5 S&T - Innovation Finmeccanica aim for continuous technological progress, through the creation and implementation of cutting-edge solutions. Innovation in Finmeccanica leverages upon partnership with key Research and Technology stakeholders (i.e. universities and research centers). More than people involved in Research & Development/Design & Development activities. More than 50% of total 2011 revenues come from new products/capabilities developed over the last 5 years. 80% of Research & Development/Design & Development activities spending is concentrated in the three strategic pillars (Aeronautics, Helicopters, Defence and Security Electronics). In eight years, the Finmeccanica Innovation Award has involved over 19,000 people for approx. 6,500 innovative ideas. - Patent Portfolio +36% from Cooperation with more than 110 universities worldwide - Finmeccanica in 2011 invested about 12% of revenues in R&D R&D EMPLOYEES R&D SPENDING DESIGN/ENGINEER EMPLOYEES

8 Some Results: Corporate Projects 27 projects co-funded by Finmeccanica since 2006 to date (16 completed, 8 running, 3 launched in 2011) Focus on: emerging technologies, precompetitive innovation, development of common product building blocks and processes Total investments in the period : 25 M, of which 4,2 M (ca 17% average) funded by Finmeccanica Corporate Success cases (key examples i.e. implemented into products or seeds for follow on projects funded by external entities for more than 40 M, ): Compact Receiver (compact digital radar receiver, common building block for land, naval, airborne e space applications) FHINX (a new Operating System Linux distribution, available and built on the specific requirements of FNM companies) Flexible Security Vehicle (FSV) (remotely piloted vehicle for multirole search & rescue) Engineering processes for NIILS (Normativa interforze for Integrated Logistic Support.)
