5 An overview of my research activities The focus of this theme is on improvements of both products (including product service systems) and processes (product development and innovation) through developing an understanding of the processes with close industrial or public sector collaboration. This understanding forms the underpinning of tools and methods developed to support industry. The group takes a multidisciplinary approach including computer science, engineering, and innovation management to tackle research projects. The group also contributes to the development of rigorous research methods

Task 6.4: Develop a conceptual model for global engineering service operations supported by appropriate modelling techniques and software architectures. Task 4.3: Identify key issues relevant to major technological shifts focusing on digitisation and novel design methods Task 6.3: Identify generic and specific issues from Task 6.1 & Task 6.2 through cross-case analysis, and propose a conceptual model to address the issues. Task 8.1: Explore emerging trends and key challenges of ICT applications in high value engineering areas through exploratory case studies in Europe and China.

9 My wish-list for participating Over and above three Strategic Objectives, I am keen to see the following results of endeavour: Advance knowledge of the current understanding of High value engineering areas, focusing upon the front end: innovation and design, development: - Including deep understanding of current trends and proposal of new tools to support global prodcut development - Development of appropriate methodologies - Gaining a systematic view of the emerging trends, main opportunities and key challenges of global engineering networks. Open the door to new collobarations and further research areas - Secure new funding - A book publication - Joint journal articles - 9 -

10 My contribution to the three objectives SO1: Increasing awareness of the importance and potential value of engineering and networking within the community of high value engineering research. Writing/editing positioning papers/reports Introducing research in relevant events Developing external links with a broader scope of research/industrial organisations SO2: Providing a supportive environment for building collaborative research projects focusing on high value engineering capabilities and novel concepts of operations. Facilitating communication between research partners Exploring synergies among work packages and research themes Encouraging methodology discussions/developments for high value engineering networks in a long ran SO3: Establishing a framework for global network collaborations in high value engineering areas. Integrating research outcomes with an accessible format Establishing the HVEN consortium involving a broader scope of researchers and practitioners Securing continuing researching funding around the main themes of HVEN
