OUTLINE TRL evolution: considerations and trends Definition of Conceptual and Reference models 2

OUTLINE TRL evolution: considerations and trends Definition of Conceptual and Reference models 3

GRA LWC: Technology maturation plan Main technologies as advanced metallic materials, composites and sensors for SHM development from TRL3 up TRL5 through Building Block Approach to assess the Technology Readiness Level. 1 st Down Selection Criteria 1. Specific property improvement 2. Manufacturability for 2 nd Down Selection Schedule 3. Weight / Specific property 2 nd Down Selection Criteria 1. Requirements compliance 2. Weight Final Assessment for Full Scale Demonstrators application 4

GRA LNC: Technology maturation plan 1 st Step - TRL 3 to TRL 4 ( ) Technologies development, assessment and integration at A/C level on a multi-disciplinary basis (aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, aeroacoustics, State predictor structures, systems) through high-fidelity CFD/CAA/CSM methods and CAD/CAE virtual modelling and, when applicable, Low pass filter Control Law Adaptive Law L1 Adaptive Controller d a + - technologies validation through WT tests and experiments on small mechanical prototypes. d e Actuator Model d a,eff d e,eff Aircraft Aeroelastic Model a probe FeedForward Adaptive Controller 2 nd Step - TRL 4 to TRL 5 ( ) Technologies demonstrations in a realistic experimental environment, through large/full-scale WT models, full-scale mechanical prototypes, ground test rigs. 5

The preparation phase ( middle 2011) during which a down selection was performed to reach a manageable number of candidate technologies (1 st down selection) and where definitions of requirements and architectures were developed. Large laminar flow extent - L/D = 25 High Energy Impact Test on a advanced Composite -1 for the 1 st Down Selection TAI test Set-up and inspected TAI samples. NLF Wing Transonic Design Optical fibre surface application Pre-feasibility studies for the in Flight Demonstration of Electrical ECS performances and integration. 6

The technology development phase ( ), where down-selected technologies (2 nd down selection) were developed and matured to be integrated on ground and flight demonstrators defined. Test article shipped to Le Bourget Air Show 2013 New Composite panel for Fuselage: Undamaged static compression. Composite + Damping Veil panels. First curved cobonded skin with Omega stringers, damping veil ply manufactured and with C shape frame segments assembled. SACM FLAP TEST ARTICLE Morphing Flap: Mechanical Tests on prototypes of SACM (Smart Actuated Compliant Mechanism). GRA Flight Simulator: First release of Green FMS E_ECS for Flight demo: E-ECS pack CFD/CAA based low-noise design. 7

OUTLINE TRL evolution: considerations and trends Definition of Conceptual and Reference models 8

TRL evolution: considerations and trends 9

TRL evolution: considerations and trends Starting from 85 enabling/specific technologies beyond state-of-art, and after two down selections, 54 of these technologies were developed to increase their maturity level (4-5), selected and integrated to Flight Simulator, Wind Tunnel Test Demos and Ground & Flight Demonstrators to achieve a maturity level (5-6) 10

OUTLINE TRL evolution: considerations and trends Definition of Conceptual and Reference Aircraft 11

Definition of Conceptual and Reference Aircraft GRA Conceptual and Reference Aircraft The Environmental Improvement of the Technologies at A/C level, developed inside GRA ITD is relative to the comparison between the Green and Reference/Baseline A/C for each seats class. Conceptual A/C represents the year 2020 Clean Sky concept aircraft built up with the technologies coming from the results of GRA ITD developments. For each seats category, they are called: TP , for 90 pax GTF , for 130 pax 12

Definition of Conceptual and Reference Aircraft Reference/Baseline A/C represents the A/C built up with technologies used in the A/C of 2000 year, out of Clean Sky technologies. In detail: TP , for 90 pax TF , for 130 pax Three main design Loop activities were developed in collaboration with the CS JU Engine Members: Safran Aircraft Engine SAS (former Snecma), Rolls Royce and MTU (coordination between GRA and SAGE ITD), in order to define the engine requirements for the Green Regional Aircraft configurations. 13

Definition of Conceptual and Reference Aircraft For the assessment of the Technology Evaluator, GRA through the NC domain, provided Green Regional Aircraft Simulation Models (GRASM) for the Reference A/C and Concept A/C. 14
