11 Headquarters & Branch Office Our Headquarter in UPTEC was voted 'Building of the Year 2011' in a competition hosted by ArchDaily.com and provides the most inspiring environment to our team! The project was once again awarded in 2016, as the winner of the Green GOOD DESIGN Award; Since July 2015, Fraunhofer AICOS has expanded to Lisbon with the creation of a branch office in the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research; The new branch office allows to expand capacity of hosting additional researchers, higher integration with scientific organizations and proximity to industry clients. 11

15 Strategic Research Agenda ICT4D ICT4D Information and Communication Technologies for Development Investigation of user demands for mobile ICT solutions in the fields of agriculture, urban micro enterprises, m-health and e-government and their potential socioeconomic impact in developing countries; Joint development of locally relevant solutions which might get incubated into new businesses; Knowledge transfer to ensure a sustainable benefit for an independent and uprising ICT industry in the partner countries; Enabling long-term partnerships between the developing countries and the European partners. 15

17 Strategic Research Agenda Competence Centres In 2013 Fraunhofer AICOS started to develop two Competence Centres in order to build interdisciplinary teams working on: Fall and Activity Monitoring FCC; Information and Communication Technologies for Development ICT4DCC. In 2015 we revised the activity focus to follow the next generation goals and developed the project Deus ex Machina DeM: 6 Portuguese research partners involved, all evaluated as excellent or very good : CINTESIS and CPUP (UP); ALGORITMI and 2C2T (UM); CIDESD and CITAB (UTAD). DeM extends the scope of the FCC and ICT4DCC to contexts beyond human activities and, at the same time, provides mobile interfaces for IoT and Big Data solutions. 17
18 Strategic Research Agenda DeM: EITCC and C3 Eyes of Internet of Things Competence Centre EITCC Focuses on the development of an infrastructure to sense environments in multiple dimensions, fusing of sources, and to provide a holistic understanding of the user and its environment. Companion Competence Centre C3 Companions are specialized frontends of big machines (IoT / Big Data solutions) that serve human users in getting things done. Focuses on the creation of real working prototypes built on top of information provided by the fused data originating from the technology developed in the EITCC. 18

FhP Challenge Tech Transfer Deadlines for st Round Idea Submission period: 1 st of September to 1 st of October; Announcement of the 1st round results: 18 th of October. 2 nd Round Closing Event: 26th of October; Public presentation of the best 1 st round results (finalists) and definition of 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd places in each category (Projects within the area of AAL and Projects within the area of ICT4D. 23

FhP Challenge Tech Transfer Overview The Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge Tech Transfer Award is a new award created in 2017, included in the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge main contest; The Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge is presently in its 8 th Edition; In the total, the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge has received circa 300 individual applications (MSc and PhD), from several Portuguese Higher Education Institutions. 24
