1 曉明女中 107 學年度 一人一藝文 特色選修課程 for Junior 1 Syllabus of Bring Art to Life 一 Brief introduction of instructor: Winter Renes was born and raised in New Jersey, USA. Having come from a family with an artistic background, she started drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil. In high school she majored in advertising art and design, where she started to hone her art skills and bring them into the digital world by working with Photoshop. In college she majored in computer animation, learning from those who have made movies for Disney. When she is not doing art, she is learning Mandarin Chinese or working on personal creative projects. 二 Brief introduction of this program: Each semester is organized by new materials and projects selected by the teacher, using progressively more advanced techniques. Emphasis is placed on art theory and its principles as well as art history that has influenced and helped to develop the art world as we know it today. 三 Objectives: a. To develop and expand students aesthetic perception (aesthetic perception) b. To develop and expand visual arts knowledge and skills to express ideas imaginatively. (Creative expression) c. To acquire knowledge of historical pieces of art through examples (Historic Context) d. The paper helps them understand how a 2D object can become 3D, while the wire and string teaches them how contour lines can also be used to create a 3D shape. *Note that the image is not an exact representation. handouts with 3D shapes printed on them, wire, colorful string, wire cutters, scissors. 4 Contour Class 1 In this class, I will explain what contour is and then proceed to let the kids practice contour by using lines to make fun illusions. handouts with pencils, black marker pens of varying sizes, and a ruler. In this class, students will be using Contour Class 2 their hands and contour lines to create the illusion of a 3D hand on paper. This lesson allows kids to understand 5 how to use line to follow the form of an object and make it appear like it is with pencil and black marker pens coming off the paper. of varying sizes.
3 6 Contour Class 3 In this class, students will be drawing portraits of their peers, without ever lifting their pencil off of the paper. This is a fun project, but tricky at the same time. Kids need to think fast and figure out how they can get from point A to point B in a face without lifting their pencil. By the end, they will have a face made up of purely lines, no shading. and pencil. 7 Contour Class 4 This will be another portrait class but the method of drawing the portraits will be very different. This time, they will be drawing blind. A paper plate will be put on their pencil so they can t see as they draw their classmates. This allows the students to not fear the outcome and relax and laugh at the end result. When drawing it is important to relax. and pencil. 8 Shadow 1 Now that the kids understand contour, how it works, and how it can be used to create a 3D effect in art, the students will start to understand light and shadow and learn about the value scale, drawing from light to dark or vice versa. Students will use both hard and soft pencils so they learn how the hardness of their lead can help them get the Handouts and both hard and soft pencils. preferred value they seek. 4 These techniques will come in handy for future illustrations. In this class, students will be given a shadow 3 variety of worksheets that will allow them to play with different values and 10 get used to controlling their pencils to make those values. Handouts, pencils, black marker pens. shadow 4 This will be purely a lesson on light and how it interacts with objects, how it casts shadows. Also, I will be teaching 11 the students tips and tricks on how to get a desired 3D effect. Art will be done Handouts in the next lesson. It is important for the kids to understand light and shadow before they attempt to recreate it. This class will start with a demo done shadow 5 by myself. I will show the kids how to make a circle become a 3D ball. Then they will do the same. This will be the 12 kids first time to add value to an object. By using the previously learned Handouts, and both hard and soft shading techniques, students will turn pencils. a circle into a 3D ball on their papers by creating the illusion of light and shadow. After having turned a circle into a ball 13 Shadow 6 in the last class, students will bring other shapes to life using the same techniques they previously learned. The shapes will be familiar to them from the beginning of the semester. Handouts, and both hard and soft pencils. Shadow 7 This might be a challenge for some of the students, however it is a fun break away from common shapes. Students 14 will cut strips of paper and twist and curl them. In this class, students will learn about complementary colors, where they are on the color wheel, and what those colors do. They will be given a handout to complete as well as a fun project to play with those colors. For this class, students are going to learn about monochromatic colors and learn the effects of color on human emotions. They will be given handouts and a fun assignment to play with monochromatic colors. In this class, we will focus on shading, but with color. This will be tricky as different colors will need to be used to get different affects. They will be given practice sheets to first get the hang of how different colors affect each other when it comes to light and shadow. handouts, handouts, handouts, 6 Color Theory 5 In this class, I would like to see students practice shading techniques with color on basic coloring book pages. This way I can see if they truly understand how to use color to create the illusion of light and shadow. handouts,
7 This class will be similar to the last class. However, this time the focus will be on coloring skin (faces) and hair in preparation for their final project. 7 Color Theory 6 handouts, 8 Human Anatomy 1 For anatomy lessons, I will not be using complex terminology. I will be explaining the body simply for them to focus on learning the concept of the human body. In the first class, I will be covering basic human proportions. I will be *NO NUDE PHOTOS WILL BE USED. ALL MODEL REFERENCE WILL BE COVERED APPROPRIATELY. breaking the human body down into simple shapes which will make it easier for the kids to see and handouts, pencils understand how the body works. 9 Human Anatomy 2 In this class, we will take a closer look at hands and learn how to break them down into easily understandable shapes. (This is just in case the students would like to include their hands in their final project.) After understanding the basic shapes of the human hand. Students will practice drawing their own hands in different poses. handouts,
8 The Face 1 Seeing as the face is a very complicated work of art, I will need to break it down into 3 classes. In the 10 first class, we will look at the anatomy of the eyes and mouth and learn how to draw them in a more handouts, realistic manner. Students will be given handouts and practice sheets. Here we will focus more closely on the nose and the ears and how to draw their complicated structures. Students will be given handouts and practice sheets. 11 The Face 2 handouts, After learning the details, it is time to put all the different elements of the face together in their proper placement and alignment. In this class, students will learn how to measure a face. 12 The Face 3 A bonus to studying the face in this manner, is that it helps kids learn to think in more detail and look more closely at things. There is more than meets the eye. They will learn that in these lessons. handouts, 13 Movement Students have learned about human anatomy. However, it is important for them to learn about movement as well so that their drawings are not static and boring. In this lesson I will be teaching students about the line handouts,
9 14 Posing and Balance 15 Final Project of action, how to find it in photos and art, as well as how to use it to their advantage to create a more dynamic drawing. They will then be given handouts to practice the idea of movement. This lesson is connected to the last one about movement. Movement is great, but if there is no balance, it will look all wrong. Not mastering balance breaks the illusion of reality, even if the drawing itself is amazingly done. Students will learn how to draw the human body in different poses and maintain the balance of the human figure. Poses will be discussed as well. They can make a piece of art much more interesting. After all, a face at a three quarter angle is more dynamic and interesting than a face looking straight ahead. Students will use this class to use everything they have learned to draw a self-portrait one last time. This time, they will be allowed to use color to see how they can manage color on a human face. Then they can compare it to their first and second self-portraits and see how far they have come. handouts, and pencil, colored pencils, and a big enough mirror with a stand to see one s face. 六 Evaluation: Students works and class participation.
