1 June 2018, VOL. 15, Issue 5 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Another month has passed and it's June already!!! Is it just me, or does it seem like this year is flying by?!?!? I want to congratulate all graduates -- whether they graduated from kindergarten, grade, middle, or high school! And, let's not forget the college graduates!!! Hooray for you all --- and congratulations also to all the parents who helped them achieve their goals! What does graduation have to do with quilting, you ask? Well, if we had no graduates, we would have fewer quilts to make and we wouldn't know what to do with our time! So, keep quilting for those you love and care about -- we can't stop quilting! Our May guild meeting was our annual "Affiliates' Night" and we welcomed Linda Williams from Nimble Thimble (Gilroy, CA), Laurie Perez from Quilts & Things (Morgan Hill, CA), Nathan Lazar from S.O.S. Machines (Hollister, CA) and our newest affiliates, Karen & Luis Gonzalez from Machine Medics (Capitola, CA). All the affiliates in attendance gave a short presentation about new items in their shops. In the case of our two machine repair affiliates, they told us what type of services they offer, where and when machines can be dropped off for repair/cleaning, and any other ancillary services they offer. I enjoyed all of our affiliates presentations! Coming up at our June guild meeting, we will host Annalisa Tay (Irene Towler's sister), who will speak about "What Judges Look For" when judging our quilts at county fairs, juried shows and other judging venues. Please join us on June 19th at the Vet's Building (kitchen annex on the 7th Street side of building) at 6:30pm for friendship social and at 7pm for our general meeting. Also at our June meeting, we will be holding our election of officers. The SECRETARY position is STILL OPEN. If you would like to be our guild secretary, there will be a spot on the ballot to "write in" your name. Check with Diane Mezerkor for any concerns/questions you might have about this position. I assure you, it isn't a difficult position and we welcome any member who would like to accept the position. Lastly, for our June meeting I will be bringing a tote full of kits for donation quilts! We have put together lots of different fabrics for baby, kids, Christmas -- lots of variety!!! The kits include enough fabric for a top and some kits have enough for a pieced back also. If the kit you choose doesn't have enough for a back, never fear -there is more fabric at Bev's house. Please see me at the June meeting to sign out a kit and make a donation quilt for a good cause!!!! In July, we will be having our annual BBQ! We are going to try it potluck this year, because the past two years we have had way too many leftovers and it just was not cost-effective. Please check with Cindy Larca or Diane Mezerkor for sign up options. Hope to see a lot of members (and guests) at the BBQ. Also, the weekend AFTER July 4th (that would be July 7th & 8th), we will have our annual guild "Faire" at Corbin Motors to help celebrate their 50th Anniversary. This is one of our MAJOR fundraising events of the year and we can always use new, bright, smiling faces to help us sell things to the bikers!! We will be selling quilted items and cookies to make money to keep the guild going!!! Even though the city has cancelled the Biker Rally this year, the bikers will be at Corbin's to celebrate on July 7th & 8th, so please come join us. Contact Bev Hanagan to contribute homemade cookies for this event -- bikers LOVE cookies!!! Tell your friends about the "Faire" and come join us!!! I hope you are off to a great start to your summer, and we always welcome guests and new members to our guild. June is the last month for a chance to enter the "Early Bird" Membership drawing. Pay your dues to Carol Hart in June and get a ticket in the drawing. There will be a drawing at June's guild meeting, then the main Early Bird drawing will be held at our July guild meeting. Remember, membership renewal dues are DUE BY JUNE 30TH!!! See Carol Hart. I guess I have covered everything I made notes about, so remember, KEEP QUILTING! Dianna Smith, President What's Happening!
