1 IRISH INTERNATIONAL CHESS OPEN 2019 The Irish International Chess Open 2019, organized by Irish Chess Federation, will take place from 17th-22nd April 2019, in Dublin, Ireland. The playing venue of the event will be Gonzaga College SJ. The event will be played in 9 Swiss rounds, with time control 90 minutes+ 30 seconds of an increment, starting from the move one. The registration deadline is 1st of April, and the entry fee is 100 EUR. After the registration deadline, organizer may accept the registration, but will charge the penalty of 25 EUR for late registrations.
2 The total prize fund of the event will be EUR. Besides the main event, the players would be able to play Blitz and Rapid event. The Blitz Championship will be played in 11 rounds by 3min+2sec time control, and will take place on 19th of April, with prize fund of 750 EUR. The Rapid Championship will take place on 22nd of April, and will be played in 7 rounds, with time control 10 minutes+ 5 seconds of an increment, with a prize fund of 750EUR. 36 players coming from 15 federations have already registered for the event. 3 The_Irish_International_Open_Flyer_2019 EUROPEAN YOUTH TEAM CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2019Regulations AVE-KONTAKT Pardubice agency (the organizer of Czech Open Chess Festival and Czech Tour Chess Festivals Series, the organizer from now), the Czech Chess Federation and the European Chess Union have the honour to invite all European Chess Federations and the European Chess Union (ECU) to participate in the European Youth Team Chess Championship 2019 organised in Pardubice, Czech Republic from 10th July to 18th July The European Youth Team Chess Championship (EYTCC) will include four separate competitions, an open competition and a girls competition, both in the categories U12 and U18. Each national federation member of the European Chess
4 Union (ECU) has the right to enter unlimited number of teams of four (4) players and one (1) reserve in the open competitions and unlimited number of teams of two (2) female players and one (1) reserve in the girls competitions. These teams may represent the national federation, a region, a city, a club or a school. Entry forms must be filled in and sent to the Tournament office before the registration deadline May 31st A complete registration form must include surname/s, first name/s, FIDE ID number, FIDE rating and title, and passport number or identity card number of each player, captain and each accompanying person. It also must include the name and telephone/ / of the chief of delegation. The playing venue of the event will be CSOB Pojistovna Arena. The European Youth Team Championship will be held according to Swiss system in 7 rounds, with time control 90 min for 40 moves + 30 min for the rest of the game + 30 sec increment for every move played starting from the first move.
5 The first three teams in each competition will receive trophies. Each member of the winning team (players, reserve and captain) will receive a gold medal. The members of the second and third placed teams will each receive a silver and bronze medal respectively. Additionally, all medalists receive in-kind prizes. 6 ECU IN LISBON, PORTUGAL The President of the European Chess Union, Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili, and the Vice President Mrs. Dana Reizniece Ozola, paid an official visit in Lisbon invited by the Portuguese Chess Federation during the annual International Portugal Chess Open. The visit and the meetings are part of the program which have been announced by the ECU Board Europe Support Chess.
7 Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili and Mrs. Dana Reizniece Ozola, accompanied by the President of Portuguese Chess Federation, Mr. Dominic Cross, and the Director of the Portuguese Chess Federation, Mr. Antonio Bravo, had a working meeting at the Ministry of Education of Portugal on 8th of February, where they discussed about promotion of chess in schools with the Portuguese national coordinator of School Sports programs, Mr. Rui de Carvalho and his cabinet. The outcome of the meeting, open the door for an important development for chess in an international level. The discussions are in progress.
8 After the Ministry of Education, the President and Vice-President of ECU have visited the new premises of Portuguese Chess Federation (PCF), which have been recently opened in Lisbon on the occasion of the 92nd anniversary of PCF.
9 Mr. Zurab Azmaiparashvili and Mrs. Dana Reizniece Ozola then visited the Portugal Open 2019 following the games of the 8th round. The Vice President of ECU, Mrs. Dana Reiznece Ozola marked the start of the 8th round by making the first move on the first board. The next day and by the end of the competition, the ECU officials attended the Closing Ceremony of the event and awarded the prizes to the winners.
10 After 9 played rounds of the Open Portugal 2019, Iturrizaga Bonelli Eduardo (VEN, 2640) triumphed with 7.5 points to be the sole Winner of the event. Eight players tied for the second place, each with 7 points, but according to the tiebreaks, top seeded Motylev Alexander (RUS, 2644) took the second place, while Petrov Nikita (RUS, 2585) came third. 11 The Portugal Chess Open 2019 took place from 2nd-9th February 2019 in Lisbon, Portugal, with participation of more than 250 players coming from 39 federations. Official Website of the event
12 OPEN PORTUGAL 2019 Five rounds have been already played at Portugal Open 2019, which was opened on 2nd of February and will take place until 9th of February at the Sports Complex of Casal Vistoso in Lisbon, Portugal. More than 250 players coming from 39 federations participate at the event, among whom are three players rated over 2600: Motylev Alexander (RUS, 2644), Iturrizaga Bonelli Eduardo (VEN, 2640) and Hansen Eric (CAN, 2615), and in total 17 Grandmasters and 17 International masters.

14 The Portugal Open is a 9-round Swiss System tournament with time control 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move starting from the move one. The total prize fund of the event is EUR with EUR reserved for the Winner of the competition. The Portuguese Chess Federation, within the Portugal Open 2018, organises and a Rapid tournament which will take place on 10th of February. Official Website of the Championship
15 The Portuguese Chess Federation (Federação Portuguesa de Xadrez, FPX), founded on 22 January of 1927, is a Sports Federation, with about 3000 (three thousand) registered players for a total of 120 (one hundred and twenty) active clubs and 20 (twenty) territorial associations. In Portugal there are about of 150 official competitions, between national, regional and private tournaments, being most of them valid for FIDE rating. FPX attributes annually around 65 national titles in national competitions, within the rhythms (Classic chess, Rapid chess and Blitz chess) and for all the ages. The function of FPX is the representation of the chess in Portugal, which has the support and supervision of the Sports and Youth Institute of Portugal, within the national sports promotion and development and participation in international organizations.

ECU Extraordinary Assembly- Invitation ARTEMIEV VLADISLAV WINS GIBRALTAR CHESS FESTIVAL 2019 Young rising chess star Artemiev Vladislav (RUS, 2709), reigning European Blitz Chess Champion, became the Winner of one of the strongest open tournaments, Gibraltar Chess Masters with score of 8.5 points out of 10 played rounds.
19 Artemiev had been on the top of the list from the 4th round, but in the round nine and ten maintained the sole leadership with half point ahead of the runner-ups to keep the first place and take a check of The second place went to Karthikeyan Murali (IND, 2570) with score of 8 points, while three players tied for the third place, each with 7.5 points. According to tiebreaks, Vitiugov Nikita (RUS, 2720) came third, Howell David W L (ENG, 2685) was 4th, and Anton Guijarro David (ESP, 2642) ended on the 5th place. Final Rankings
20 The best ranked women player was Chinese Grandmaster Tan Zhongyi (CHN, 2502) who took home prize, scoring 7 points. The second place went to Muzychuk Mariya (UKR, 2540) with 6.5 points and the third place came to reigning Women s World Chess Champion, Ju Wenjun (CHN, 2575).
21 The very strong line-up of this high leveled competition composed: top seeded Vachier Maxime-Lagrave (FRA, 2780), Levon Aronian (ARM, 2767) the Winner of the previous edition of the event, So Wesley (USA, 2765), Yu Yangyi (CHN, 2764), Nakamura Hikaru (USA, 2749), Navara David (CZE, 2738), Naiditsch Arkadij (AZE, 2734), Vitiugov Nikita (RUS, 2720), Le Quang Liem (VIE, 2714), Ivanchuk Vassily (UKR, 2713), Artemiev Vladislav (RUS, 2709), Mamedov Rauf (AZE, 2703), Adams Michael (ENG, 2701) and Matlakov Maxim (RUS, 2700). Traditionally, Tradewise Gibraltar took place at Caleta Hotel, Gibraltar and consisted of five main events: Masters, Challengers A, Challengers B, Amateurs A and Amateurs B competitions, which gathered 600 players coming from 60 federations. Besides the main events, various evening activities were organized, such as Masterclasses with top players, two Blitz events and Battle of Sexes with top women and men players playing against each other.

23 ECU signs Memorandum with the ASEAN Chess Confederation European Chess Union signed a Memorandum of co-operation with the ASEAN Chess Confederation representing 10 federations members in the south- east Asia.

More information about European Chess Union: More information about ASEAN Chess Confederation : VLADIMIR KRAMNIK ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT AS A PROFESSIONAL CHESS PLAYER Former World Chess Champion, Vladimir Kramnik (RUS, 2777) announced his retirement after Tata Steel Masters 2019 tournament, where he participated. Kramnik explained that he has already decided to finish his professional chess career a couple of months ago, but announced it publicly after having played his last tournament.
25 Tata Steel Masters 2019 Vladimir Kramnik got the title of the Classical World Chess Champion after defeating Garry Kasparov in the Match organised in London in 2000, with result without a lost game in the match. He hold this title in period from 2000 till 2007 when he lost from Anand who dethroned him after the reunification match in From 1990 until 2019, Vladimir Kramnik has participated many high leveled professional and elite chess tournaments, and had been a Winner of many of them, such as: World Youth (U18) Chess Championship 1991, PCA Intel Grand Prix 1994, Dortmund (classical) (1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2009, 2011)), Tilburg (Classical) 1997, Wijk aan Zee 1998, Linares (2000, 2003, 2004), Tal Memorial (2007, 2009), President s Cup in Baku (2010), London Chess Classic (2011), Chess World Cup in 2013 etc.
26 Besides his individual chess career, Vladimir Kramnik has won three team gold medals with Russian representation on Chess Olympiads and has won three medals for the individual performance on the Olympiads. One on them was gold medal at Turin Olympiad 2006, when Kramnik achieved overall best performance with score of 7 points out of 10 played games. Kramnik s contribution for chess was unquestionable. He has significantly shaped opening theory in chess by inventing various ideas in countless number of variations. He revived the Catalan opening, with results with the white pieces against the King s Indian defense made Kasparov to drop this opening from his repertoire, caused it to disappear from top-level play from many years, and his usage of the Berlin Defence in his match against Kasparov in 2000 led to a massive increase in popularity of this opening. Kramnik was also the coauthor and author of many chess books, and with his announcement of retirement he pointed intention to focus on projects he was developing during the last months, especially in the field of chess for children and education.
27 Tata Steel Masters 2019 MAGNUS CARLSEN WINS TATA STEEL CHESS 2019 Reigning World Chess Champion, Magnus Carlsen (NOR, 2835), wins the Tata Steel Chess 2019, repeating his success of the last year, to make the record by Winning the Wimbledon of chess for the 7th time.
28 Tata Steel Masters 2019 got the clash of the leaders in the last round, when Magnus Carlsen and Anish Giri (NED, 2783) played for the first place. Carlsen needed a draw in the last round to become the sole Winner of the event, and that is what happened after good defense and slightly better position with black in Sveshnikov variation. Even though Carlsen had opportunity to play for a win, the draw was claimed in the 29th move.
29 Magnus Carlsen reached 9 points, without a lost game, and stood on the throne of the event, while the second place went to Anish Giri with score of 8.5 points. Three players tied for the first place, each with score of 7.5 points: Nepomniachtchi Ian (RUS, 2763), Ding Liren (CHN, 2813) and Anand Viswanathan (IND, 2773), but according to additional criteria, Nepomniachtchi ended on the third place. Around 1800 players were competing on the various tournaments of Tata Steel Amateur tour which gave youngsters the chance to develop and improve their skills in a fun environment.
33 Also, Tata Kids of Steel Chess events were organized with idea to inspire children of all ages while coming face-to-face with their peers.
