2 PRESENTATION Dear colleagues, As it has being said before, the world has changed so much over the last few years, so we and our companies also have to adapt quickly to these changes to survive. The demolition industry is about handling the space change, taking care of the needs and/or requirements of the customer to leave an empty space. To do so, we need to work together with other industries so deeply connected to the demolition, as part of what is now called deconstruction: hazardous waste decontamination, concrete sawing and drilling, dismantling, decommissioning, demolition, preparation for recycling, recycling, These activities are all connected, being ourselves (the demolition industry) an important actor to all of them. EDA is inviting all these industries to celebrate together an open conference and debate sessions about our work together, called Deconstruction forum. 3 European Demolition Association, EDA The European Demolition Association, EDA, was founded in 1978 and is the leading platform for national demolition associations, demolition contractors and suppliers. EDA organizes every year a few activities to get together the demolition industry from all over Europe. The most important one is the Annual Convention, an annual meeting that includes technical part with presentations about key topics and optional leisure activities. International Association of Concrete Drillers and Sawers, IACDS The International Association of Concrete Drillers & Sawers, IACDS, is an organization of professional drilling and sawing Associations from the concrete construction and renovation industry around the globe. IACDS mission is to provide an international union with the cooperation of trade Associations to support and promote the development of professional drilling and sawing contractors and their methods. European Decontamination Institute, EDI The European Decontamination Institute, EDI, is a European platform for national decontamination associations, decontamination contractors and suppliers. The main objectives of the EDI are to look after and protect the interests of the decontamination industry in Europe; to set and promote European standards on decontamination techniques and to get involved in improving the legislation concerning hazardous waste. Fédération Internationale du Recyclage, FIR The Fédération Internationale du Recyclage, FIR, is the representative of the recycling industry of Construction & Demolition Waste (C&DW). It also represents the recycling industry of Incinerator Bottom Ash. FIR s goals are to achieve high quality recycling in all parts of Europe and to be a platform for exchange of knowledge and expertise. FIR is involved in all relevant European developments related to these issues and has a good network amongst European institutes and other stakeholders. Institute of Demolition Engineers The Institute of Demolition Engineers (IDE) exists to promote and foster the science of demolition engineering. The Institute is an organisation committed to continuing professional development and has its own scheme which is mandatory for all active members. It also provides a forum where colleagues may exchange ideas and meet others with allied interests.
