5 Advanced User Guide Setting up a Swissphone Pager is a 5-step process: 1. Read Pager 2. Define Profiles (Frequencies) 3. Define Addresses 4. Define Settings 5. Setup Menu 5.1 Step 1: Read Pager Ensure that the proper COM port is selected. If you are using a USB to serial converter select USB serial port. Place the pager in the programmer and click Read 5.2 Step 2: Define Frequencies Profiles / CH-Name: Profiles or CH-Names combine a receiving frequency, Alert- Addresses and the name of the profile/channel. You may also think of them as named channels with associated addresses. Classic User Interface In this User Interface the user switches between profiles to change channels. New User Inteface Here the user switches between up to eight User Profiles P1 to P8. They have an associated Alerting mode and alert channel (receiving frequency plus addresses) A User profile may also combine more than one frequency, therby becoming a scanning User profile. RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx
Single Channel* Single channel models use only a single frequency and, may use up to 50 profiles Multi Channel* Multi channel pagers use two or more frequencies (up to 50), To use profiles with a multi channel unit, enter the same frequency twice with a different name (e.g. Ch1A, CH1b). * Users may switch between profiles (or user profiles for the new user interface) independent of the programming software. Please see operation manual for more information. Frequency Enter the department frequencies here. For single channel models, enter the same frequency for each profile. When you hit "Enter" after typing a name, the frequency will be copied into the next profile. Name (Profile) Enter the name of the profile / channel here. There are a limited amount of characters to choose from. Note that characters are shown when user hovers over this tab with the mouse. S (Classic User Interface Only) Frequencies that are checked in this column will be scanned from top to bottom. Scan (New User Interface Only) For each User profile you can select multiple Frequencies to scan. Simply enter the number of the scan group (1 to 8) for each frequency you would like to be part of the scan group. We recommend not to scan for Alert Networks, as scanning increase likelihood of missing pages. If you decide to do so anyhow, please keep the number of scanned channels as low as possible. 5.3 Step 3: Define Addresses Settings for the address can be defined in the "Address" tab. This also includes the alert type. Begin each new line with the entry of the call address (Tone 1, Tone 2). Address name ("Mark") The name entered here will be shown in the pager display when a call is received or replayed. There are a limited amount of characters to choose from. L (Long Tone) No: This address has 2 tones. RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx
Yes: This address has 1 long tone. Tone 1 & 2 Enter the tone frequencies in hertz. Grp. (Group) Each address can be assigned for example to one of four groups A to D (see "Addresses" tab, "Grp." column). On reception of an address in group A the top most group arrow ( ) starts flashing, and remains visible until the call is acknowledged. Groups A to D are linked to the arrows from top to bottom of the display. Prio No: The pager's settings control the alert setting associated with the address (Loud alert; Discrete alert; Silent alert). Yes: This address will always emit a loud alert. Type Tone &Voice: Tone: Voice: The pager will alert and output the message (default) The pager will only alert The pager will only output the message Voice memory None: This alert never gets recorded Dynamic: This alert will get recorded on the next free memory slot Fix: This alert will get recorded on a predefined memory slot Note: It is recommended to leave this setting on dynamic. Beep The acoustic alert melody can be chosen here. You can compose your own alert melody in Alert pattern. Rep Define how many times you would like the alert melody to be repeated. The duration of one repetition is approximately 1 second. P (Pause: between the melody's repetition cycles) No: without pause Yes: with pause RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx
2. (2 nd tone) The alert signal continues to be emitted as long as the 2nd tone (or the long tone) is detected. CM (Charger Mask) The Charger Mask (CM) defines the behavior of the pager when in the charging unit. If set to "Switched OFF" (CM, red), the behavior of the pager is the same whether it is in the charging unit or not. If set to "Switched ON" mode (CM, green), the following behavior options are available: No: The pager will not issue alerts for this address when in the charger. Yes: The pager will issue alerts for this address when in the charger as per its settings. Loud: The pager always issues a LOUD alert when in the charger even if the pager is set to QUIET. E (Extension Profile), Classic User Interface only The user can select between pre-set profiles. In addition to this selection, the extra profile can be switched ON/OFF at any time. CH1 (Profiles / CH-Names) The last columns represent the profiles / channels that were defined in Step 2. The addresses that are desired may be activated for the frequencies corresponding to these names.* If a profile is assigned to a frequency which is different from the current operational frequency, the pager will switch to the new frequency when the profile is changed (on the pager).** If no profiles are activated (all names are red), a warning will be displayed prior to writing to the receiver. * The user may switch between profiles using the pager. ** This applies only to multi channel units. 5.4 Step 4: Define Options Settings Receiver Type If you purchased a multi channel pager, select Scanner. If you purchased a single channel pager, select single channel. Net monitoring This setting is never used in the United States. Always leave it off. Tone decoder Bandwidth: standard value is +/- 0.9% Timing: Standard 1s 3s: Suited for most standard 1 second 3 second networks Standard wide: Suited for networks where wide tolerances are needed RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx

Vibrator vibrator vibrator in Cu in Cu Beeper Standard: Fast: No: The vibrator is never operative. Yes: The vibrator functions in accordance with the following settings: No: Vibrator functions, but not in the charging unit Yes: Vibrator functions in the charging unit as well The duration of one acoustic alert cycle is approximately 1 second. The duration of one acoustic alert cycle is approximately 0.5 seconds. RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx
Rechargeable battery type Choose if a nickel cadmium battery or a nickel metal hydride battery is used. Note: Most rechargeable batteries today are NiMH (nickel metal hydride) Voice memory size The voice memory can be divided in "partitions," meaning that recordings can be divided into 10, 20, 30, 60 second increments. Define the number and size of each partition. An incoming call will always utilize an entire partition. Switching off allowed No: The receiver cannot be switched off using the keys. (Continuous operation). Yes: The receiver can be switched off using the keys. Squelch delayed No: The receiver is switched off directly after the message Yes: The receiver remains open to receive about ½ second longer Alert timer No: The time elapsed since the message was received is not shown on the display Yes: The time elapsed since the message was received is shown on the display. Stop recording with longpress No: It is not possible to interrupt the recording Yes: The recording can be interrupted by pressing the confirm button for approximately 2 seconds Standard volume Upon inserting a battery this volume setting will be applied. Set to 3 (standard value). Clock No: Clock and timestamp are not active Yes: Clock is active, timestamp may be activated Relay control Alarm Cont: Relay is activated for 5 seconds upon alert AF Control: Relay is activated when speaker is active OFF: Relay is never active. PTL (Push to Listen) Yes: In "Silent" mode the channel may be opened by pressing the right hand button after an alert RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx
Message overview A graphic overview of received calls is displayed when retrieving a message. A call in Group A corresponds to a dash in the first column of the display. 3 dashes mean 3 or more calls in one Group (A, B, C, or D) Discreet without beep No: Discrete alert: vibrate first, then mini-beep then speech. Yes: Discreet alert: only vibe and speech Alert ack., voice on No: When acknowledging a call while the receiver is still beeping, the voice message will not be heard Yes: When acknowledging a call while the receiver is still beeping, the voice message will still be heard. To silence the voice message press "right" once more. Manual monitoring (longpress PTL) If checked the pager can be temporarily put in monitor mode by pressing and holding down the CONFIRM button. Playback in monitor mode If checked, the pager can playback stored messages in monitor mode. Playback in silent mode If checked, the pager can playback stored messages in silent mode. Tones Button click ON: The buttons will make clicking sound when pressed. Switch-off beep: The pager will beep when being switched off. Switch-on beep: The pager will beep when being turned on. Call reminder No: A reminder will not be issued for missed alerts. Yes: A reminder will be issued for alerts that are not acknowledged. A warning tone is sounded. The number of reminders and the time interval between reminder tones can be set. Call suppression Call suppression detects alerts occurring on the same address within a specified period of time. The same address will not be alerted again within this period of time. Call suppression counts the time since the last call was received. Priority channel All selected channels are scanned in the specified order RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx
The first channel is the Priority Channel. After receiving an alert on a "non priority channel" the receiver will check the priority channel regularly. This way you will not miss any alert on the priority channel. Criteria First Tone: If the first address tone is long enough, it may be used as scan criteria. For each channel you want to scan, the tone must be extended 125ms (250ms for two channels). Squelch: With this option, carrier detection is used as scan criteria. Attention: The receiver may be "locked to one channel" when a carrier is on air! If you use your receiver for alerting purposes, we strongly recommend using one from either "Preamble" (5-Tone only) ore "First tone" for your scan criteria. Preamble Defines the length of the preamble as sent by the system. (Has to be >125 times "number of channels). If the preamble is longer than the minimum requirement, your standby time will be increased. 5.5 Step 5: Menu (Classical User Interface only) The operating functions can be activated ( ) and arranged in any desired order. To do so, use the "Drag & Drop" function of your mouse. Loud Alert No: Loud alerting cannot be selected. Yes: Loud alerting can be selected. Discrete Silent Monitor No: Quiet alerting cannot be selected. Yes: Quiet alerting can be selected. Silent alerting: Only LED, LCD and vibrator signals are emitted. No: Silent alerting cannot be selected. Yes: Silent alerting can be selected. Monitor mode: Every radio signal activates the loud speaker. The alerting of addresses remains unaffected and functions as usual. No: Monitor cannot be selected. Yes: Monitor can be selected. Attention! At least one of must be activated RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx
Volume Stored messages Act out of range Set Time Profiles Scanner Volume of the voice message is adjustable. No: Volume cannot be adjusted. Yes: Volume can be adjusted. Enables an artificial subdivision of the menu. Normally, the user only has access to the operation controls of the above listed functions. The functions listed below can be accessed by pressing and holding the left confirm button for more than 3 seconds. This simplifies navigation when performing extensive programming. No: Messages can only be recalled from "quick recall memory" (right button). Yes: Messages can be recalled from quick recall memory and the "envelope". Also available for Non- SV pagers with Message list and Timestamps. Only for Memo and Voice pagers: No: Field strength symbol if no field is received. Yes: Field strength symbol if field is received. Set Time No: Time can only be set using the PSW Yes: Time may be set on the device itself Change the active Profile No: Profile / Channel cannot be changed Yes: Profile / Channel can be changed on the device Scanner only: Allows to enable/disable scanning mode on the receiver. RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx
5.6 Extra feature: Composing alert melodies You can compose the alert "melodies" yourself. To do so, first define the 3 different pitches (A; B; C), which will form the basis for the melody pattern. Please note that due to the construction of the human sense of hearing, the volume and tone frequencies will be perceived differently by each person. Certain tone frequencies may be selected which will enable persons with hearing limitations to receive audible alerts. Note: The loudest sound is produced at a frequency of around 2300 Hz. Tone Frequency Enter in the 3 possible tone frequencies. The lower the value, the more bass the sound. The range spans between 300 and 3000 Hz. Vibrator Pattern "1" switches on the vibrator, "0" switches it off. A rhythmic cycle of the vibrator is more conspicuous than continuous operation. Patterns You may compose up to 8 tone patterns (1 for each line). Beeper Enter the tones A; B; C in the sequence in which you would like them to be heard. A minus sign "-" creates a short pause. LED "1" switches on the red LED, "0" switches the LED off. It is helpful for the user if the LED pattern is accompanied by the tone pattern. RE729 Programming Manual to PSWx29 VoX.docx
