5 Presenter Bis Katie-Lyn Bunney Prgram Crdinatr, Mnarchs in the Classrm University f Minnesta Katie-Lyn Bunney graduated frm the University f Minnesta in 2008 with a degree in Envirnmental Sciences Plicy and Management. Since then, she has wrked as an infrmal educatr at the Bell Museum f Natural Histry, nature centers, the Minneaplis Park and Recreatin Bard, Dakta Cunty Parks, and mst recently at Cm Park Z and Cnservatry where she was als the Camp Directr. She serves n the bard fr the Minnesta Assciatin fr Envirnmental Educatin, a vlunteer-run rganizatin fr prmting and advcating fr envirnmental educatin in Minnesta. As prgram crdinatr fr the Mnarch Lab, Ms. Bunney enjys the pprtunity t wrk with s many peple devted t and interested in prmting cnservatin and educatin. She lves having such an integral rle in prviding them with the tls and skills they are seeking. De Cansler Adjunct Teacher Trainer, Mnarchs in the Classrm University f Minnesta De Cansler taught seventh grade science at Willw Creek Middle Schl in Rchester, Minnesta fr mre than 30 years. She emplyed mnarchs as a fcal rganism in her classrm fr mre than 20 years, using the butterflies t teach bservatin skills, jurnaling, micrscpe use, technical drawing, metric measurement, data cllectin, graphing, experimental design, eclgy, cnservatin, and myriad ther cntent and prcess tpics f a standard seventh grade life science curse. Each f her students raised a mnarch frm an egg they received the secnd day f schl. Althugh Ms. Cansler cntinues t be a lifelng learner, classrm vlunteer, and teacher/cnsultant, she is delighted t reprt that she has fficially retired as f June 15, Jim O Leary Senir Scientist Maryland Science Center Serving the Maryland Science Center in numerus functins fr mre than 30 years, Jim O Leary serves as MSC liaisn t large-frmat (IMAX) film prducers and distributrs. He currently versees a $3 millin grant frm the Natinal Science Fundatin fr the prductin and educatinal utreach fr the IMAX film Flight f the Butterflies 3D. He was C-Executive Prducer f the IMAX film Dinsaurs Alive 3D 5
6 and managed a $1.95 millin NSF grant that helped fund The Human Bdy IMAX film, all f which have played in mre than 125 large-frmat theaters wrldwide. He is C-Executive Prducer f Star Spangled Banner: Anthem f Liberty, a large-frmat film currently in prductin celebrating the 2014 bicentennial f the battle f Ft. McHenry and the writing f the Star Spangled Banner. He has als received a number f NASA and NOAA infrmal educatin grants and was awarded the NASA Excellence in Outreach Award. Maureen Sullivan Supervisr f Schl Prgrams Maryland Science Center Maureen Sullivan has spent mre than 35 years as an envirnmental educatr, starting at a summer camp in central Ontari where the mnarchs visited each summer, then as a naturalist in Ohi and Natinal Park Service ranger in Virginia and Philadelphia cllecting larvae t rear and teach schl children and park visitrs their life cycle and incredible endurance f these incredible butterflies. She was the curriculum specialist fr Envirnmental Science fr the Daytn, Ohi schls fr 11years where many hundreds f butterflies were raised t teach thusands f city students. She cntinues her career ding prgramming with schls that visit the Maryland Science Center. Elisabeth Yung-Isebrand Crdinatr, Schlyard Eclgy Explratins, Mnarchs in the Classrm University f Minnesta Elisabeth Yung-Isebrand began wrking part-time at the University f Minnesta with Dr. Karen Oberhauser and Mnarchs in the Classrm (MITC) as prgram crdinatr in The cmbinatin f scientists and teachers wrking tgether t increase student achievement in science expsed her t the pwerful impact mnarchs, and ther lcal rganisms, have n mtivating students t ask questins and investigate the natural wrld. In the spring f 2005 she became the cmmunity prgram specialist fr the new initiative Schlyard Eclgy Explratins. This initiative prvides training, garden grants and curriculum fr teachers t learn abut science and the prcess f science by studying the plants and animals in their schlyard. She cmpleted her M.Ed. in envirnmental educatin at the University f Minnesta in
