1 May 2017 Message from the Head Teacher Mr B Janes December 2018 Y11 Parents Evening Wed 30th January 19 Y8 Options Evening Wed 6th February 19 Y8 Parents Evening Wed 13 February 19 Dear Parents/Carers, All events start at 4pm and end at 6:30pm Thank you for your continued support over the first term of this academic year. We have squeezed such a lot into our first term: curriculum evenings for all year groups, Year 7, 9 and 10 parents evenings, Year 6 open evening, a battlefields trip, a visit to Lesotho, the class of 2017 presentation evening, the Remembrance Service across the whole academy, the concert to commemorate the end of WW1, an anti-bullying concert, sing along visits by our choir to dementia homes, a carol service at Stockton Parish Church, the Eucharist services, Christmas jumper/accessory day and our Christmas Concert. This doesn t include the multitude of other activities that pupils and staff have been involved in, that come from all corners of the academy. To keep up to date with what goes on at the academy, please follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and our new website. I look forward to another fun packed term in the new year. Design Technology Physical and human features of Africa, tourism in Tunisia, life in an African Black Death and Peasants Revolt Resistant Materials - Design and make a bug hotel using sustainable materials, Introduction to the workshop tools and equipment, Evaluate their own products. Graphics - Design and make a mini light with packaging. Make a basic circuit, Introduction to the workshop tools and equipment, Evaluate product in detail. Food - Working safely in a kitchen, How to cook healthy meals using the hob, grill and oven, Using the Eatwell guide to develop health meals. Office Skills, Coding with scratch, App inventor German Netball, Rugby, football, trampolining and fitness (4 week rotations) Family, friends and relationships Art - Colour theory-learning about colour theory and studying the work of Michael Craig Martin Music - Composition. 3 YEAR 8 CURRICLUM 3D Shapes, percentages, Linear Graphs, Ratio and Proportion Much Ado About Nothing Biology - Food and nutrition, Plants and their reproduction, Breathing and respiration, Unicellular organisms. Chemistry - Combustion, The Periodic Table, Metals and their uses, and Rocks. Physics - Fluids, Light, Energy transfers, The Earth and Space. Exploring Citzenship within our local community How can we be good citizens? Continuing careers exploration, How do I make the best option choices? Ecosystems focusing on rainforests: location, climate, structure, plant How can religion help in a time of crisis? America in the 1920s and the Rise of the Nazi Party in Germany Resistant Materials - Design and make a light product, Develop CAD/CAM skills, Expand the variety of workshop machines used. Graphics - Design and make an amplifier using the CAD/CAM laser cutter, Soldering together a circuit made up of different components, Evaluate all work Food - Making healthy meals, designing a healthy diet, Selecting, evaluating and using food sustainably. Photoshop, Gamemaker, BBC Micro:Bits All lesson and homework resources will be available on Google Classroom French Football, Rugby, Netball, Volleyball and Trampolining (4 week rotations) Media and entertainment. 4 YEAR 9 CURRICLUM Differentiated schemes of learning can be found on the academy website for each class. Romeo and Juliet - this is the play that will be examined on at the end of year 10. If pupils can have their own copy of the text then this will significantly improve their GCSE Literature study. Biology - Mitosis, Growth in animals and plants, Stem cells and the nervous system. Chemistry - Atomic structure and the periodic table, Ionic bonding, Covalent bonding and Metallic bonding. Physics - Conservation of energy and Generation of electricity. Exploring Citizenship within our national setting examining national law and the courts. Continuing careers exploration, What is the labour market like where I live? Living World Rainforests and Hot Deserts (Paper 1). Sacred Texts Introducing the GCSE Christian Beliefs Medicine through Time 20th Century Medicine and the Historic Environment (Paper 1) Resistant Materials - Pewter casting and joining methods in wood. Graphics - Design, develop and model the product launch of a new fragrance. Food - Practical food preparation skills, Working properties of a range of proteins in different diets. Pupils will continue to study for Paper 1 and also learn key programming skills. Topics that are included in paper 1 are: Systems architecture, Memory and Storage, Networks, System security, System software, Ethical, legal and environmental impacts of computer science.. GCSE - Fitness health and performance, Fitness testing, Principles of training, methods of training and SMART targets. OCR National - Developing sports skills, Know the personal qualities, styles, roles and responsibilities associated with effective sports leadership, Be able to; plan sports activity sessions, deliver sports activity session, evaluate own performance in delivering a sports activity session. Core PE - Basketball, badminton, trampolining and rugby. German School life / Education Drama Exploring style and genre Music - Listening and appraising skills, Composition skills. Art - Natural Form- studying the work of visual artist Georgia O Keeffe, photographer Karl Blossfeldt and ceramicist Sue Dunne until February Half term Photography BTEC Enterprise Project work It s become an obsession, Photoshop Basic skills, Understanding manual mode on a digital SLR camera. Chemistry - Electrolysis, dynamic equilibrium and groups of the periodic table Physics - Forces and motion, Conservation of energy, Electricity. Exploring Citizenship in our global community the impact of plastic pollution and human rights. Continuing careers exploration, What do employers want? Personal statements and CVs, What pathways are open to me? Is an apprenticeship for me? Urban Issues and Challenges (Paper 2) followed by Changing Economic World (Paper 2) Christian Festivals, Pilgrimage and Church The American West (part of Paper 2) Resistant Materials - Manufacturing techniques suitable for making a docking station. Developing practical skills to manufacture their own docking station design solutions. Food - How nutrition impacts the effectiveness of diet. Engineering - Developing practical skills to manufacture their own docking station design solutions. Pupils will continue to study for paper 2 during this term, this tests their ability to apply and explain programming theory as well as other technical computational topics. Topics that we are studying from paper 2 this term are: Computational logic, Translators and facilitators of languages and Data representation. OCR National - Sport in the Media. Core - Boxercise, trampolining and Futsal.
