The rule of thumb for determining the size to use is the band should be about one quarter to one third the width of the gate or door. If the gate or door is over six feet high then a third hinge should be utilized (one hinge for every three feet of height). Carriage Bolts Please Note: Hinges require that a carriage bolt (preferred) or a lag bolt be utilized on each hinge as shown in the examples displayed on this page. These are not included as the length required will vary with the installation. The use of hot dipped galvanized bolts or lags is recommended. (See Page 25 for hot dipped galvanized carriage bolts). We suggest finishing the tops with our touch up paint (See Page 25) or black spray paint. 7

24 Wood Hardware - Heavy Duty Latches & Hasps SLIDING GATE LATCH Combine our one piece cane bolt with the optional keep for an excellent heavy duty gate latch. In the picture to the left is a 12 ( ) cane bolt with a single keep ( ). Many of our customers use the 15 cane bolt also for this purpose. Ideal for double gates, single gates, and dumpster enclosures. See Page 34 for sizes and product codes. IRISH RAIL GATE LATCH On a recent trip to Ireland we found this style of latch in common use throughout the countryside. We have made some modifications so that it will work with European style five bar gates and with our Maine Board Gate, Cape Cod gate or any other style of wood rail gate. Simply drill hole or route slot to receive the bar in to the gate post. Cotter pin pushes through hole in bar to ensure it remains closed or you can put a padlock (not included) through the hole. 16 long overall, 5/8 rod, 4 of draw - with a 5.5 wide style latch will accommodate a space of up to 2 between the gate and the post. Bar can be cut shorter if necessary. Ideal for livestock. 37 Old Fashioned Rolling Door Hardware Manufactured in Connecticut, these barn door rollers and track are copies of old rollers that are virtually unavailable as the originals wear out and the supply of replacements in antique shops dwindle. They are used on new and restored homes, carriage buildings and barns. Ideally suited for interior renovations. We carry four sizes and two styles. 38 Landscape Chain About The Coating First of all, we use only hot dipped galvanized chain to assure maximum corrosion protection. During the coating process the chain is extensively washed to ensure all oxide is removed. It then undergoes a dip ecoat, which is a rust resistant coating used in the automotive industry. Finally, a high quality black polyester powder coating is applied. This is a much more durable and hardy finish than chain dipped in liquid plastic. Our caps are cast in aluminum and secured to the post with two set screws just like the original.
