We design for most contingencies, but installation may be different based dependent upon Jeep conditions, configurations and/or year. 2 Phase 1: Tools & Notes on Installation Tools Required: This list is the recommended tools for ease of installation. Other versions of the same tool can be used. For example, llen Wrenches instead of llen rive Sockets. Please read and follow the instructions in order of each page top to bottom. IMGES: Pictures are provided and parts are labeled throughout the instructions. Each text box contains guidance based on the pictures next to it. The text will refer to alphabetical labels (, B, etc) found in the images. 3 Phase 2: JEEP Preparation Step 1: Remove stock components that will interfere with corner guard installation. Remove Current Rear Fender Flares(). Remove Stock Rear Inner Fender liner(b). Picture of Inner Fender liner Remove Rear Brake/Blinker Housings(C) by removing the four phillip head screws() at the corners of the red transparent cover plate of Rear Brake/Blinker Housing(C). Inside the Brake/BlinkerHousing remove the three hex head cap screws(e), disconnect wiring harness(f) and remove Rear Brake/Blinker Housing(C). Save all hardware for reinstallation. C Remove Gas Tank Fill Spout Plastic Retainer(G) by removing the four outer T25 Torx rive Screws(H) and the four inner T25 Torx rive Screws(I). Save all hardware for reinstallation. H E Remove Rear License Plate Holder by removing the four hex head cap screws(j). Save all hardware for reinstallation. I G Remove/clean all lldirt, stock rivet nuts or protrusions from side of Jeep body. Fix any body damage in order to assure the corner guard can be mounted flush to the Jeep body side, corner and rear. 3 of 9

4 Phase 3: Pre Installation Step 1: Fix Corner Guard into position in order to drill holes for holding fasteners. I C Images show a raw metal Corner Guard(). Special care must be taken with Powder Coated Corner Guards to protect coating during the installation process. Corner Guard can be installed with Jeep Top installed, however installation is easier if Jeep Top is removed. B H E F C H G Fix Corner Guard into position with C Clamps or Vice Grips(B) as shown. Be sure to place one clamp at top(c) and one clamp at bottom() of the 3 radius bend in Corner Guard and rear corner of the Jeep. Corner Guard should fit tightly(e) to Jeep body corner with minimal gap. Inspect points to insure alignment is proper. (F) Gas Intake Spout mounting holes. (G) Rear Brake/Marker Housing mounting holes. (H) Lower edge of Corner Guard() and Jeep Body should be flush. (I) 10 to 2 o clock of Wheel Well of Corner Guard() and Jeep Body. B If you have a MetalCloak Rocker Rail(J) check alignment of two bolt holes(k). This is just a check as the Rocker Rail can float forward or backwards on Jeep and should therefore be installed after the Corner Guard(). The Corner Guard has a fixed position. J K K 4of 9

5 Phase 3: Pre Installation Step 2: rill all holes in Jeep required for installation. Center Punch and Pilot rill (1/8 rill) all holes marked as follows: rill the following holes to the designated finish size without removing Corner Guard. 1/4 rill Size 3/8 rill Size river s Side Corner Guard Passenger s Side Corner Guard Release all C Clamps and Vise Grips and Remove Corner Guard from Jeep. Corner Guard will not be needed again until final installation. This is a good time to complete coating/painting of raw metal Corner Guards. fter removal of Corner Guard, drill the following holes to finish size. 1/2 rill Size Provides clearance hole in Jeep body for Rear Flare retaining bolts. 17/32 rill Size Provides hole size for installation of 3/8 16 Rivet Nut in next step. 5of 9

6 Phase 3: Pre Installation Step 3: Installation of Rivet Nuts. Previously in these instructions two 17/32 holes where drilled on the lower portion of the rear of the Jeep body. These holes [marked with a Phase 3 Step 2] require the installation of a 3/8 16 Rivet Nut(). In the hardware provided find the Installation Tool(B) with the 3/8 16 Rivet Nut() already assembled to the Installation Tool(B). The Hex Head Cap Screw(C) on the Installation Tool should be tightened to a snug fit. Insert the assembled 3/8 16 Rivet Nut and Installation Tool into one of the 17/32 holes(). Use 11/16 Box Wrench(E) on Installation Tool Large Nut(F) and 9/16 Crescent Wrench(G) or Socket Ratchet Wrench on Hex Head Cap Screw(C) as shown(e). While holding 11/16 Box Wrench stationary fully tighten Hex Head Cap Screw. Fully tightening will cause the 3/8 16 Rivet Nut to crush and flare(h) behind the sheet metal body of the Jeep(I) thus fixing the 3/8 16 Rivet Nut() in place. Unscrew the Hex Head Cap Screw. The 3/8 16 Rivet Nut should not move or rotate at all(j). C Re assemble the Installation Toolinto the second Rivet Nut provided and repeat installation process in additional 17/32 holes drilled in Step 2. B F J I G H E 6of 9

7 Phase 3: Pre Installation Step 4: Clearance a for washer and nut on internal double wall of Jeep Body. Two of the 3/8 holes drilled previously in these instructions and indicated by below penetrate the outer wall() and inner wall(b) of the Jeep body. Clearance in the inner wall(b) of the Jeep must be created to allow for the insertion of a 3/8 Washer(C) and 3/8 16 Nylock Nut(). Peal back Wall Carpet on the inside of Jeep use a 7/8 rill to drill through the INNER WLL(B) OF THE JEEP ONLY (E)! O NOT RILL THROUGH OUTER WLL() OF JEEP! B uring the final installation of the Corner Guard the 3/8 Washer(C) and 3/8 16 Nylock Nut() should be installed a shown. river s Side Corner Guard Passenger s Side Corner Guard E E C 7of 9

8 Phase 4: Installation Step 1: Install Corner Guards Fix Corner Guard() in position as described in Phase 3 Step 1. Be sure to clamp at top(b) and bottom(c) of Jeep corner. Install the following fasteners at the designated locations: 1/4 20 x 3/4 SBHC Screw, (2)1/4 washers and 1/4 20 Nylock Nut 3/8 16 x 1 SBHC Screw, 3/8 washer and 3/16 16 Nylock Nut 3/8 16 x 1 SBHC Screw B C river s Side Corner Guard Passenger s Side Corner Guard Install flare retaining fasteners. Install 3/8 16 x 1 ¼ SBHC Screws(), 3/8 washers(e) and Backing Plates(F) as shown. If a MetalCloak Rear Flare is to be installed leave these fasteners loose(g) but in place. If a MetalCloak Rear Flare is NOT to be installed fully tighten fasteners(h). E F G H 8of 9

9 Phase 4: Installation Step 2: Re install sa soc stock components Re install Gas Tank Fill Spout Plastic Retainer() using the four outer T25 Torx rive Screws and the four inner T25 Torx rive Screws in existing holes on Corner Guard and Gas Tank Spout. Re install Rear Brake/Marker Housings(B) by reconnecting wiring harness, reinstalling three hex head cap screws inside the Brake/Marker Housing in existing holes and reinstalling red transparent cover plate with the four phillip head screws(c) located at the corners of the Rear Brake/Blinker Housing. B C Re install the license plate holder. Position license plate holder in desired position. Center punch Corner Guard through four mounting holes() in license plate holder. Use a 7/64 drill to drill holes at all four center punch locations. Install self tapping stock screws through license plate holder and into 7/64 drilled holes in Corner Guard. Step 3: Install MetalCloak Rear Flares and Cut/Grind clearance for larger tires in Jeep Body Follow MetalCloak Rear Flare Installation Instructions for Rear Flare installation(e). E F The Wheel Well(F) for the Corner Guard is designed to provide greater clearance for running larger diameter tires. t your option you may grind/cut the portion of the Jeep body designated blue(g).
