NCARC Meeting Minutes August was a busy month for NCARC. There was no regular monthly meeting; there were 3 major events that were just plain fun for club members and associates alike. If you would like to have full sized pictures of the following, please contact Aaron Cathcart, N0WAR. Aug 19 21: HAM HELP for Fort Collins Cycling Festival Friday, Time trials near Rawhide Power Plant: Time trials were held on a closed course south of Rawhide. Once in a while a non-bike would enter the roadway. Much of the ham activity was just to help point out which way the bicyclists were to go and to radio back to the control operator in case of an emergency of other problems with local traffic. Eugene Bentz (Control coordinator extraordinaire) and I were lucky enough to take the Motor Referee/ Motor Marshal and Course Referee class sponsored by USA Cycling so we could join in USA Cycling events. Above is one of the long time Motor Refs talking to course monitors. I and a number of other folks that took the Motor classes were able to Motor Ref the big road race on Sunday. I had a wonderful time driving up through Stove prairie and back down through Buckhorn canyon making sure that everyone was safe and staying right of the yellow center line and of course, trying to talk on the radio without dropping anything. Of course, every once in a while there would be a boo-boo that needed a little first aid.
Saturday and Sunday Saturday was a Criterion race held in downtown Fort Collins. Sunday was the big road race that started downtown and e FCCF signage. Very AWE inspiring to see that many people on bikes all take off at once.
There were variations on the theme. Some of the bike riding was stationary. A Nice looking tandem. Didn t see any unicycles though. Eugene was very busy getting the FRS radios all operational as well as coordinating radio distribution and keeping track of who got their sweat shirts. The NCARC tent was set up between the 5 hour energy drink tent and the Yogurt wagon. Both very yummy. Willy and Jerry maintained the booth as well as others for this 2 day event. What s that about a rubber duck?
Yeah, you heard me! A good time was had by all! The next weekend on Aug 27 Old Flowers Run started early in the morning up at Stove Prarie. This from Willis, WA5VRL: We ended up with 9 operators at the Old Flowers run. (Several members showed up that had not replied to my .) A note of thanks to the following Hams: KD0EGE Chris McNair KI6MPA Eugene Bentz KD0BER Paul Rulon KD0MFV Jeff Dueck KD0FAF Jeff McNair K1TJ Tom Jungmeyer WB0ZVE Bill Abbott KA0TEY - Ed Lynicki
And if the Run wasn t enough, later that morning, toward noon, was the NCARC picnic at Mike Hugley s home, KF4DUS. The following picture is from OJ, K0OJ. LOOKING THROUGH THE SMOKE YOU CAN SEE KI6MPA CHEF EUGENE AT WORK WITH THE BURGERS AND BRATS. LOTS of SMOKE!... some of it from the shooting range behind Mike s house. I know that I didn't have the info about all the hams involved in all of this but I must say that the support of the NCARC has been outstanding. 73s from Jay Dubya 'At's K-B0NE
