1 Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences University of Adelaide s, Indicators and the EU Sector Qualifications Frameworks for Humanities and Social Sciences University of Adelaide 1. Knowledge and understanding of the content and techniques of a chosen discipline at advanced levels that are internationally recognised. a. understanding of a broad and coherent body of knowledge including concepts, theories and methodologies. Have knowledge and a contextualised understanding of the essential primary data relevant to the academic field Have knowledge of the intellectual bases and ethical aspects of the humanities and of the roles that the graduate can take in society Broad and integrated knowledge and comprehension of the interdisciplinary background of the field of studies or practice in social sciences. b. in-depth knowledge in one or more including major scholars, concepts, techniques, theories, relevant approaches to research, key resources, current debates and research issues. Be aware of the dialogic nature of the humanities and of how their practitioners position themselves with respect to key areas of academic debate and issues in society. Have knowledge of the main means of communication used to convey information and perspectives in the area of the humanities, in both academic and broader public contexts Have knowledge and understanding of a range of analytical and methodological approaches relevant to the field Advanced theoretical knowledge of the individual and society. Advanced knowledge of group dynamics and their internal (power, influence, communication etc.) and external (environment) interrelations. Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of processes of social changes and especially those relevant to practice. understanding of the processes of the development of power relationships and diversity in society
2 c. understanding of the interdisciplinary nature of scholarship Be aware of the intellectual underpinnings and contexts of the relevant subject areas and their relationships to other fields of study understanding of ethical principles. Broad and integrated knowledge and comprehension of the interdisciplinary background of the field of studies or practice in social sciences. 2. The ability to locate, analyse, evaluate and synthesise information from a wide variety of sources in a planned and timely manner. a. capacity to determine the need for particular information, the skills to identify its source and to access it. b. demonstrate a rigorous approach to enquiry including the ability to analyse, synthesise and evaluate information on the basis of merit, relevance, currency and significance within identified timeframes Be able to identify, select and manage, with guidance, information from a variety of sources 3. An ability to apply effective, creative and innovative solutions, both independently and cooperatively, to current and future problems a. ability to analyse, synthesise, evaluate and generate ideas in the discipline Be able to use disciplinary knowledge to understand and interpret contemporary societal challenges Be able to approach issues with curiosity, creativity and critical awareness. b. capacity to recognise the nature of problems and questions including their dimensions, boundaries and assumptions Be able to draw on knowledge of the relevant field to identify and define, with guidance, significant problems and areas of enquiry with respect to social and cultural interaction using basic theories and concepts c. ability to work both independently and cooperatively to conceptualise discipline-based problems and questions, to identify appropriate Be able to identify and apply a range of appropriate critical and methodological approaches Develops creative solutions to abstract problems.

Discusses information, ideas, problems and solutions with experts and laymen Collects, evaluates and interprets relevant information. c. capacity to contribute productively to group-based outcomes 5. A proficiency in the appropriate use of contemporary technologies a. knowledge of the range of available technologies and appreciation of their strengths and limitations b. ability to use relevant technologies to achieve specified ends within a discipline context Be able to use ICT and video/audio means to communicate 6. A commitment to continuous learning and the capacity to maintain intellectual curiosity throughout life. a. commitment to an academically rigorous approach to learning including intellectual honesty and respect.
