BOLTON PUBLIC LIBRARY CHILDREN S SERVICES 2015 SUMMER READING PROGRAM How does the summer reading program work? 1. This program is open to children ages 0-12. 2. There are separate logs for pre-literacy, beginner readers, and independent readers.

PRE-LITERACY: Have children 0-3 participate by reading to them and conducting other preliteracy activities (stop by the library for ideas!).

Every sticker represents 15 minutes of reading time; every 4 stickers (1 hour read) earns the reader a raffle ticket toward our weekly prize drawing. 5.

Books, magazines, comic books, audio books, and being read to by an adult all count toward summer reading points. 3. PRE-LITERACY: Have children 0-3 participate by reading to them and conducting other preliteracy activities (stop by the library for ideas!). Complete a sheet of pre-literacy activities and receive a prize. 4. BEGINNER READERS: Beginner readers are given a sticker log with stickers. Every sticker represents 15 minutes of reading time; every 4 stickers (1 hour read) earns the reader a raffle ticket toward our weekly prize drawing. 5. INDEPENDENT READERS: Independent readers are given a coloring log. Every symbol represents 15 minutes of reading time; every 4 symbols (1 hour read) earns the reader a raffle ticket toward our weekly prize drawing. 6. The library will raffle off two prize packs every Tuesday, and one lucky family will win a 5-pack of movie tickets at the end of the summer! Beginning Tuesday, June 16, stop by the library to register. The summer reading program ends on Friday, August 21. Registration for all programs begins Tuesday, June 16th! I m a Superhero Photo Magnet Craft Thursday, July 2, 3:30-4:30pm Ages: 5 to 10 Superhero Science: Escape Pods Tuesday, July 21, 3:30-4:30pm Ages: 6 to 12 Description: We ll take and print a photo of you in your best superhero pose, and you turn the photo into a magnet, complete with disguises! Description: Using recycled materials, keep an egg from breaking when dropped from a second-story window! Individuals or teams of 2 welcome to register. Devise a Disguise: Cape and Mask Making Thursday, July 30, 3:30-4:30pm Ages: 4 to 8 Undercover Agent Night: Ninjas and Spies Tuesday, August 11, 6:30-7:30pm Ages: 6 to 10 Description: Make superhero capes, glittery wrist cuffs, and colorful paper masks. Description: Race through a laser beam maze, decipher codes, make pipe cleaner ninjas, and snack on exploding treats! Registration is required for these events. All materials provided. While these figures from mythology are thousands of years old, you might be surprised to find that they share a lot more in common than you think with comic and movie superstar attractions like Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Superman. Join us as we discuss the pop culture phenomenon known as super heroes, from their not-so-humble beginnings in the Golden Age of comics, to the rise of Marvel in the sixties, to their current incarnations in comics, television, and movies (with a special emphasis on The Mighty Thor and The Avengers). Then, create your own characters and begin your very own comic strip!
