1 ITMA ASIA+CITME 2008 expects multinational visitor attendance Organizers of the first-ever combined ITMA ASIA + CITME textile machinery show are aiming for a multinational event with large numbers of trade buyers from the key textile-producing nations across the whole of Asia among the expected 100,000 visitors. The exhibition, to be held in Shanghai from July 27 to 31 this year, will attract a massive audience from China itself, as delegates from other textile manufacturing countries to view latest machinery and technology from more than 1,000 exhibitors. There are already signs of strong interest from visitors throughout the Asian region, as online pre-registrations and group bookings from international textile organizations start to stream in. To attract even more buyers to the show an intensive promotional campaign to spread message to many key countries has already started. We are confident that we will see a very significant level of visitors from all the major Asian countries, says Maria Avery, Secretary General of CEMATEX, and we are keen to develop this aspect of the exhibition to maximize the benefits of the new combined-show concept for both exhibitors and visitors. CEMATEX, the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers, is joint owner of ITMA ASIA + CITME 2008 together with a Chinese consortium made up of CCPIT (Sub-council of Textile Industry, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade), CTMA (China Textile Machinery Association), and CIEC (China International Exhibition Centre Group Corporation). CIEC spokesperson Anne Zheng. ITMA ASIA + CITME 2008 will fill all the halls of the Shanghai New International Exhibition Centre (SNIEC) - more than 126,500 square meters - and with all stand space now sold out, it will be the biggest textile machinery exhibition ever to be staged in China. It will, like the previous ITMA ASIA and CITME shows, cover the full range of textile machinery and accessories, from spinning to finishing. The pan-asia appeal of the exhibition will build on the success of the two previous ITMA ASIA events, in Singapore in 2001 and 2005, as well as the CITME shows, the most recent of which, in 2006, attracted an estimated 10% of its 35,000 visitors from outside the People s Republic of China. Says a CIEC spokesperson Anne Zheng, The multinational visitor profile illustrates the already wide-ranging acknowledgement of the value of the ITMA ASIA + CITME 2008 concept. It is also important to note that pre-registered visitors will enjoy 40% discount off the normal ticket price. Visitor promotion gears up The promotional campaign for ITMA ASIA + CITME 2008 includes a series of international roadshows. Pictured here is a well-attended presentation in India. A series of promotional activities by the show organizer, beginning with a roadshow which takes in eight cities in India: Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Madurai, Mumbai, Surat, Ahmedabad and Ludhiana. This will be followed by marketing campaigns at textile shows in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Indonesia and Vietnam. Supporting press conferences are planned at the Indonesian event, in Bandung, and in Ho Chi Minh City for the Vietnamese show, both during April. Several textile representative bodies have already notified the Organizers that they will bring sizeable delegations. Among these are: Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Administration Board of the Ministry of Trade of Vietnam and the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association. Groups from other countries, such as Thailand and Korea, are expected to join that list shortly. Cinte Techtextil China Cinte Techtextil China, running October 2008 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, is the specialized event showcasing technical textiles and nonwoven products. Now in its eighth year, the show attracts more than half of its exhibitors (320 from 22 countries & regions in 2006) and nearly 20% of its visitors from overseas. Held only once every two years, it is co-organized by leading nonwovens and technical textile industry associations across China. China's demand for technical textiles and nonwoven materials is massive - accounting for half of all spending in this sector in Asia. China's consumption of technical textiles has grown more than 10% a year for two decades and is expected to reach nearly five million tonnes by Consumption of nonwovens has had an equally impressive growth in China: increasing 30% each year and expected to reach nearly two million tonnes by This year, the event will be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, a modern and well-equipped facility with space to expand and access to transportation. The new, more modern venue is in keeping with the growing event. Since 2000, the show's size has grown 283%. The number of visitors attending has grown 170% - with more than 7,000 buyers from 59 countries and regions at the last show. 2 Fairs &Exhibitions tries raises demand - and opportunity for technical textile and nonwoven material manufacturers. Several events are fuelling the demand, including the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, both creating tremendous development in China. China's latest government economic plan is also improving infrastructure by building thousands of kilometres of new rural roads and improving housing, medical treatment and agriculture - thereby raising the demand for technical textiles and nonwovens. Cinte Techtextil China helps buyers navigate through the vast array of products by grouping them into 12 easily recognizable application areas, according to the concept of the Techtextil brand. Those areas are Agrotech, Buildtech, Clothtech, Geotech, Hometech, Indutech, Medtech, Mobiltech, Oekotech, Packtech, Protech and Sporttech. In addition to creating ripe business opportunities, the show offers a variety of educational symposiums and product presentations to help attendees stay abreast of developments in the application areas and to exchange information and research. Interstoff Asia Essential The Home of Cutting-Edge Textiles As part of its major push to become the number one trade fair worldwide for eco-textiles, Interstoff Asia Essential, Spring 2008, will feature a specialist speaker panel from the world s top ecotextile accreditation companies, plus a special stand where they can distribute information to exhibitors and visitors. It will also feature a new eco-labelling system developed in association with one of the world s top textile experts, allowing buyers to more easily understand the myriad materials and processes that make fabrics eco-friendly. A special display forum, Eco-textiles: Fabrics That Care, will house a wide selection of exhibitor fabrics labelled according to the new system. The fair will take place from March 2008 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. New eco-textile labelling system to be implemented from Spring 2008 onwards Eco-friendliness continues to be one of the hottest topics in the modern textile and garment industry, and Interstoff Asia Essential in Hong Kong is one of the only apparel fabric trade fairs in the world to make it the focus of the show. Working closely with Ms Sachiko Inoue, one of Japan s top textile experts who in turn works with some of Japan s leading ecotextile makers, the Interstoff Asia Essential team has created and defined a new labelling system to be implemented at the fair from Spring 2008 onwards, allowing buyers to easily identify and understand the raw materials and processes. The labelling system consists of four categories: Green Label fabrics that are made from certified organic or environmentallyfriendly raw materials, such as organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, corn fibre, soy beans, charcoal, polylactic acid fibre, or paper Brown Label fabrics that have been manufactured by a certified environmentally-friendly process, where usage, contamination and pollution of air, water, noise, and energy sources have been controlled Blue Label fabrics that have been manufactured with a certified environmentally-friendly finishing process, such as through natural and non-toxic dyes, or where remedial measures for water treatment have been taken. Silver Label fabrics that are made from certified organic or environmentallyfriendly raw materials, using an environmentally-friendly manufacturing and finishing process. Exhibitors fabrics displayed in the special forum Eco-textiles: Fabrics That Care will each be labelled using the above system. Exhibitors will need to show proof of certification before their products will be accepted for display, ensuring very high quality. Ms Ornella Bignami will be responsible for the co-ordination and design of the special eco-textiles display area. World-leading eco-textile accreditation companies will be at Interstoff Asia Essential Spring 2008 The certification of textiles and their manufacturing processes as ecologically sound is a growing and complicated sector of the international eco-labelling business. To provide fabric manufacturers and buyers with top-notch information about certification programmes available worldwide, the fair Organizers have confirmed the participation of two worldleading certification companies, Testex Swiss Textile Testing Institute and the Institute for Marketecology. Testex Swiss Textile Testing Institute are the official accreditation company for the Oeko-Tex Standard, first introduced in 1992 to test for harmful substances used in the production of textiles. Today, more than 6,500 textile and clothing manufacturers 80 countries use the Oeko-Tex system to make quality improvements. More than 50,000 certificates have been issued to date for millions of individual products. The Institute for Marketecology (IMO) was the first officially approved certifier for the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The Global Organic Textile Standard is the result of a technical harmonisation procedure between reputed standard organizations. As of October 2006, the International Association of Natural Textile Industry (IVN), the Soil Association (SA), the Organic Trade Association (OTA) and the Japan Organic Cotton Association (JOCA) had all decided to adopted the GOTS. Each of the two companies will give an hour-long presentation on the accreditation programmes they run, applications and certification procedures, and the benefits of certification. They will also each have a stand inside the exhibition halls where visitors can collect information and speak directly with senior company representatives. 34 PTJ February 2008

For more information please visit JIAM 2008 Mr. Shogo Kondo, Chairman of JIAM 2008 Executive Committee and other members of the JIAM organizing committee held a press conference to highlight the upcoming JIAM exhibition on the 13 to 16 of May The Chairman said, First time held out of Japan, 2008 JIAM executive committees, steering committee and the secretariat have been earnestly preparing for it in Singapore. As a result of the high exhibition sales activity during the autumn, as at December 7, 2007, we have more than 150 companies from 84 countries taking up 1,109 booths. Out of the 1,109 booths, 670 booths are from Japan and the remaining are from other countries. We have covered almost all the main domestic (Japanese) companies when we are planning the "JETRO pavilion" by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). For "JASMA pavilion", we have achieved about 90% of the target that we have set for ourselves. On the other hand, in the exhibition sales activities for international exhibitors (other than Japan), we have an increase of about 4 times the number of international exhibitors as compared to JIAM 2005 (only 12.5% increase during JIAM 2005). JIAM 2008 will bring together several National Pavilions, there are "CSMA pavilion" China Sewing Machine Association (CSMA) and group exhibition from "Guangdong pavilion" (Guangdong Sewing Equipment Chamber of Commerce), "VDMA pavilion" (German Garment and Leather Technology Association (VDMA), "SMTAS pavilion" Sewing Machines Trade Association Singapore (SMTAS), "Taiwan pavilion "Taipei Sewing Machines Association (TSMA) and "Korea pavilion" Korea Sewing Machinery Industrial Association (KOSMIA). The chairman also appreciated the special cooperation and support from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) in setting up "JETRO pavilion" for the first time and also the kind support from Singapore Tourism Board (STB). In addition, both German Garment and Leather Technology Association (VDMA) and China Sewing Machine Association (CSMA) are also appreciated for their 36 PTJ February 2008

5 special support at JIAM 2008 Singapore for the first time which includes taking up booth space at the event. With the significant global changes in the textile and apparel industry, in particular, the shift of manufacturing activities to meet the challenges of the competitive global market place, Asia alone accounts for more than 70% of the global production quantity. In addition, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Vietnam and Cambodia, the sewing industry of Southern Asia / the Southeast Asia, has shown remarkable growth. In the U.S. market, the total import for fiber and clothing in 2006 increased by 4.6% as compared with the previous year (US$93,300,000,000), although the growth rate is less than the previous year. China has a share increase of 29% (US$27,100,000,000) and India increase steadily with 9.0%. Although NAFTA countries, the Caribbean coast countries of clothing supplies, Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong have a drop in their export amount last year (primarily taken by U.S.), Asian new fiber export countries such as Vietnam (17.8% increase), Bangladesh (22.0%), Pakistani (11.9% increase), Cambodia (24.6% increase), Philippines (8.5% increase) and Indonesia (26.6% increase) has increased their export to U.S. According to these facts, we easily can analyze that there is a shift to new export countries last year. The import figures in EU are approximately similar to the U.S. The import of fiber and clothing in 2006 in EU is US$101,900,000,000, a 12% increase during the same period last year. China maintains at US$30,000,000,000 (29% share) with a 14% increase and an overwhelming improvement in position, and India (15% increase), Bangladesh (31% increase), Pakistan (14% increase), Indonesia (19% increase), Sri Lanka (22% increase), Vietnam (49% increase) and Cambodia (18% increase). All the countries have increased as compared with last year accept for the traditional Asian countries that do import and export to EU remain unchanged - such as Morocco, Tunisia and Rumania. Fiber and clothing total import to U.S. (from January to July, 2007) has a ratio of 5.6% increase in the same period compared with last year, and U.S. import from China shows 32.2% increase and its still in high growth status. Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Cambodia also have record high growth rate. As for the fiber and clothing total import to EU (27 countries) there is an increase during the same period (from January to June, 2007) of the previous year (ratio 14%), China growth rate increased by 32%. India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh also record high growth. The export of Japanese industrial sewing machines from January to June in 2007 to Singapore (site of JIAM 2008) takes about 25% followed by Hong Kong (21.5%), China (16.4%), Vietnam (6.8%), America (5.9%), the Netherlands (3.7%), India (3.0%), Turkey (2.9%), Korea (1.9%) and Germany (1.8%). In the export situation of industrial sewing machines in Singapore, it reaches at 35% of Singapore and around countries, and it is 75% in the Asian whole. We believe that there is wonderful growth rate of the new fiber export country. "JIAM 2008" will be the center of the new fiber export activities, and with easy access from every country into Singapore, the geographical advantage serve well for such a "global change of the economic structure". The holding of JIAM 2008 is aimed at contributing to the development of the fiber and sewing industry. It is also a place to introduce sewing that made use of world advanced technology-related machinery to the sewing factories and the apparel manufacturers of these countries. Sewing Machinery business is in the globalization stage and it is hard to differentiate between companies only in terms of cost. The new fiber export countries require Innovation" which is the means to differentiate themselves. Manufacturers from Japan and around the world will exhibit at JIAM 2008 because this is the place to show "the world most advanced technology". For all exhibitors, one can expect good exhibition exposure not only in building your corporate image but also for brand penetration. This will be a perfect business opportunity for your company. In addition, we are expecting JIAM 2008 to be the place for global international exchange and contribute to the expansion of the derivation effect at the same time. We also expect positive participation as we mentioned some time ago and would like all manufacturers to participate if you have not done so. JASMA chose Singapore to hold JIAM 2008 because its a great meeting place between Asian production region and global market. We will continue to promote JIAM 2008 to potential exhibitors and at the same time develop a strong visitor promotion campaign. The Japanese apparel and sewing industry require cooperation, reinforcement and diversification from the sewing companies in the production district. JIAM 2008 to be held in Singapore because this is the place to find out solution for any problems, meeting with business partners and also opportunity to find out the new solution! "JIAM 2008 Singapore" is the bridge between international business opportunities for the apparel industry. We are expecting many quality visitors from all over the world. PTJ February
