Laying of Solid Wood Flooring and Soloplank on Wooden Subfloors Method A: Laying on wooden subfloors with loose fill or conventional insulating material Spread loose fill Bed in battens 40/80 mm Nail or screw solid wood planks to the battens In older buildings or buildings without a cellar, a hygrodiode (vapour barrier - plastic sheet) must be used! Untreated parquet must be sanded and varnished or oiled! 1) 20 mm solid wood flooring 2) 40 mm subfloor 40/80 mm, intermediate space filled with loose fill or conventional insulating material 3) 10 mm impact sound insulation (strips or continuous boards) 4) bare floor Method B: Laying on wooden subfloor with chipboard floor panels Position battens 40/80 mm Fill spaces with insulating material Screw V-100 tongue-and-groove chipboard floor panels to the battens Nail or screw the parquet to the chipboard panels or use floating installation (tongueand-groove gluing with stabilisator) Untreated parquet must be sanded and varnished or oiled! 13

Laying of 2-layer & Solid Wood Parquet Method 1: Laying on cement screed Check the screed for moisture (with carbide meter, e.g. IPS DARR MAX or CM device) and surface properties according to the European standards for screed If the screed is sandy, pre-coating is necessary! (compatible with the make of glue used!) Lay parquet using full spread gluing Untreated parquet must be sanded and varnished or oiled! 1) Parquet 2) Adhesive 3) 50 mm floating screed 4) 30 mm insulating layer with covering 5) Bare floor Method 2: Laying on cement screed + underfloor heating ( heating line ) NOT VALID FOR LONGLINE (Recommended: with Soloplank) Check the screed for moisture (with carbide meter, e.g. IPS DARR MAX or CM device) and surface properties according to the European standards for screed Pre-coating for underfloor heating (compatible with the make of glue) is absolutely essential! Before gluing the parquet flooring over the heating line you must ask the site manager for a heating protocol. If measuring points are marked on the screed, measurements must be taken with a carbide meter! It is recommended to lay only Exquisit and Select-grades as they have lower shrinkage and swelling parameters Lay parquet using full spread gluing with adhesive intended for underfloor heating Untreated parquet must be sanded and varnished or oiled! 1) Parquet 2) Screed with edge insulation strips 3) Reinforcement 4) Heating pipe of underfloor heating system 5) Vapour barrier 6) Heat insulation 7) Bare floor 14

Method 3: Laying on wooden subfloor with chipboard floor panels Position battens 40/80 mm Fill spaces with insulating material Screw V-100 tongue-and-groove chipboard floor panels to the battens Apply parquet to the chipboard panels using full spread gluing Untreated parquet must be sanded and varnished or oiled! 1)Parquet 2) V-100 chipboard floor panels 3) 40 mm battens 40/80 mm, intermediate spaces filled with loose fill or conventional insulating material 4) 40 mm heat insulation 5) Bare floor Method 4: Laying on wooden subfloor with loose fill Spread loose fill Bed in battens 40/80 mm Make wooden subfloor by nailing on approx. 20 mm boards, planed both sides, with separation distances over the entire area Nail the wood block flooring to the boards of the subfloor According to the ÖNORM every third block must be nailed In older buildings or buildings without a cellar, a hygrodiode (vapour barrier plastic sheet) must be used in addition! Untreated parquet must be sanded and varnished or oiled! 1)22 mm Solid wood parquet 2) 20 mm subfloor 3) 40 mm battens 40/80 mm, intermediate space filled with loose fill or conventional insulating material (Method 5) 4) 40 mm heat insulation 5) Bare floor conventional insulating material Method 5: Laying on wooden subfloor with Position battens 40/80 mm Fill spaces with insulating material In addition, sound insulating boards can be laid beneath the battens Continue as shown in Method 4 15

General Laying Instructions: Storing and Laying Parquet: In order to make sure your parquet floor can be laid without difficulty, the following recommendations should be considered: - Store parquet protected from damp. - Do not open packs until shortly before starting to lay! - Laying the parquet floor should not be started until all the other workers have left the construction site otherwise cover up the floor. - All wet works must have been completed. (e.g. laying tiles and bricks, plastering walls and ceilings, paintwork, etc.) - Windows and outside doors (including window panes) must already be fully installed. - The heating system must be functional. - Connections to stairs must be done in agreement with the stair builder - Solid wood parquet flooring is stored with a wood moisture content of approx. 9 %. Wood is a hygroscopic building material whose moisture content adapts to the prevailing air humidity. Excessive absorption of moisture by the parquet causes the wood to swell. Do not lay parquet at an ambient humidity greater than 75 % or a room and material temperature below 14 C. Subsequent loss of moisture during the heating period will cause cracks to form. Solid wood parquet flooring should always be delivered shortly before it is laid. - Newly sealed/oiled floors must not be walked on for 24 hours. The longer the sealed or oiled floor is left untouched during the first few days, the longer the sealing will last. Do not use the floor fully for 8 14 days! During the first few weeks only clean dry and do not lay any carpets. Take care when bringing in furniture and other heavy objects after the floor has been laid. The care procedure should be performed before the first demanding usage. The cleaning and care of your parquet floor must be done using special parquet care products. The recommendations in these laying instructions are based on extensive practical experience. Because of the diversity of conditions prevailing at different construction sites, neither guarantees nor liability claims can be derived from our recommendations. Indoor Climate: The room temperature should not be lower than 15 C during the laying process. The relative humidity should be between 50 and 60 %. Oxydatively oiled surfaces suffer from high humidity. An additional application of wax might diminish that effect. Choice of Adhesive: The choice of adhesive depends on the subfloor, the type of parquet and the type of wood. An overview of glue system recommendations is enclosed, although it is not possible to take account of the type of parquet because of their diversity. For that reason it is essential to discuss this with the parquet manufacturer before laying. The working instructions provided by the glue manufacturer must always be followed exactly! 16

Inspection Obligation Inspection Obligation: The following inspections need to be made right after receiving and before laying the parquet flooring: Transport damage Grading Surface Wood moisture (with carbide meter, e.g. IPS DARR MAX) Dimensional stability General Laying Instructions Subfloor: Careful and proper construction of the subfloor is important for achieving high quality with all types of covering: a) Moisture content High level of moisture content in the subfloor will lead to a damaged wood floor. The moisture content therefore must comply with those given in the Table in every case. If vapour barriers, seals against moisture and/or insulating layers are necessary for a floor structure because of the structural situation, this shall be the responsibility of the client. Types of Base Screeds: Cement screed Cement screed+underfloor heating Anhydrite screed Loose fill materials: e.g. sands lacking in fine particles, granulate, pumice slag, stone chippings, blast furnace slag Subfloors Max. permissible moisture content 2,0 % 1,8 % 0,3 % On inspection at the beginning of the laying work, loose fill materials must appear dry down to the lowest level Must comply with the moisture content of the parquet flooring 1) Measured with carbide meter (CM) 2) A dark colouration can be regarded as a sign of any existing residual moisture 17

General Laying Instructions (2) b) Flatness The base may deviate from perfect flatness by a maximum of 3 mm along a 1.2 m measurement stretch. c) Surface strength of screeds and bare floors Screeds and bare floors to which it is intended to glue a covering floor must not be sanding and must not exhibit any poorly attached layers on their upper surface. d) Shrinkage gaps (dummy joints) and cracks in screeds and raw floors must be properly filled by the client. The dummy joints left in large areas of screed must be filled with polyester, epoxy resin or similar before the floor is laid. Structural expansion joints or dilatation joints regarded as essential by the heating engineer must be taken over in the upper floor level. Minor deviations from the different local recommendations are possible. Basically, lower values are advantageous and therefore to be aimed at. 18

Laying Underfloor Heating Before the laying of the parquet, the screed needs to be dried by a special heating programme. In order to control the process, the person responsible for the laying will receive a heating protocol. On account of the technological and hygroscopic properties of wood it is possible for fine or even small gaps to open up during the heating period. These are normally evenly distributed and must simply be tolerated since they are unavoidable. Maintaining a healthy indoor climate (20-22 C and approx % humidity) during as well as after the laying can counteract the tendency for gaps to form. Moreover, installing humidifiers helps to improve the well-being of the residents and is therefore to be recommended during the heating period. From a technical point of view a wood floor and underfloor heating make a good combination. Wood has a favourable thermal resistance. A certain level of thermal resistance is desirable in order to achieve a uniform surface temperature (not higher than 26 C). However, the thermal resistance should not exceed ca 0.17 m2k/w. Parquet floors are within the ideal range, being mostly between and 0.14 m2k/w. Very important for laying parquet on underfloor heating is a constant surface temperature that must be higher than 26 C at any time. To control this you have to install an instrument for heat measurement (Fidbox)! IMPORTANT: Parquet should always be fully spread glued on underfloor heating! At the beginning of every heating period the floor must be heated up in stages. The equilibrated wood moisture content will be approx. 5 7 % after the heating period. The moisture content at laying should therefore not exceed 7 8 % in order to keep the formation of gaps in the parquet to a minimum. When selecting the wood floor it should be borne in mind that simple wood (vertical annual rings) works less than wood with grain. For this reason the gradings Exquisit, Select and possibly Natur are recommended. 21 Brinell Hardness & Diff. Shrinkage Brinell Hardness: Measure of compression strength measured vertical to the grain. The higher the value, the greater the strength. Differential Shrinkage: Laid parquet blocks have a wood moisture content of 9 12 % in summer and 5 7 % in winter. Calculation: 70 mm European cherry parquet block: summer 11 %, winter 7 % Diff. shrinkage: 0.21 % (see table) Wood moisture content difference between summer and winter = 4% 0,21% of 70 mm = 0,147 mm Total shrinkage summer to winter = 0,147 mm * 4% = 0,59 mm Solid Wood Parquet Brinell Hardness Differential shrinkage per 1% change in wood moisture content Type of Wood In N/mm² Radial % Tangential % Mean % Maple eur ,15 0,30 0,23 Maple can ,20 0,35 0,28 Pear chil Redbeech ,20 0,41 0,31 Oak ,16 0,36 0,26 Ash ,17 0,28 0,22 Cherry amer ,18 0,31 0,25 Nuss amer ,20 0,28 0,24 Acacia 47 0,24 0,35 0,30 Doussie ,19 0,28 0,24 Iroko ,19 0,28 0,24 Merbau ,17 0,27 0,22 Wenge ,22 0,38 0,30 Jatoba 43 0,21 0,31 0,26 Thermoash ,16-0,20 0,25-0,36 0,25 Thermobeech ,18-0,21 0,37-0,43 0,30 Cherry eur. 0,16 0,26 0,21 Walnut eur. 0,17 0,24 0,20 Wenge 0,22 0,38 0,30 2-layer Prefinished parquet Mean % 2-layer Prefinished parquet 0,06 Actus 4.0 Beech, base: plywood 0,12 Actus 4.0 Beech, base: HDFf 0,06 Actus 4.0 Beech, base: spruce 0,05 Actus 4.0 Maple can., base: plywood 0,11 Actus 4.0 Maple can., base: HDF 0,07 Actus 4.0 Maple can., base: spruce 0,04 Actus 4.0 Oak, base: plywood 0,10 Actus 4.0 Oak, base: HDF 0,04 20

GRADING CHARACTERISTICS The quality features are evaluated from a distance of 1.5 m at a normal viewing angle and with normal incident light. In order to allow for unavoidable grading errors 2 % of different classifications are permissible. We would like to point out that the ÖNORM grading scheme does not coincide exactly with our works grading, which mostly sets higher standards. With respect to knots, the works grading partly accepts larger diameters than specified in the ÖNORM. However, since the number of the larger knots is very small we have defined two classifications for these grades. In case of doubt, always use the better grade. IMPORTANT: Greater colour variations are allowed for oiled products. Because wood is a natural material it exhibits great diversity of structure and colour. A sample can therefore never convey the overall impression of a laid area. The only way to evaluate the floor objectively is therefore to use the grade description in ÖNORM or the grading features of our works grading scheme. 27 Data Sheet: STÖCKL Care Oil Colour Usage: STÖCKL CARE OIL COLOUR is primarily used to mend scratches, traces of chairs or other furniture and changes of colour on small areas of parquet surfaces that previously were treated with colour oil. When mixed with the colourless Care Oil, it can be used to brighten up the colours of the coloured parquet floor. Moreover, it can be used to colour skirtings, nosings and strips in the same colour as the floor. Components: Natural and modified vegetable oils and resins, dearomatized Isoaliphates, waxes, matting agents, pigments. Lead-free siccatives, free of terpenes. Usage for mending scratches, etc.: The product needs to be stirred well! The surface needs to be clean, dry and dust-free. Apply with a small brush, cotton ball or cotton bud. Please always try the effect of the oil on a sample or a small, hidden spot on the floor! Check the intensity of the colour. This kind of work requires some knowledge of the materials used and experience in working with them! Apply STÖCKL CARE OIL COLOUR very thinly until the colour matches with its surrounding. Let dry for approx. 12 hours in a well-aired room! If the oil has been applied on a small area, a hairdryer might be used make it dry faster. With skirtings, steps, etc. STÖCKL CARE OIL COLOUR needs to be applied very thinly, then re-paded with a white pad after 20 minutes, in order to achieve an even colour. Let dry for approx. 12 hours. 2-3 days after applying, it is recommended to apply STÖCKL CARE OIL as additional colourless, protective layer. IMPORTANT! : Highly absorbent wood types might require a second layer of STÖCKL CARE OIL COLOUR. 26

STÖCKL Care Oil Colour (2) Usage for walking traces and large area applying: Mix, depending on the desired colour intensity, 1-2 cans of 125 ml STÖCKL CARE OIL COLOUR with a can of 0.75 l STÖCKL CARE OIL. For that purpose, the 0.75 l of care oil have been filled in cans with 1 l capacity, which makes adding the two oils easy. Stir the mixture with a brush. The surface needs to be clean, dry and dust-free. Apply the mixture, depending on the area, with a polishing cloth, a pad or a polishing machine. Please always try the effect of the oil on a sample or a small, hidden spot on the floor! Check the intensity of the colour. This kind of work requires some knowledge of the materials used and experience in working with them! 29 Data Sheet: STÖCKL Maintenance Instructions for Oxidatively Oiled Public Areas General Advice: Door mats in the highly used entrance areas prevent dirt and liquids from damaging the floor. Especially with colour-treated floors, this is an important measure to omit walking traces. Chairs, tables, coat-stands, etc. should be put on sliding mats (felt or teflon). This prevents additional scratches. Ongoing Cleaning: If possible, the floor should be cleaned dry with a vacuum cleaner. If some dirt cannot be removed by dry cleaning, the floor needs to be wiped. To do this, mix warm water and Stöckl Parquet Soap (5 l of water require approx. 50 ml of soap). Wipe up the floor with a wrung-out cotton cloth. For large areas or heavily soiled floors use a second bucket of clear water to rinse of the cloth. Furthermore, you can use Stöckl Intensive Cleaner additionally to the basic cleaner, if the floor is heavily soiled. IMPORTANT! : Do not use too much water for the cleaning, which might lead the floor to quell around its joints! Never use microfibre-cloths on oiled surfaces, since those might sand the surface of the parquet. Brightening up of walking traces, mat areas, etc: Clean the floor as described above and let dry for at least 1 hour in a well-aired surrounding. Apply, depending on the size of the area, with a polishing cloth, handpad or a polishing-machine. Drip or spray STÖCKL CARE OIL on the surface, then spread it thinly with a cloth and, if desired, polish the surface with a white pad. In large areas it is recommended to use a polishing machine. Let dry for approx. 6 to 8 hours in a well-aired surrounding! Consumption: approx m²/1lt In public areas : Stöckl Care Oil, Pump spray bottle, single disc machine, white pad Large rooms, public areas: Brighten the floor by pouring Stöckl Care Oil in a pump spray bottle, then spraying the oil carefully on the floor and spreading it with a single disc machine and a soft, white pad.. 28

STÖCKL Maintenance Instructions for oxidatively oiled public areas (2) Additional Information: Small, striped rubber traces of sneakers, baby carriages, etc. can easily removed by scrubbing them off along the woodgrain with a wet cloth or paper tower and care oil. Wipe off the remaining oil. If the rubber sticks to the floor, let the oil soak in for about 5 minutes until you remove the rubber with a white pad. Wipe off the remaining oil. Drying: 6-8 hours., well-aired! Brightening up Stöckl Colourline Surfaces: Please follow the informations given on the technical Fachtsheet about Colour Oil and try the effect of the oil on a sample or a small, hidden spot on the floor. Important about Care Oils! : Cloths, pads, sponges, etc. that were used with any care oil might catch fire because of oxidatively drying vegetable oils!! Keep in tightly closed tin cans or let dry spread out or flush them out!! 29

Data Sheet: STÖCKL Care Oil Technical Factsheet Usage: STÖCKL CARE OIL should be used to naturally brighten up the surfaces of all kinds of parquet floorings. STÖCKL CARE OIL is the ideal product to treat your oiled Stöckl Parquet with after laying and helps to maintain its oiled surface throughout the years! After applying STÖCKL CARE OIL, the surface will be natural, matt, dirt-resistant and easy treated. Components: Natural and modified vegetable oils and resins, dearomatized Isoaliphates, waxes, matting agents, lead-and-cobalt-free siccatives, free of terpenes Applying for Maintenance and Brightening-up: The surface needs to be clean, dry and dust-free. Apply, depending on the size of the area, with a polishing cloth, handpad or a one-disc-polishing machine. Spray STÖCKL CARE OIL on the surface, then spread it with a cloth and, if desired, polish the area with a white pad. It is recommended to use a polishing machine in large rooms and public areas. Let dry for approx. 6 8 hours in a well-aired surrounding! Consumption: approx.50-70m²/1lt Usage as initial treatment for laid parquet : The surface needs to be dry and dust-free. The sanded surface needs to be even, without scratches or sanding errors. The ideal result with belt sanders is 180 to 240, with one-disc-machines and sanding with granulation 120 or 150, with trio- and quatromachines 100 to 120. It is important that that any deviations are being mended while sanding the edges. 1. Application as basic layer: Apply STÖCKL CARE OIL thickly and evenly with brush or short-bristle-roller or by spraying. Spread the remaining oil after approx minutes with a soft pad or a fluff-free cloth. It is also possible to let the surface dry without spreading the oil with a pad. Instead, the floor needs to be sanded with abrasive paper or a sharp pad. In this case, the drying process might take some more time. Let dry for at least 12 hours in a well-aired surrounding! Consumption: approx.20m²/1lt. 30

STÖCKL Care Oil technical factsheet (2) 2. Application: Apply STÖCKL PFLEGEOIL thinly and evenly with a brush or short-bristle-roller or by spraying. 33 Data Sheet: Fidbox General Information: Wood is a hygroscopic material that reacts to climate change in a room. This means that wood releases moisture in dry rooms and absorbs humidity wherever is a moist climate. This process has a positive effect on the residents of buildings with parquet floors and is one of the major reasons, why many people feel very comfortable in areas with wood floors. However, during this process the moisture content of the wood changes as well, which leads to a change in dimensions or swelling and shrinking of the parquet floor. This, again, might cause joints or cupping. Years of experience have shown that the majority of reclamations where caused by this process. Proving who caused the damage often is hard to reconstruct. By installing a Fidbox, the exact cause of the damage can now be easily established! We advise you to install a Fidbox with a roomsize of 30 m 2 or more or a total parquet floor area of 50 m 2 or more. Specifications: The Fidbox measures the room temperature and relative humidity over a period of 5 years. The measurements are being stored and can be checked via a reading device. The Fidbox does not produce any measurable radiation. 32

Fidbox (2) Installation: - The back of a parquet strip gets milled with a router. - There are tapes on the Fidbox. With those tapes, the Fidbox gets attached to the bare spot on the parquet strip. No additional adhesive must be use, since it might disrupt the faultless measuring. - The parquet strip is laid along with the rest of the parquet. Again, no additional adhesive must be used around the Fidbox. Advantages: - The question about liability can be solved easily and truthfully - Being protected from unjustified liability claims can often be essential. - By measuring longtime climatic circumstances, the room climate and along with that, the well-being of the residents can be improved. - By maintaining an ideal climatic environment, the value of the parquet flooring will be noticeably improved. Reading device 1: Reading device 2: 33

Humidity The essential influence on a healthy room climate Maintaining the right level of humidity in your room is essential for a high-quality room climate. Every year there are millions of euros of damage deriving from low humidity. First signs of dry air might be reactions from our body, such as stinging eyes, difficulties in swallowing, dry skin and painful dryness of nose and mouth. The authority of school doctors in Basel-City measured for nine weeks the humidity in 5 nursery schools: Those nursery schools with air humidification (50 % humidity at approx. 22 C) recorded that, out of 6306 total days at school, at 195 days children had a cold. Other nursery schools that did not have air humidification at their disposal counted, out of total 5910 days, 338 days at which children had a cold. A definite proof of the prophylactic effect of air humidification. Doctors recommend a relative humidity of 40 to 60 percent. At this level, we feel the room to be ideally humidified. Then it also has an ideal effect on our health, on animals and plants in a room, on furniture, instruments and much more. Furthermore, it influences the personal experience of warmth. At a low level of humidity the air needs to be warmed up about 1 2 C to feel as comfortable as in a room with an optimum humidity. This, of course, also saves a lot of energy costs. 34

Humidity (2) Consequences of dry air: Reduced oxygen consumption: Dry air hinders oxygen consumption and oxygen transport to the bloodstream. Nausea, tiredness, fatigue and loss of concentration are common symptoms. Higher risk of catching a cold: The self-cleaning function of the windpipe trough mucous membranes gets notably disturbed. Bacteria in the air might enter through the mucous membranes and cause inflammations. This leads to a higher risk of infections, colds and influenza. Hoarseness: People whose job involves a lot of talking, might feel discomfort in their vocal apparatus. The glottis cannot be closed completely any more. Air that enters because of this can lead to hoarseness. Dry skin: The lack of high humidity increases water loss in the upper corneous layer of our skin. The skin gets dry, rough and flaky. Moreover, the skin tends to get inflammable erythema. Increased dust formation: Dry air leads to increased raising of dust, an effect that gets even worse by the heat of radiators. 35

Avoiding the creation of joints At a room temperature of approx. 22 C and a humidity of 45% - 50% there is a wooden moisture of approx. 9%. This avoids the building of most gaps. Wood Moisture Balance Humidity (3) Sorption equilibrium of wood (all data from Keylwerth and U.S. Product Laboratory, Madison). Example: At 50 % relative humidity and a temperature of 20 C there is an equilibrium moisture (=soprtion equilibrium) of 9%. 36
