Michael Byrne Manufacturing is a manufacturer of Horizontal Earth Boring Machines, Augers, Cutting Heads, Tunnel Shields, and various customized equipment for the Utility Contractor. Michael Byrne Manufacturing was started in 1966 by Mike Byrne who left a successful career with Westinghouse as the National Marketing Director for small appliances. Mike a very hands on self-made man entered the field of manufacturing equipment for the expanding field of Trenchless Technology in a garage in Mansfield, Ohio. The growing business required a larger facility and a 10 acre plot was purchased in 1969 and a 12,000 sq/ft plant was situated on the land located just across from Mansfield Lahm Airport. In 1991 another building was added with an additional 22,500 sq/ft to accommodate the growing business, and the addition of gearbox manufacturing from the business acquisition of Crichton Manufacturing which was relocated from Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The company is still a family business and is owned and operated by Mike s son-in-law Jim Weist who came into partnership with the business in The mission has remained consistent over the last 48 years, Providing superior extreme duty products to the underground utility contractor, with service after the sale that exceeds customers expectations. The heart of the machine is the Byrne Gearbox designed specifically for the severe duty of cutting rock, sand, hard clay, and normal soils that are typically confronted in underground utility work. The Byrne gearbox features a thrust and radial bearing incorporated into the output housing of the gearbox giving the contractor the confidence to push the Boring Machine where many other machines fail. 7 Problem Solved: Michael Byrne Mfg The Guided Swivel Bore Cutting head The Guided Swivel lets you turn your head cutting head without turning the pilot tube. Ability to pull your cutting head back through casing with the ability to align easily back into pilot tube to begin bore again. Swivel Assembly will adjust to multiple sizes of cutting heads as well as styles of cutting heads. Versatility enables the customer to economize with one swivel for many head sizes and styles. 8 KISS Keep It Strong n Straight The guided bore swivel cutting head is made high strength alloy steel which is heat treated for durability. High thrust bearings give the contractor high thrust capacity for longer and larger bores, as well longevity. Multiple sizes available for 3, 4 and 5 hex to meet the capabilities of for various machine/auger sizes.

9 Step 1: Install the Auger into Casing Insert the lead auger into the casing. Michael Byrne Mfg recommends using the lead auger with adapter for the head designed for this application.

10 Step 2 Install the Swivel Head Install the cutting head onto the lead auger to desired length for soil conditions Hard soil conditions head may be outside of casing, while in hard but crumbling material the head may be inside the casing.

11 Step 3- Insert Swivel Nose Using Auger Bore Machine insert the swivel nose into the Pilot Bore Tube. The Swivel head will make positive contact with the Pilot Bore Tube

12 Step 4- Begin Auger Bore With the swivel nose in the pilot tube and with positive contact with end of the pilot tube begin the auger boring process. Begin auger rotation and thrust. Spoils are carried out through the cutting head and removed via the auger into launch shaft.
