Manufacturing News The State of Manufacturing in Pennsylvania Taken from the Governor's Manufacturing Advisor Council's report, 'Recommendations to Encourage Growth in Pennsylvania's Manufacturing Sector' Following the challenges brought by the Great Recession, the manufacturing sector in Pennsylvania is undergoing a renaissance. With gross state product (GSP) now reaching $71 billion, manufacturers in Pennsylvania account for over 12% of the total output in the commonwealth. Pennsylvania remains the 6th largest manufacturing state in the United States (utilizing GSP as a benchmark). Pennsylvania outranks other historically industrial states including Michigan, Indiana, New York and New Jersey. Pennsylvania is now producing more products than at any time in its history. For each of the last two years manufacturing employment has increased significantly and in 2011 alone 12,100 new jobs were created. While employment continues to grow, the sector continues to experience measurable leaps in productivity driven by technology adoption and process innovation. Manufacturing productivity outpaces all other sectors with a staggering 259% increase over the last 40 years. With nearly 15,000 manufacturing establishments

MCEDC Notes MCEDC Thanks its Board Members MCEDC would like to thank its Board of Directors for their time and commitment to our organization and look forward to another successful year. MCEDC appreciates the Board for their participation and leadership over the past year. The nominees that have been elected for a three year term beginning July 1, 2012 and are introduced as follows: Jef Corson - Mr. Corson is currently MCEDC's Board Secretary. He was elected to the board January Mr. Corson is President of the Corson Foundation and the Corson Investment Company, an entity comprised of a family partnership and a consulting firm. Mr. Corson served as Interim President of Ursinus College in 2010 through 2011 and is currently Vice Chairman at Einstein Montgomery Hospital. Phillip T. Eastman, Jr. - Mr. Eastman is currently the Vice President of MCEDC's Board of Directors. He was elected to the board in April Mr. Eastman is the Manager of Economic Development for PECO. PECO's Economic Development Team is responsible for PECO's efforts to help attract new businesses to southeastern Pennsylvania as well as working with existing companies that may be expanding or relocating. Steven D. Hobman - Mr. Hobman is a General Partner of NewSpring Capital which he co-founded in He also co-founded Ben Franklin/Progress Capital Fund, L.P. in 1998 and NewSpring Ventures, L.P. in Mr. Hobman brings more than 28 years of experience in the financing of middle-market and growth-stage companies. He was elected to MCEDC's Board of Directors January Richard B. Young - Mr. Young has been an MCEDC Board Member since 1994 and in October 2009 he was elected MCEDC's Chairman.
