10 2018 A modern and digital industrial strategy We will transform construction techniques to dramatically improve Efficiency. A rapidly urbanising world needs buildings that can be constructed and operated more efficiently. Our new industrial strategy Transforming Construction will take full advantages of new technologies to. It will ensure that UK Businesses develop world leading capabilities in integrating construction and efficiency technologies. As well as setting a path to improved productivity, our Industrial Strategy sets out four areas where Britain can lead the global technological revolution. These four grand challenges: Artificial intelligence and Big Data, Clean Growth, The future of mobility, Meeting the needs of an ageing population. 10
11 National Infrastructure Commission: Forward Thinking Better Data Better Infrastructure Service Provision
12 The report also sets out a roadmap towards a national digital twin: A digital model of our national infrastructure which will be able both to monitor our infrastructure in real-time, and to simulate the impacts of possible events, for example, a natural disaster, or a new train line. A digital twin could help plan and manage the nation s infrastructure more effectively, and will only be possible through the secure sharing of high quality, standardised data across infrastructure.
13 Welcome to Digital Built Britain Digital technology is changing the way we plan, build, maintain and use our social and economic infrastructure. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is already transforming the UK construction industry. Over the next decade this technology will combine with the internet of things (providing sensors and other information), advanced data analytics and the digital economy to enable us to plan new infrastructure more effectively, build it at lower cost and operate and maintain it more efficiently. Above all, it will enable citizens to make better use of the infrastructure we already have. This is Digital Built Britain (DBB).

23 i3 by AECOM: From BIM to CIM - The City Information Model Our CIM is a fully integrated, semantically-enabled, 3D digital model of a city (or campus) that givers users unprecedented access to portfolio, building and infrastructure data within and beyond their properties. CIMs are file format agnostic and capture any type of asset, urban data both static and dynamic, spatial (3D,BIM,CityGML) and nonspatial buildings (BMS,IoT/EMS), to infrastructure, open data and senor rich equipment (smart street lights) to people data e.g. social media. 23

25 Advanced Manufacturing GOVERNMENT SPENDS BILLIONS ON BUILT ASSETS. STRUCTURALLY A LOT OF THESE BUILDINGS ARE NOT THAT DIFFERENT. TO BECOME MORE EFFICIENT AND TO MAKE DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURE PROCESSES COST EFFECTIVE WE NEED TO ADOPT A COMMON APPROACH. 26 DBB Centre of Excellence The Government have announced the launch of a centre of excellence in Cambridge to champion the digital revolution in the built environment. The Centre for Digital Built Britain is a partnership between the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy and the University of Cambridge to support the transformation of the construction sector using digital technologies to better plan, build, maintain and use infrastructure. "The University of Cambridge is delighted to have been invited to host the Centre for Digital Built Britain, which will work in partnership with Government and industry to improve the performance, productivity and safety of construction through the better use of digital technologies" Professor Andy Neely, Pro-Vice-Chancellor: Enterprise and Business Relations.
