4 Information about this task manual 1. The purpose of the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Basic Plumbing Studies is to provide a highly structured approach to the practical and knowledge training and assessment that you receive in an approved Plumbing college or centre. The content of the certificate is directly linked to Plumbing National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). It should be noted that achievement or certification of this qualification does not mean that you are a fully qualified Plumber. Recognition as a qualified Plumber requires completion of a Plumbing NVQ. 2. This task manual sets out the mandatory practical assessment tasks that you must undertake as a compulsory assessment element of the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Basic Plumbing Studies. 3. Each task within the manual describes, by the means of set assessment criteria, the job performance in which you have to show your competence. The criteria shown are the minimum criteria that you have to meet. Each task unless indicated should be carried out by you on your own. The majority of the tasks include a time allocation for completing the task, within which the candidate should work. The allocation also includes time for completing all necessary paperwork (including supplementary evidence requirements). 4. Some assessment task specifications also use a drawing to describe the assessment criteria, eg practical task CT-1 5. Each assessment task sheet contains a section in which your attainment of the criteria will be recorded by the centre assessor. If more than one attempt proves necessary then the sheet should be photocopied and inserted in the file. Records of any failed attempts at an assessment must also be held in this manual. You may be required to produce additional documentation to support the activities. This documentation should be inserted at the end of the relevant task. 6. A number of tasks require the production of supplementary evidence (this production of supplementary evidence is a mandatory requirement of this qualification). The supplementary evidence requirements are detailed at the end of the relevant practical task. The purpose of collecting this supplementary evidence is to provide you with the opportunity to practise producing evidence of competence (a process which is a requirement of completing a Plumbing NVQ). A number of tasks contained within this manual, if completed successfully and correctly, can be used as evidence of competence towards a Plumbing NVQ. 7. All the relevant practical task boxes and signature requirements must be fully completed by you and the assessor. Documentation which is not fully completed or not properly counter-signed may result in the Awarding Body declining to provide certification. 8. The following page details a record of the knowledge assessments that you have completed towards the award. You should complete this page only when the relevant knowledge assessment has been satisfactorily undertaken and the entry must be counter-signed by your assessor. Page 3
