33 3. Future work in IEC and CTA In Japan, SHV broadcast 22.2 multichannel sound using MPEG-4 AAC. Optical Interface and HDMI are effective for transmitting multichannel sound at home receiver. Normally, MPEG-4 AAC 22.2 ch stream needs much bitrates for the broadcasting quality. IEC becomes CDV, and MPEG-4 AAC 22.2ch stream will be able to be transmitted by optical Interface. Although current CTA-861 supports transmission of MPEG-4 AAC up to 8ch on HDMI, it must be needed to transmit MPEG-4 AAC 22.2ch stream as well as IEC

41 Conclusion The 22.2 multichannel sound system was proposed by NHK at first. Now the 22.2 multichannel sound system is supported by many SDOs and is used in the world. (e.g. ) The 22.2 multichannel sound systems are installed in some laboratories in Germany and France, too. IEC is supporting the standardization of the 22.2 multichannel sound system and wishes harmonization of SDOs. We look forward to your ongoing support. 40
