3 At 07 kilometers from the center of the Adwa town on the main road to Axum 1006 Kms from Addis Ababa and 233 Kms from Mekelle the capital of Tigray region of Ethiopia, Almeda Textile Plc is standing proudly in the middle of beautiful mountainous area. There is an airport capable of handling small planes & fakers at Axum 20 kilometers from the mill site. Apart from another alternative, the factory is directly linked with the main seaport of Djibouti for import /export incidentals. The company belongs to EFFORT Group (Endowment Fund for Re-habilitation of Tigray), which is engaged in the following fields; Agriculture and agro processing Construction and Engineering Manufacturing ( Textile, Leather, Ceramics, Pharmaceuticals, etc) Mining, and Trade and Services. YEAR OF ESTABLISHEMENT In 1994 G.C Unionmatex and Almeda team have elaborated the technical and technological concept of the project thoroughly. Installation of the machinery and utilities was finalized in 1998 G.C. In middle of 1998 yarn and gray cloth were produced in the factory After a certain delay in the start up of the processing department and the final optimization, the factory started complete work in October 1999 G.C. 8 TECHNOLOGY & MACHINERY Having selected Rolls-Royce machinery in the textile technology in both mills, the design capacity is capable to produce a variety of product & very flexible in changing to any type of textile yarn, fabric & made-ups in 100% cotton & man made fibers of blends of any ratio. The factory has designed to process carded, combed, waxed & twisted yarn in both ring & open-end- spinning system up to NE 60 & 30 counts respectively. This allows the factory to weave first class shirting & poplins on the Dobby designs in different stripes & colures, on the best weaving glooms. Similarly, in the garment & knitwear the mill is designed to manufacture different kinds of made-ups in the higher value added sector. Textile processing is the process which gives color to textile material the color given to the textile material by dyeing, bleaching and printing processes is responsible for the attractiveness of the textiles. Processing plays a great role in value adding by products which contributes maximizes profit in Almeda Textile Plc. the department can produce up to 800,000 meters per month. On the garment side, knit fabrics of various weights as well as dyed fabrics can be converted in to value added articles for which all the machinery are present at the same location.
