1 Y10 Art at Ark Elvin Academy Curriculum: Still Life Project followed by Fantasy and Strange. Assessment SPR Effective revision: -Recording from observation - students should practice regularly by drawing man-made objects from observation at least once a week

2 Exercise 1: In the space below practise a tonal ladder that is gradually becoming darker because of the pencil pressure. Example Pencil Example Pen Drawing Techniques: Envision the negative spaces Envision the positive spaces

3 Exercise 2a: Copy this image showing the negative or positive spaces only. No details. Exercise 2b: Copy this image with pencil. Then add shading. Remember to used curved hand gestures and a variety of pencil pressures for the object to look three dimensional and realistic. Stretch Task: The resource you have just drawn from is it primary or secondary?...

4 Exercise 3: Record effectively and accurately tone from a secondary resources using the grid method. Pencil only. Tip: Cover the sections of the grid that you are not drawing. The reason for this is so nothing else is distracting you.

5 Exercise 4: In a full sentence define: Composition in Art.... In Art and Photography there are several types of compositions: The basic principle behind the rule of thirds is to imagine breaking an image down into thirds (both horizontally and vertically) so that you have 9 parts. The theory is that if you place points of interest in the intersections or along the lines that your photo becomes more balanced and will enable a viewer of the image to interact with it more naturally. Leading lines help lead the viewer through the image and focus attention on important elements. Anything from paths, walls or patterns can be used as leading lines. Exercise 5: The church tower in the distance is obviously much bigger than the lamppost in real life. It appears smaller in the photograph as it is far away. 6 Exercise 6: 1a. Compose your own still life composition using fruit and vegetables. You could add object that represent your theme. 1b. Take a photograph of your composition from three different angles 2c. Remember: You need to be recording from observation therefore you need to be drawing exactly what you see. Start with the lightest tones and use the side of the pencil. 8 Exercise 8: If I were to draw an object that is in front of me, do you think it is a primary or secondary resource?.. What if I was to take a photograph of this object and then draw the photograph? Would that still be a primary resource?... Exercise 9: Using a pencil enlarge this still life composition. Refer to the drawing techniques that you learnt in the beginning of this revision booklet. 11 Exercise 11: Create your own Natural Forms Collage. 1. Carefully select images from a magazine that relate to your theme Natural Forms 2. Neatly cut these images (use this video to support your cutting skills) 3. Before gluing pre plan your layout. Juxtapose images together (these videos have some ideas to inspire you) Collage Art Making a collage Landscape The definition of Juxtapose is when you place images close together for contrasting effect. Potential Ideas - Challenge yourself to come up with something better.

13 Exercise 12: Using pencils draw your collage in the space below. Complete with colouring pencils. Success Criteria: Is everything in the collect location? Are the objects recognisable (accurate)? Correct proportions? Is the work neat? Have you selected the correct shades of colour and applied them effectively?

14 Exercise 13: 1. Use your phone to photograph something that represents your theme Natural Forms. It could be fruit, vegetable, nature 2. Distort the image with at least two different filters. For example: Fisheye filter and a colour filter. 3. Print the images 4. Glue them in the box below 5. Then draw them with pencil and colouring pencils.
