10 Social Sciences and Cultural Studies 10
11 Faculty of Social sciences and cultural studies Study programme: Culture, Aesthetics, Media, Music Cities, Culture and Design Münsterstraße 156, Building. 3, Room March 30 March 2016 from 10:00 17:00 h The course will explore how design influences the city, its planning, and the life of its inhabitants. We will introduce some major theoretical points about creative industries, art, economy, and urban space as well as examine some ad hoc cases. Class projects encourage students to think critically about the modes and functions of design in the urban context. The main themes of the course are: Can urban planning be understood as a form of design? What are its main features? What do we understand with the term designscape? How do design products communicate certain places and link themselves to certain cities? Where is the place in the product? Why do certain creative industries originate in certain places? How can design influence or shape the life of city inhabitants? How can the design become sustainable and inclusive? The course focuses primarily on European Cities such as Düsseldorf and Helsinki. The similarities and differences with other European and extra-european cities will also be examined together with the flow of urban images between peripheries and centres. Information: Course will be held in English! Eine Prüfungsleistung in deutscher Sprache ist möglich. 11
12 Study programme: Number of Information: Social Work/Social Pedagogy The Solution Focus in Training, Coaching and Burnout-Prevention Münsterstraße 156, building 3, room Wednesday, 9:00 12:30 h, start: 06/04. The solution focused counseling model created by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg has inspired trainer and coachs all over the world. In this course we will try out models of solution focused training and coaching and will have a look how we can use the solution focused model for burnout prevention. Number of 5 This course is in English, but you can do your counseling, teaching and coaching sessions in another language, too, if you find people in the course who speak your language.
