This brush is specially designed for use with the stylus pressure-sensitivity and does not work with your finger. SketchBook Ink supports pressure sensitivity for the following 3rd party styli: Adonit Jot Touch TenOne Pogo Note This option appears only if supported by your device. Flurry - This feature provides valuable anonymous information on how our users use SketchBook Ink and the types of devices being used. General bug fixes
Tips Before You Begin SketchBook Ink is recommended for 2nd and 3rd generation ipad users. To run it on 1st generation ipads, see the Guidelines for 1st generation ipads on page 12. Here are some tips to help you before you start sketching: Start with background elements and build up your image. To load an image as a background, see Import images on page 11. Undo is your best friend. Use it instead of the eraser strokes to remove strokes. Your image will render faster for this. See Editing on page 10. Use the Tour Guide to quickly refresh yourself with features found in Ink. Tap to hide the UI and have full use of the canvas. See Hide the UI on page 5. Tap-hold to get the Color Picker and quickly grab and change your brush color. See Capturing a color on page 7. Zoom in to focus in on an area and add detail. Keep in mind, fine sub-pixel detail may not be visible depending on the resolution of your output image. See Sub-pixel brushes on page 8 and Navigating on page 5. Render times are determined by the number of strokes and the export size. See Selecting an export resolution on page 16.
Getting Started Create a canvas Tap and select New Canvas. Select the orientation. Navigating While drawing, use two fingers to zoom in/out and pan around. The view sharpens automatically, as SketchBook Ink dynamically renders and enhances your drawing. To see your full image, tap. Save your work or variations of it as a PNG to your Photo Library using the Gallery. Hide the UI Tap to hide the interface as you sketch. Tap again to display it.
Color Customize the color palette Current color Saturation and luminance Hue Selecting a color Capturing a color Change RGB and HSB Customize the color palette Tap-hold a color from the palette to open the Color Editor and create a color. Tap the canvas.
Selecting a color Do either of the following: Tap the Color puck to access the Color Editor. Tap a color in the Color Palette to select it. Swipe up or down within the palette to access additional colors. Capturing a color Do either of the following: Tap-hold to get. Drag your finger so the bull s-eye is over the color you want. Within the Color Editor, tap to capture a color on from your canvas. Change RGB and HSB Create a color by setting RGB and HSB values. Tap the HSB to flip to the RGB panel. Tap the RGB to flip to the HSB panel. Tap-drag the sliders to set a value.
Brushes Selecting a brush Selecting a brush Tap a brush in the Brush Palette. Resizing a brush After selecting a brush, use the slider to set brush size. Sub-pixel brushes Use sub-pixel sized brushes to create fine detailed on high-resolution canvases. These strokes will only be visible on your ipad when zoomed in close enough. Erase Sub-pixel brush zoomed in Sub-pixel brush zoomed out
3rd party stylus support SketchBook Ink supports pressure sensitivity for the following 3rd party styli: Adonit Jot Touch TenOne Pogo Pressure will only work with brushes that have differing Min/Max settings for Radius and/or Opacity. The pressure applied to the stylus affects the opacity of a brush stroke. IMPORTANT Each manufacturer s product will deliver a differing feel and result. Realize that using a 3rd party accessory will affect your experience with SketchBook Ink. Due to the variety of devices, we cannot provide technical support. 1. Ensure that your stylus is set up as specified by the manufacturer s documentation before launching the app. 2. Next, enable 3rd Party Pen Connection in the preferences and select your stylus from the list. IMPORTANT If your tablet enters sleep mode or any app crashes, reinitialize your connection and restart SketchBook Ink to continue sketching with the stylus. Pressure-sensitive brush for Android stylus users Once your device s stylus is recognized by SketchBook Ink, the pressure-sensitive brush appears at the top of the Brush Palette. This brush is specially designed for use with the stylus pressure-sensitivity and does not work with your finger.
Editing During the different stages of creation, try these tools for editing your work: Undo You want to remove the last stroke(s). In the toolbar, tap. Clear Layer You want to remove everything from a layer. In the Layer Editor, tap. New Canvas You want to start over and have a clean canvas. In the toolbar, tap, then. Erase You re almost finished and want to refine your work, removing bits, sculpting it. In the Brush Palette, tap or. Revert You made changes to a previously saved sketch and now you want to undo everything and go back to the original. In the toolbar, tap, then. Duplicate Canvas You want to save a copy of your file in the Gallery and create a duplicate to continue working on. In the toolbar, tap, then.
Layers Hide a layer Layer name Select a layer Reorder layers Import images Set a background color Change layer transparency Delete a layer Add a layer Clear a layer Tap to access the Layer Editor. 13 Reorder layers Next to the layer you want to move, tap and drag the layer to change its position. To make a layer appear in front of another, move it above another. To make a layer appear behind another, move it below another. Delete a layer Remove layers to make room for new ones by tapping the layer,, then Delete.
Gallery Return to the canvas Select a file Duplicate an image Create a canvas or save your work Delete a file Tap to access the Gallery and do the following: Return to the canvas Tap. Select a file Tap a sketch to select it. Tap to load it. Create a canvas or save your work Tap. Duplicate an image Tap a sketch, then tap. Also, use this to create variations of your work. Delete a file Tap a sketch, then tap.
Saving Save your work Save a copy of your work one of two ways: Tap, select New Canvas. Tap, select Gallery, and tap. Save variations of your work Create a copy and have variations of your work. Tap, select Gallery, tap a sketch, then tap. Auto-saving If your device is low on power or memory and shuts the app down, SketchBook Ink auto-saves as you work. When re-launched, SketchBook Ink will load the last working file prior to shutdown.
Tranferring and Managing Data , upload, or export your work to share it. Use Dropbox or itunes File Sharing. Since SketchBook Ink is resolution independent, output to the resolution you need, without sacrificing image quality. When determining your exported canvas size, the larger the canvas, the larger the file size, and the longer it takes to render and upload when exported. When selecting a canvas size, take into account your device s limitations and only choose the size you need. Try one of SketchBook Ink s default export presets. Selecting an export resolution 1. Tap and select an option: Photo Library, itunes, Dropbox, or 2. If prompted, select an export Resolution preset. 3. Tap Export.
Setting a Custom Resolution For users requiring a unique canvas size or higher resolution image, use Custom. Knowing your output destination can help you optimize things, since a larger resolution means longer rendering and uploading times. 1. Set the resolution by either dbl-tapping a field and entering the pixels or tap-dragging the slider. SketchBook Ink maintains the 4:3 aspect ratio of your ipad. 2. Tap Export Image.
The importance of using the itunes Connect folder When you export sketches to itunes, they appear in your itunes device s Apps tab, under File Sharing. Select and save them to your computer. Warning Before selling or getting rid of your ipad, save your images to a computer. Once the ipad is gone, there is no way to retrieve these images. Transferring sketches to your computer Every sketch exported to itunes is stored in SketchBook Ink s Apps folder, requiring additional ipad storage. Deleting sketches from the Gallery does not remove them from the Apps folder. The image in its exported form remains in the Apps folder. To remove exported image from your ipad and free up memory, we recommend transferring these files to your computer, then deleting them from the Apps folder. 1. Connect your ipad to itunes and select it from Devices. 2. Tap Apps along the top. 3. Scroll down to File Sharing. 4. In Apps, tap SketchBook Ink. 5. Tap a file from the SketchBook Ink Documents window. 6. Tap Save to.
Flurry This feature provides valuable anonymous information on how our users use SketchBook Ink and the types of devices being used. Turn data collection on or off in your preferences: Settings > SketchBook Ink > Analytics > Collection of Usage Data See the About page to read the data collection notice.
