Expansion bolts shall be Hilti Type II stainless steel Kwik Bolts or equivalent where contacting aluminum members. All other expansion bolts shall be carbon steel Kwik Bolt Type II or equivalent. 3. Embedment of expansion bolts into vault ribs shall not damage existing reinforcement. 4. Prior to fabrication of support members, all dimensions of existing structures shall be field verified. 5. Do not use existing holes for new expansion bolts. 31 8b.17 Pylon Types 1. Type A pylons are located in below-grade and above grade stations, (existing stations only). 2. Type A1 pylons are located in above-grade side and center platform stations. Lighting is incorporated into these pylons, (existing stations only). 3. Type B pylons are located only on the street level and indicate station entrances. They are bronze with porcelain enamel line and station designations; the Metro symbol is backlit white acrylic. 4. Type C pylons are located in below-grade center platform stations. Air conditioning vents and/or lighting are incorporated into these pylons. 5. Type D pylons are located outside station entrances near entrance doors. 6. Type A, A1, C and D pylons are finished in metro brown porcelain enamel with white text and colored line designation. Pylon Types 8b.17

32 8b.18 Pylon Types A and A1 1. Type A pylons are used on both mezzanines and platforms of some existing older below-grade side platform stations. They are also used in above-grade stations beneath the platform canopies. 2. Type Al pylons are used only on existing older abovegrade station platforms; these pylons provide light beyond the platform canopy. 3. Type A pylons may carry a station thermostat or emergency intercom on any one of its four panels. 4. See WMATA standard drawing ST-A-PY-001 for balance of construction details. 5. 35 8b.21 Pylon Type B Station Entrances 1. Type B pylons appear only on the street surface at station entrances and indicate access to the Metro rail system. These pylons display the back-lit Metro symbol "M", the color of the line (or lines) served and the station name. 2. Line color stripes and station name are applied porcelain panels. 3.
