3 Evaluation of HSC R&D Investment (McClure Watters, 2012) Independent evaluation commissioned by DHSSPS Focused on three areas: cancer, diabetes & mental health Demonstrated the for every 1 of HSC R&D Fund, there was a return of 4.14 in leveraged funds for support of R&D in health & social care Encouraged investment in the NETSCC funding streams Recommended close monitoring of the outputs and impacts of HSC R&D Highlighted the lower per capita investment in HSC R&D in Northern Ireland compared to other UK administrations
4 5 th July 2012 We expect a four-fold return on new 2.6m R&D investment Mr Poots made his announcement as he launched a new report which revealed that for key areas of health research every 1 invested in research has generated 4.14 income in the form of further grants or clinical trials. Northern Ireland has a proud history of cutting edge research in health. research is a cornerstone of reform, and innovation is the catalyst for improvement investments such as these are crucial to the reform of our health & social care system
