Quad Blade 4 1. Safe General Operation Practices I. GENERAL OPERATION Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine and in the manual(s) before starting. Only allow responsible adults, who are familiar with the instructions, to operate this machine. Be sure the area is clear of bystanders before operating. Stop machine if anyone enters the area. Do not wear loose clothing and use proper footwear. Do not operate machine while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Watch for traffic when operating near or crossing roadways. Use extra care when loading or unloading the machine into or from a trailer or truck. Always wear eye protection when operating machine. Do not operate at speeds over 5 mph (8 km/h) II. SLOPE OPERATION Slopes are a major factor related to loss of control and tip-over accidents, which can result in severe injury or death. Operation on all slopes requires extra caution. If you cannot back up the slope or if you feel uneasy on it, do not proceed. Operate dozer blade up and down slopes, not across. Watch for holes, ruts, bumps, rocks, or other hidden objects. Uneven terrain could overturn the machine. Choose a low ground speed so you will not have to stop or shift while on a slope. Always keep the machine in gear when going down slopes. Do not shift to neutral and coast downhill. Avoid starting, stopping, or turning on a slope. If the tires lose traction, lift the Quad Blade and proceed slowly straight down the slope. Keep all movement on slopes slow and gradual. Do not make sudden changes in speed or direction, which could cause the machine to roll over. Do not try to stabilize the machine by putting your foot on the ground.

Quad Blade 5 III. CHILDREN WARNING Tragic accidents can occur if the operator is not alert to the presence of children. Children are often attracted to the machine. Never assume that children will remain where you last saw them. Keep children out of the operating area and in the watchful care of the responsible adult other than the operator. Be alert and turn machine off if a child enters the area. Before and while backing, look behind and down for small children. Never carry children! They may fall off and be seriously injured or interfere with safe machine operation. Children who have been given rides in the past may suddenly appear in the operating area for another ride and be run over or backed over by the machine. Never allow children to operate the machine. Use extreme care when approaching blind corners, trees, or other objects IV - GENERAL SERVICE: Keep all nuts and bolts tight to be sure the equipment is in safe working condition. Never tamper with safety devices. Check their proper operation regularly. If you strike a foreign object, stop and inspect the machine. Repair, if necessary, before restarting. Never make any adjustments or repairs with the engine running. Check brake operation frequently. Adjust and service as required. Maintain or replace safety and instruction labels, as necessary.

Quad Blade 7 2. Assembly/Adjustment Instructions I. Blade Assembly & Mounting 1. Unpack all parts and sub assemblies from the crate or box and ensure everything is there by cross checking with the list on page 6. Note that sub assembly components can be cross checked with the parts lists in the Repair Parts section in the back of this book. 2. Attach the Pivot Sub Assy, 86568, to the Blade sub assy, 86569, by sliding the pivot frame between the vertical members on the Blade and installing a bolt and washer in each side as shown in Assy Fig 1. Note that the ½ flat washers must be installed between the blade vertical members and the pivot frame. It may be helpful to use grease or silicone to hold the washer in place while the bolt is being installed. Tighten the bolt securely. Note that the bolt threads will bottom-out inside and leave a gap between the bolt head and the vertical member. This is normal. 3. Attach the springs by connecting one hook of the springs into the holes in the top of the blade. Connect the other end of the chain into the slot in vertical member of the pivot sub assy. Note that the tension in the chain can be increased by connecting the chain to a closer chain link. The springs are used as a safety mechanism for the blade so that if an obstacle is hit while blading, the blade will rotate about the tilt pivot bolts rather than breaking something.

Quad Blade 8 4. Connect the Front Push pole to the pivot frame using the ¾ x 8 Hex bolt and ¾ Nylock Nut as shown in Assy Fig 3. Install the bolt through the lower hole in the channel on the front of the push pole weldment. Do not overtighten the Nylon lock nut. 5. Slide the Rear Push Pole sub assy, 86566, inside the rear of the front push pole so that the hitch plate is on the upper side of the rear push pole as shown in Assy Fig 4. This creates a telescoping Hitch Pole assembly. Do not install any retaining bolts at this time. 6. The Bumper Pad Sub Assy is installed on the front push pole as shown in Assy Fig 4 however do not install it until performing Step 7. Note that the Bumper Pad assy can be installed in several different holes in the front hitch pole as well as in the Bumper pad assy itself. This will provide for and aft adjustment as well as height adjustment to enable the push poles to sit at the correct height with respect to the ATV.

Quad Blade 9 7. On the ATV the Blade is being mounted on, measure the distance from the center of the hitch bolt hole to the front face of the ATV tires as shown in Assy Fig 5 (dimension X ). Adjust the length of the Telescoping hitch poles to the nearest length equal to or greater than this dimension (dimension Y in Assy Fig 5). Install the ½ x 3 Hex Bolt through the holes in the telescoping hitch poles and tighten securely. Next, measure the distance from the front face of the ATV tires to a suitable location on the belly pan of the ATV for the Rubber Bumper Pad Assy to sit against. Install the Rubber bumper Assy on the front Hitch pole using the 3/8 x 3 hex bolt and flange lock nut in the hole that closely matches this dimension from the back face of the front channel of the front push pole. 8. Using the 5/8 Bolt and nut located in Hitch Plate of the Rear Push Pole, fasten the Hitch Plate of the rear Push Pole to the underside of the ATV Hitch. Note that it may be necessary to adjust the Hitch Plate on the Rear Hitch Pole up or down in order to obtain clearance of the push poles to the underside of the ATV. 9. Install the Ratchet Strap Hooks into the upper holes of the channel on the front of the front Push Pole as shown in Assy Fig 6. Loop free end of Ratchet strap around Rack or some other suitable fixture on the ATV and connect the second Hook of each of the Ratchet Straps into the upper hole of the channel as well. Tighten each ratchet strap evenly until the Bumper Pad Assy is tight against the belly pan of the ATV. It is beneficial to secure the upper ends of the ratchet straps farther apart then the lower ends as this will increase the lateral stability of the Blade. Note that on ATV s that are not equipped with a front rack, it may be necessary to pull off some plastic caps on the front of the ATV in order to find a suitable location that is strong enough to hold the ratchet strap and the blade. In these cases it may not be possible to loop the remaining hook of the ratchet strap back down to the upper hole in the front channel.

Quad Blade Attach the ATV winch hook to a loop in the chain on the Pivot Sub Assy Bolt as shown in Assy Fig 9. Note that in most cases the winch hook should be connected to the end loop of the chain. If the Winch hook is connected to any link other than the end link, it is possible for the Blade to hit the front of the ATV when the Blade is lifted all the way. The Winch should reach the end of its travel before the Blade contacts the front of the ATV. If the Blade raises too high and contacts the front of the ATV before the winch reaches the end of its travel, then it will be necessary to add a link to the Pivot Lift bolt chain. If the Blade does not lift high enough then connect the hook in the second or third link. 11. Attach the end of the Pivot Actuation strap to a spot on the front of the ATV that is convenient for the operator to reach. The Pivot Actuation strap should hang loosely down from the front of the ATV to the Pivot stop pin with enough slack that when the Blade is moved up or down the strap will not become taut and release the pivot stop pin. It also should not be so loose that it will become entangled with other parts of the Blade. 12. The Blade is now fully attached to the ATV, however there are a number of adjustments that can be made to enhance the performance of the Blade. These are discussed in the next section however it should be noted that in order for the Blade to Pivot in a level plane while on the ground, the blade hinge pin should be between 8.5 and 9 off the ground with the Blade lowered to the ground. Adjust the Bumper pad mount or the hitch plate mount or both to achieve this dimension.

Quad Blade 11 II. Blade Adjustments and Operation After installing dozer blade, make sure the Pivot Actuation Strap is securely tied to the ATV where it can be grabbed while operating. The strap should neither be too tight nor loose to avoid accidental release of the lock arm or tangling. To change the blade angle, come to a complete stop, pull the strap to release the lock. Drive the blade into a snow bank at the appropriate angle to move the blade as desired. Release the strap when proper angle is achieved. Ensure the blade is locked after releasing the strap. Blade Angle Adjustment Lock The skid plates can be adjusted to a different height depending on the desired level of operation (see figure below) Blade tilt Adjustment tab Skid Plate Adjustment The tilt level of the blade can be changed by moving the tilt stop forward or backwards (shown in the figure above) The Blade springs/chains can be shortened or lengthen to achieve more or less pressure on the Blade tilt release (refer to Assy Figure 2)

Quad Blade 12 To attach the optional blade extensions remove the bottom dozer edge plate, attach both extensions, reattach the main dozer edge plate to the far right of the blade and attach the short dozer edge plate on the left side (see figure below) Main dozer edge plate Short dozer edge plate The Hitch Plate on the Rear Hitch Pole can be adjusted up or down in order to obtain adequate clearance of the push poles to the underside of the ATV. Rear Hitch Plate The Bumper Pad Assembly can be adjusted horizontally and vertically in order to achieve the best position for it to rest up against the belly of the ATV Horizontal Bumper Pad adjustment holes Vertical Bumper Pad adjustment holes
