. K. Operation Operation will be by electric operator with manual pull rope or chain hoist available for emergency conditions. Page 5 of 8

6 5.03 EXECUTION Install the doors in accordance with door manufacturer s instructions and standards, using an authorized manufacturer distributor GUARANTEE All portions of the installation shall have a two-year guarantee. PART 6 OPERATOR 6.01 GENERAL A. The door operator shall be as manufactured by Overhead Door Company Model RSX, or approved equal. B. Work Included Provide electric door operator(s) of size and capacity recommended for door(s) as provided by door manufacturer with electric motor and factory pre-wired motor controls, starter, reduction unit, band brake, clutch, control devices, and accessories required for proper operation. C. Related Work Opening preparation, miscellaneous or structural metal work, access, field electrical wiring, wire, conduit, fuses, and disconnect switches are in the scope of work of other divisions or trades. Check existing electrical wiring for adequacy. D. Quality Assurance In accordance with accepted quality assurance guidelines for motor-operated doors, both the door and electric operator shall be manufactured by a single-source producer of door systems, such as by Overhead Door Corporation PRODUCT General Motor A. The electric door operator shall be the standard-duty Model RSX door control system for a standard lift sectional door as manufactured by Overhead Door Corporation, or approved equal, and suitable for the type and size of door specified. B. The electric operator shall be single phase with Voltamatic the ability to adjust to the correct voltage of 115/208/230 for single phase without removal or addition of any parts. C. All components to have corrosion resistant coatings. D. The operator shall be suited for NEMA ICS 6 Type 1 environment. Page 6 of 8

7 Motor shall be ½ horsepower single phase with automatic thermal reset overload. Motor frame shall comply with NEMA 56 for all phases, open drip-proof construction Reduction Primary reduction shall be Super Belt, an auto tensioning poly-v flex belt that does not require adjustment. Secondary reduction is by chain and sprocket Duty Cycle Brake Duty cycle shall accommodate standard duty usage up to 60 cycles per hour during peak usage periods Clutch Brake shall be a DC Disc type with selectable Progressive Braking for smooth stopping. Clutch shall be adjustable friction disc type standard on all versions Limit System The Limit Lock limit system shall be magnetic type providing absolute positioning with push to set and remote setting capabilities. The Limit System shall remain synchronized with the door during manual operation and supply power interruptions Control System A. The control system shall be microprocessor based with relay motor controls on a single board. This system will incorporate Einstein Logic, with a 16 character Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) to display the system status. This system shall be capable of monitoring and reporting on a variety of operating conditions, including: Current operating status, Current command status, Motor movement status, Current error status (if applicable), Hoist Interlock status (if applicable), External Interlock status, 24VDC status. B. The control system shall feature a delay-on-reverse operating protocol. C. The system shall include maximum run timers in both directions of travel that limit motor run time in the event the clutch slips or some other problem occurs. D. It shall include provisions for the connection of a 2-wire monitored photocell system as well as standard 2-wire sensing edges, photocells or other entrapment protection devices. E. The system shall include provisions for connection of single and/or 3-button control stations. F. The system shall include provisions for connection of an external 3-wire radio controls and related radio control devices. Page 7 of 8

8 G. The control system shall include on board open, close and stop control keys for local operation. H. Trolley operators shall include an inherent secondary reversal system. I. The control system will include a CodeDodger radio receiver that is dual frequency cycling at 315 Mhz and 390 Mhz capable of storing 250 single button and/or 250 Open-Close-Stop transmitters with the ability to add and/or delete transmitters individually, identify and store activating transmitter ID(s) Mounting Mounting for sectional doors shall be by trolley, direct shaft-to-shaft coupling to door Release Release shall consist of a manual disconnect door arm on trolley units Secondary Reversal Trolley version shall include an integral electronic reversing system that will stop and reverse a closing door upon detection of an obstruction and designed to accept an optional external reversing device Optional Control Accessories A. Control accessories: In addition to interior pushbutton control station, radio control, furnish six each 2-channel dual frequency transmitters (RSX Part No. OCDFX2.S, or approved equal. B. Operator Accessories shall be Timer to Close and will provide auxiliary control inputs, auxiliary safety inputs, auxiliary timer hold input, and an automatic door closing feature with a user selectable time delay. Safety inputs are to be enabled or disabled using the on-board keypad. C. Operator Accessories shall be Auxiliary Output Module and will provide several auxiliary sets of dry contacts that are microprocessor controlled. Outputs can be configured using the on-board keypad Execution The electric door operator shall be installed in accordance with manufacturers instructions and standards.
